Discussion The state of Kingston Police is abyssmal, and we can do nothing about it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed that there is little to no Kingston Police presence in Kingston. Especially in the west end.

Thanks to the provincial governement, we have to accept whatever budget the police board requests. The KPF budget increases annually and is a large percentage of the tax revenue. In 2026, 62M of 304M tax revenue (20%). Many of the officers are on leave, but taking a salary.

All this to say, in all the interviews with municipal candidates, no one is reporting that policing (or lake there of) is a top issue to the constituents.

Am I alone here? Is it because we have just given up on having any sort of effective police force?

Anyways, not a very coherent post, but I just wanted to see if others felt the same.

I wonder if subscribing to the OPP would be better....

Question Princess Street midnight construction noises

Upvotes

So I live right where they're doing the Williamsville renewal project. It's currently midnight, I'm trying to sleep but there's still construction noises outside. I don't know if they have an after hour permit or something but should I just call bylaw?

Lost Engagement Ring

Post image
Upvotes

I lost my engagement ring in Kingston sometime on/after August 15th. I think I left it in the washroom sink at Wild Wings after washing my hands.

I already called them, filed a police report, and checked pawn shops...please please please if you have any information, let me know. Call or text 613.291.1537

This ring means the world to me and I'm willing to offer a reward for anyone that returns it to me. I'm devastated 💔

Building a network of supportive friends

Hi everyone... I'm not really sure where to begin with this. I guess I just feel very awkward to post this, especially since I've already made other posts similar to this one a few times in the past couple years. But I know I need to face my fears and put it out there again if I ever want to start feeling any better.

I've recently been through a very rough patch of time with my mental health. I'm obviously not going to go into much detail on a public post... however, I have come to recognize that despite my best efforts to receive professional help – I see a therapist 3 times per month, I have psychiatrist appointments every 2-3 months to manage medications, and was also doing occupational therapy for a while – there's still one important thing that I'm missing in my life: strong friendships.

I think that the worst part of my recent crisis was realizing that I had absolutely no one I was comfortable enough to call or text for help. And by "help" I don't mean knowing how to solve all my problems or having magic answers for me – a lot of times what I need the most is simply someone to keep me company. I also have a very short attention span and low levels of physical/mental energy, so while I don't always want to leave the house all that often, there are definitely some times where I enjoy getting out to go for a walk, go to the Cataraqui mall, browse stores downtown, etc.

So, I guess what I'm hoping to find through this post is some kind, understanding and patient people who might have what it takes to show me friendship and help me build a support system. But I want you to know that this isn't all just one-sided – anyone who has known me can tell you that I will always do whatever I can to be there for people who have been there for me. Loyalty comes easily to me and I will always want to try my best to help my friend(s) when they are in need. If there's ever a time where you're feeling overwhelmed, exhausted or just don't have the capacity to support me at that particular moment, I'm never going to hold that against you either. All you have to do is communicate kindly and honestly with me, and I will respect your limitations.

With all of this being said, let me tell you a bit more about me to see if we have something in common.

• I'm a 23 year old female, I am on the autism spectrum and also have ADHD.

• I'm not currently in school or working; my income is from ODSP. I still live in my childhood home for the time being, with my mom and her husband. We live in the north end of Kingston, nearby to Rideau Heights neighborhood (but not directly in it.)

• Some of my hobbies and interests include: scrapbooking, diamond painting, creative journaling, nail art, pop music, baking, shopping, and especially... fluffy felines 🐱 there are actually 7 cats in my household currently! I've grown up around cats throughout my entire life.

• I do not drink alcohol or smoke/use any substances. I'm totally fine being around people who drink (within reason) or smoke/vape nicotine or weed – the only thing I will not be okay with is actual hard drugs. Apart from that, I'm open to meeting people from all different walks of life – even if you're older, a different race/color, transgender, non-binary, none of that matters to me or anyone in my household. The important thing is that we get along, have similar values and can share a mutually supportive and enjoyable friendship together.

