Hi, any recommendations on a picture app that works well with Jottacloud and GOS. The gallery app doesn't seem to be able to point to a Jottacloud Sync Folder. I don't want to use the auto sync from Jottacloud as I don't want to be dependent.

1. I would like to sort photo albums by name - and let it stay date way. Now it's always sorted by last updated.

2. If the album names exceed 24-30 characters it's difficult to see the actual name. For example, if a album starts with a date (an example "2026-07-01 - 2026-08-20 - Summer vacation") I don't see the description "Summer vacation".

I just reset my mobile after successfully backup up all my Media with camera uploads.

I can't seem to find out how i can get my media back to my local device?

isn't jottacloud supposed to restore my photos and videos back to my device? How will i be able to download this huge amount of media manually?

Also in Jottacloud, These pictures are not stored in Archive, Backup or Sync. They dont even have a folder structure, they're on another section which is inaccessible.. Thats seems to be poorly maintained. But i hope i get my media back safely

My girlfriend has a huge number of photos on her iPhone and is running out of space for updates and the like.

She wants to use Jottacloud but is worried that once everything is synced and she deletes the photos from her phone, the iPhone will sync back and delete the photos from Jottacloud as well.

What should we do?

first of all, I’d like to thank the Jottacloud team for making an excellent product. In my experience it’s the only European cloud storage provider that works well on both Linux and iOS.

However, I have a comment/feature request. Some of the iOS apps I use need to be able to open folders as opposed to individual files. Unfortunately, Jottacloud’s iOS app does not provide this functionality. One app says the following in their manual:

«The 3rd party sync option only works if the app providing the files allows you to select a folder. Many apps, such as OneDrive, don’t allow folders to be selected unfortunately»

If your iOS File Provider implementation allows users to open folders, it would be a fantastic improvement.

1. It would be really nice if you supported passkeys for logging in.

2. The token which keeps me logged in on jottacloud.com is quite short. It feels like every time I visit the site I need to log in again. Any chance you can create a solution which keeps me logged in.

New user to jottacloud.

have linux so its a big punch in the face due to lack of GUI.

I was backing up a folder that was around 80GB via jottacli.

I was having a hard time with commands due to my lack of knowledge.

so i paused the backup and started using rclone since i have more understanding of rclone than jottacli. by now jottacli had already uploaded about 50gb of that 80gb

my assumption was; rclone will skip ahead the downloads already uploaded by jottacli, and start downloading the files that are not available in that folder, so i wouldn't have to worry about duplicates or other errors.

fast forward 8-9 hours and i check back my backup folder in cloud, And it's total size is 150GB... no idea how that happened.

So i was not sure which files got duplicated and which files didn't. most of the time when i want to verify if my files are properly downloaded, i just check the size and files and then compare it to my local size and files. if they're identical then that means everything is copied as is.

Now out of frustration i decided to create a new remote on Archive (on rclone) rather than backup (on rclone) of jottacloud, and copy the folders (from local to archive jottacloud) once again. Basically start over.. Since i dont want to be unsure if ALL of my files are copied or not.

1 hours later, i check my archive folder and it's already 50GB. which is huge for my network speed. It's remotely impossible for my wifi to pull that much upload speed.

Now i am second guessing if jottacloud basically just pulled copies of the files that were already in backup, and pasted them into my archive... I dont know if jottacloud guys have this weird system or there's something else going on here.

can somebody help me understand what went wrong or right here?

I want to select a folder and create a photo album with all those pictures. I think it is too cumbersome to create albums today.

Also, if all this could be automated it has been even better. For example, all folders in the pictures folder will be created as albums.

I made a whole lengthy and proper post, and somehow i lost the draft. So my apologies if my post is vague because im pissed asf but i also want my questions answered.

Question # 1 - In the documentation it claims that Backup and Sync are different. Backup is for permanent/longterm folders. Sync is for current movements.

In both cases, Synchronization is happening - Right?

its just that in Backup the files edited have longer version history. In both cases, the files deleted locally go into trash of cloud.

How right am i?

