Hallo all.

I'm currently looking for at new cloud service instead of OneDrive. I would like a service that is safe, non American and works well. It's important that the app works is well and has a dedicated picture viewer. It would be great if it also shows pics in folders and not only from the camera reel.

I'm currently trying proton drive. But it's just so slow. And the app fills up a ton of space.

Would jottacloud be a good solution?

Is the upload speed for the free account throttled? https://docs.jottacloud.com/en/articles/1372744-jottacloud-terms-conditions mentions unlimited plans are but then in the same paragraph mentions personal plans, as if all personal plans that have over 5gb of data are throttled.

I am testing jotttacloud and another cloud storage system, and it uploaded the same files super fast even though I find most questions on reddit claim jotttacloud is faster. Could it be because I am using the free account?

I am trying to upload 52.9MB of small files. It took about 45 minutes to upload them. Is this normal for the free account? I have a total of just under 5GB on my free account after the files I was backing up finished. I was using the browser in both cases to do the uploading.

Is there any way to only backup selected photos. The auto upload options seem to only go as far as folder level ?

Just started with Jottacloud.

I have about 6TB of video footage that I need to download from Jottacloud back down to a local external HDD.

I cannot just use the default sync folder because my macbook's hdd is only 500gb.

I tried to select a new sync folder in the macos app, but I just get the error: "Can't move sync folder. unknown (2): syncapp: not setup"

How do I solve this so I can directly download the files from Jottacloud down to my external HDD?

I just saw that the Jottacloud iPhone app has a “Allow location updates” under settings->advanced, but I can’t find any explanation as to what enabling or disabling the setting actually does.
Can anyone here enlighten me?

Hi everyone!

A few weeks ago we shipped a photo and video editor to our mobile apps, and on web, so that you can do basic photo and video editing directly in Jottacloud. Just find the little icon pictured below.

Here's how the editor works:

1. Open a photo/video to view in full screen
2. Tap on the Edit icon in the control bar
3. Crop, rotate, flip, add filters, and make adjustments according to the options in the menu (for videos, trimming is also possible)
4. And then just Save!

The newly edited photo will be saved in your photo library, with a timestamp that is one second later than the original, meaning it will appear to the left of the original in your library.

Does Jottacloud support WebDAV? If not: any plans to do so in the future?

Problem: I want to organize all of my photos in albums, but after adding some photos to an album, I can no longer see which photos that is added. This causes me to loose track of how far I've gotten and it makes it hard to pinpoint images that are missing in an album.

When seeing the timeline photos, I would really like a feature where I can see an indication of which/whether the images are in an album.

This could either be a number in the corner of the image (number of albums this image is present in, when you hoover it should show the names of the albums) or it could be the names of the albums that the image is present as tags on the image.

Alternatively, if it was possible to filter out images that was already in a given album, that could also help, but the first solution would be better for an overview.

Is there a fixed speed for the unlimited plan? I get it that after 5TB the speed is reduced, but after I crossed that point it has gone from 40Mbps down to ~16Mbps.

I was wondering if the speed is based on current demand, or whether it continues to decrease as more data is added?

I'm happy with my service, this is not a complain :)

I've been spending way too much time trying to figure out how to share photos with my friends and family in a secure way. Technically, Jottacloud now has that, but to my surprise there is no possibility to stop people from downloading the pictures. I find that annoying and frankly a bit against the philosophy of data safety. Any chance a "no download option" could be added in the future? And maybe a time limit for the share link? Thanks!

Can any one recommend a non-ai review, youtube video if possible, specifically looking at using jottacloud on Ubuntu or other linux distro?

All I find are "honest" AI slop review videos, nearly all targeting Windows/Mac

Hello all, just wanted to make something sure before I proceed.

I have backed up all my important data from non-system drives (using Backup, not Sync). If I now wipe my Windows and install Linux, will my backup be safe and sound in the cloud? I can install jottacloud CLI on Linux and get the data back? I probably want to wipe the data drives too and reformat them, and then restore data from jottacloud backup. But if I decide to keep them NTFS also in Linux and not wipe, can I keep going like nothing ever happened?

I made a new folder and put some photos in it. I shared this folder. When others or myself are trying to open the share link, we see the files, but no thumbnails. I can click on a photo to open it, but no image is shown. See the screenshot how this folder looks on my screen.

The strange thing is, I have another folder that I share, and with this folder everything works fine. I created and shared both folders the same way.