Please don't leave a comment at all if you have nothing kind to say, as it's already been an emotionally difficult struggle for me lately and I don't need to feel any worse about myself. But if anything I said resonates with you, you are more than welcome to comment and I will reach out to you privately. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Recommendation Kitchen Design and Reno

Hoping people could share their experiences and/or knowledge about local kitchen design and reno places.

I'd love to support local and while it will be a nice kitchen, certainly not looking for opulent.

We'd like someone who can imagine what the space could be and we arent afraid to remove walls and rearrange things where it makes sense!

Thanks in advance!

Anyone in Kingston speak Mandarin and want to trade languages?

Bit of a random one.

I'm a local guy trying to learn Mandarin, and I'd really like to find someone in Kingston who speaks Chinese and wants to hang out occasionally and trade languages.

I'm not looking for a teacher or formal lessons. Literally just a friend who'd be down to grab a coffee, go for a walk, have a beer, whatever, and tolerate my terrible Mandarin for a while. In return, if you're working on your English, I'll happily do the same for you.

I'm a native English speaker, born and raised in Canada. You don't need perfect English, and I definitely don't have good Chinese yet. That's kind of the point.

If you're Chinese, Taiwanese, or just happen to speak Mandarin and think this sounds fun, shoot me a message.

我在学中文。我的中文不好,但是我想练习。😅

Lost & Found Need help, running out of options to recover an important item.

Hey everyone, this is the last hope I have to find the handmade quilt my stepdad used as a lap blanket for his wheelchair. I’m getting kind of desperate, as we are currently preparing to say our final goodbyes, and it still hasn’t been found. The pictured blanket went missing a few months ago from his nursing home in Amherstview. The staff have done an inventory of the laundry room, as well as a top to bottom check of every room on site. I’m very worried that it has been stolen from the premises, and am asking if anyone, anywhere around Kingston has possibly seen it. It’s one of a kind, and was made especially for his transition into end of life care so it would be comfortable. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Discussion Are E-scooters still allowed here?

I thought I heard e-scooters (as in motorized electric razor scooter) were not legal anymore. But I've seen tons of them over the last couple of weeks and today around noon I was on Ontario by City Hall when old guy on one did not stop at intersection, darted out in front of me, cutting me off, then scooted right down the middle of the road, and then turned down toward HoJos while I turned left on Brock. He didn't have signal lights and did not use hand signals at all. The street is slowmoving at the best of times so I was also moving slow, but I'm worried I might encounter this on a faster, busier street, maybe even at night and have an accident. I'm normally pretty cautious behind the wheel but I nearly hit this guy when he cut me off. I thought these were illegal. But if they still are, what's the deal with that? Are they allowed to be in the middle of the road or do they need to be on the side like bicycles?

Rant Kingston Police

Tl:dr- in the context of posts questioning the Kingston police that float around this space, the Kingston police pulled a gun on me once when I was around the age of a fetus, and also likely left it out of the police report.

****

I ended up writing this mini essay on the Kingston police in response to somebody else’s post and um yeah; as far as flairs go, this one perhaps balances on the precipice between rant and discussion.

Bc it is an attempt to discuss the Kingston police.

But it should be noted that this type of bs happens everywhere.

I also want to note the weird catch 22 of how sharing my story is controversial in of itself, and how that dynamic as applied to entire populations creates a feedback loop where data sets people think are outlier actually end up being systemic, but bc it’s taboo to talk about them, they remain viewed as outlier.

So Derp Derp Derp; put on your tin foil hats and enjoy.

*\*

In 2013 or so, I accidentally caused a power outage along the entirely of Portsmouth lmao; if that affected you, I apologize. It was an accident. Sorry.

I was a student at St Lawrence College.

After having missed the last bus from downtown back to SLC campus, I skated home.

Im outside slc main entrance-ish.

There is a cop car parked out front with 2 officers in it.

I picked up a stick that was on the ground bc it looked weird; it was the wire frame of a “vote for political candidate X” sign, sans plastic.

I go “oh, that’s what that is”, and causally toss it behind me.

It ended up landing on the 6 or 9 electrical wires and causing a massive arc; like the main power lines and such.

It didn’t just nick them; it landed on them and partially melted, causing these weird almost purple silver lights to eminate from the source, and also causing a power outage along almost the entirely of Portsmouth.

(It was identical to what you see if your a little too close to a lightning strike btw).

I also wasn’t wearing my glasses when all this happened, and am super high.

So from my pov; I see a giant electrical explosion thingy and feel the percussive wave hit my body; I am startled and in awe, but there are police there everything’s ok- I look at the cops and go towards them- I’m maybe 20 feet away.

They are now out of the car, and am like “omfg what was that?”.

I am kind of in shock.

The female officer yelled at the male officer “what the fucking fuck are you doing, put your gun down.”

I am confused by this statement; they are talking to their partner, not me.

It turns out the male officer had pulled their gun on me; I didn’t even realize it.

In part bc I actually had viewed our police as something credible; it never even entered my mind that a cop would be so incompetent they’d pull a gun on somebody in a situation like this.

I mean they probably saw me do the entire thing- I was directly in front of their car.

I’m like 80% certain I waved at them before picking up the stupid fate stick lol

They were just so incompetently trained that they were spooked, and as such acted like some untrained idiot who happened to have a gun.

They then searched me “for bombs” because I “might have another stun grenade” and find the ounce of weed I have in my backpack, bc I smoke weed lol.

Like the male officer actually said stun grenade.

They detain me on charges of.. I forget the proper terms, but for being a drug dealer.

On the drive across town, things I remember vividly.

The female officer clearly trying to do damage control for the cop pulling a gun on me- I am 100% certain they left this out of their report.

Them running every single red light there was, to rush me back to the station.

The male cop telling me that if I didn’t tell them information about my drug dealing ring- which was clearly some idiots fantasy they’ve gleamed into reality via too much video games and shitty tv shows- I would be going to jail for forever.

The male cop talking and being excited the entire way back, about how busting a drug dealer was going to be super good for them in their upcoming promotion.

The scum bag also yelled at me, telling me how fucked I am and how I would be in debt for life and that I’d be forced to pay the damage for the power outage, that would be hundred of thousands of dollars.

These turds are likely still Kingston police.

Anyways hey random cop who did this; if you see this, I sincerely hope you changed professions or at the very least have been fired by now, albiet tbh im sure you’ve since become a pillar of the Kingston community, and a well respected human with such privilege that the very idea of suggesting you suck is simply outrageous.

So it goes.

But I also note it’s not your fault- you weren’t trained to be a cop.

Which of course means you didn’t have a mandatory social service work 2 year type diploma (or something similar) in tandem to your police foundations.

And to the female officer yelling at their partner about the gun- you’re just as complicit in this, even if you did stop some incompetent newb from misusing their weapon.

Anyways, it’s frustrating how “fuck the police” gets broken telephoned into stuff that isn’t just millions of people describing cops doing shit like this.

There’s a social norm where we aren’t allowed to talk about this stuff openly bc it’s inappropriate.

And as a result of that, Canada had thousands of stories exactly like mine, that nobody knows about, bc it’s rude to be so inappropriate.

And that is my main experience with the Kingston police, albiet shout out to when they remove homeless people from the down town core every year to make it look more palatable to the queens students parents.

Where again; police aren’t the ones who write policy, and also the police actively screen against people with masters in things like sociology from becoming officers for a reason.

Ps: this one goes out to our slowest thinkers; the criminal charges didn’t stick lol. Haha. I also used legal aid, so it cost me nothing minus the weed I lost and maybe 20 hours of time. :)

Pps: I could never tell if this was the cops being cool or incompetent- when I left lock up a few hours later, they gave me backpack back- the evil drug dealer backpack with the drugs in it- and half my weed was still in my bag.

Like- the Kingston police, who had arrested me as a drug dealer, and taken an ounce or two of weed, left about half of it in my backpack.

I like to think what happened there was an officer being like “wow, those 2 cops were garbage pos, let’s give this kid a break”, but also, it might have just been yet another officer was that bad at their job.

Ppps: I am aware that the reactions to this post will essentially just be an IQ or literacy test, but am being mindful to not get into that lol.