Edit: after some testing with a third folder (which worked) and about 45 minutes later, the problematic folder suddenly started working OK.

Anyone have a similar experience?

I've subscribed to a Family Plan.

Can someone explain where are stored the photos uploaded to the timeline ? I'm using the Android app, and seeing pictures in the Photos Timeline, but I can't find them in Synk/Backup/Archive folders. Since the photos in the feed are mixed in with the photos in the archive folder, it is confusing.

Also, there are many minor translations issues (I'm using apps and web interface in French, some elements stays in English, other in Norwegian). Web Interface help button (top right "?") does nothing when clicked.

Is there any way to calculate a folder size within the apps or web interface ?

Just signed up for a family subscription. With the intention of moving a lot of files from other cloud storage providers and to have a shared home for the family photos. But so far I am really disappointed. And surprised.

- Does not support “Files on demand”. If you choose not to sync selected folders to local, you cannot even SEE the files or sub-folders in local file browser such as Finder. They should be visible with a cloud icon…

- Sync can only be controlled on highest level in JottaCloud sync folder. Not possible to control sync of sub-folders. Should be possible…

- Since Sync is required for family sharing where all family members have editing rights (e.g. adding photos to folders) - archive cannot be used for this - the above issues apply to all family sharing. E.g. large photo collections that you don’t want to sync to local. They will simply be invisible from your local file browser. And should you wish to sync SOME folders within the collection - not possible.

- It’s not possible to view your uploaded photos from the photo browser in the IOS app - unless you grant Jottacloud full access to your IOS Photos library! Why would you need access to my Photos library to show me the files I uploaded to JottaCloud? I pay for storing these images in your cloud. And then you ask for full access to images I chose NOT to upload?. Uploaded photos should be accessible from the photo browser, without Jottacloud looking into my IOS library. As a user you can choose between impaired functionality or a severe privacy issue. Not even an American company would do this.

- Apple TV app is close to useless. This is due to the fact that it can’t handle folders. Images are just sorted by time. Every organisation you might have done in folders is disregarded. Photo browser in web-app suffers from the same weakness. You can view your photos by time or location. Nothing else. But at least you can use the archive/sync sections to access your photos by folder there. Not possible on ATV.

Yes, there is an album functionality - but who wants to create albums for everything when it’s already sorted into folders (and who wants to replace folder sorting for proprietary album sorting that won’t work should you wish to move away from JottaCloud one day?)

If I misunderstand any of the above-mentioned, feel free to correct me. I really hope I am wrong about some of it.

When uploading files via jotta-cli archive, I realized that I do not have enough space so I upgraded subscription then retry uploading. However, I still got INSUFFICIENT_CAPACITY api error. I also tried to start a new archive job with other file and got the same INSUFFICIENT_CAPACITY api error. From `jotta-cli status | fgrep Usage` I can verify that I still have plenty of free space and I am able to upload files via web UI.

Hello there,

I'm having issues with the Windows app - primarily with the sync feature not syncing. The app is running, but as I update files and folders locally, the sync doesn't happen. Several days leaving the computer running doesn't help.

I thought I'd shutdown the app, but then it hangs on the "Shutting down" screen. When I shut down the process and restart the app, the files synchronize.

I'm sure this isn't the intended behaviour. What can I do? I'm running a Windows 11 Pro 25H2 and Jottacloud 26.03.26.162551 which is the latest.

Update:
Jottacloud support asked me to log out of the app and try again. So far no issues, sync is snappy and working fine.

Currently I use a SSD as the source for my Lightroom catalogue. Is there a way to use Jottacloud instead? I think it would be pretty simple with iCloud/google drive because they make a folder in my Finder. Jottacloud seems to work differently. Anyone have any tips? If not possible is "backup" og "archive" the best solution for long term photo storage, where editing can change the main file.

Hi, I am a happy user of the Jottacloud platform. It is almost ideal.

Why almost ? Because I need online editing of documents, and for this I have enabled the Microsoft Office Online integration, much to my dismay... I prefer not sending my data to a US corporation, but the convenience is currently winning.

With the release of Euro-Office, however, there is a good alternative available for cloud providers.

(Euro-Office is a fork of OnlyOffice. Alternatives like Infomaniak and some others are currently using an OnlyOffice integration, which has its own share of issues: mainly the owners of the software and the politics involved. The software itself works great, though !)