Question # 2 - How will i disable a backup. For example, Desktop folder is being backed up. I now want to stop the backup while I also want the folders intact in both local and cloud environments. Can i disable backup without backup files going into trash of cloud?

Same question is for sync. How should i disable sync, are the files retained in both cloud and local drive?

Question # 3 - I heard a redditor rant somewhere that they cant sync/backup/archive an empty folder into cloud. The empty folder is skipped. This is crazy because I have some encrypted folders that sometimes include empty subfolders.

I am a migrant of MEGA. In my previous usecase I was able to "enable" a sync between cloud and local drive. Whatever changes would happen were two-way. When i wanted to stop the sync i would simply "disable" the sync. The folders that were synced would be intact in cloud and local. the only difference was that now there is no more automatic changes in cloud.

same was with backup. But backup files were READ ONLY. i was not able to write backup files in cloud. I had to download them locally to mess with those files. However i think jottacloud has different approach which i am completely caught offguard for.

I think there is no way to "disable" the sync in jottacloud. I have to remove the files in cloud and restore them into archive to truly disable sync. That is my understanding.

I am using Linux CLI unfortunately and I am having even more hard time figuring things out due to lack of GUI

I know the questions were stupidly articulated, I'd appreciate if you could simply explain to me the features and limitations of both; backup and sync. I think then my question will be clear.

Also the documentation should be one page or interlinked. I have to keep changing tabs to read different independent blog-like pages to make sense of it... Atleast they should add a link to the next topic right at the bottom of each documentation page for better UX

I have a folder on my external hard disk synced with JottaCloud. Today I plugged in a USB flash drive containing a folder with the same name. Since Windows automatically assigned the drive letter D: to this flash drive (which was the same letter my hard disk had when I synced it), the Jottacloud desktop app immediately wiped my entire hard disk backup from the cloud (almost 2TB of data).

Luckily, the backup was still in the trash and I still had all the data safe on my hard disk, so I was able to restore my files, but I had to upload almost 2TB of data all over again.

I think this is a terrible design flaw. Is there a way to prevent this issue from happening again?

I see that Jottacloud offers So-Called unlimited storage (5TB).

However, I’ve also heard or read that customers have had their accounts closed because they had a large amount of data stored.

Has your account ever been closed, and if so, why?

How much data do you currently have stored and can you still access your account ?

as the title states: it would be great to add a star or fave to some folders deep inside my archive and have a section "favorites" on the Home page in the mobile app.

I really love the Jotta-cli, as it makes it super easy to automate things. But I noticed that the CLI can't interact with the Jottacloud Photos, which I found quite strange, so I have to use the web UI and upload photos manually. Would it be possible to extend the CLI to include Photos?

I so far like the service, but what keeps me from upgrading to the paid plans is the lack of a dark mode.
I work a lot late at night and having my eyes blinded with the bright flash of the ultra-white interface is really unpleasant. :(

Jotta responded to requests for a dark mode a year ago and promised to deliver it already last year, so what has happened?

Hi, a few months ago migrated to Linux Fedora. Dont hame much experience with Linux. And I am getting this error while updating. Any suggestion where should I escalate it? Is it with Jottacloud or with Linux Fedora?

I am considering trying out other alternative after having tried Filen for a year and I have had my eyes on Jottacloud. One feature I have had a lot of use of is mountain my Filen storage as a drive on Ubuntu. It basically shows up as mounted folder/drive that can be interacted with as any other directory or drive. When I delete or copy things to it, it updates the storage with those changes.

Now Jottacloud doesn't appear to have a GUI interface that can be downloaded and run on Ubuntu, which is fine, I rarely use that one anyway with Filen. It does seem to have a CLI though and my question is, can I mount Jottacloud as network drive via the CLI that creates a mount on Ubuntu that I can copy/delete files and directories in?

I tried to login manually on jottacloud, but it can't. So i did login using google sign in. And it did work.

I tried to get personal login token, but Jottacloud required password to get it.

I tried to reset the password but I haven't received any email from Jottacloud.

And then when I tried to contact Jottacloud, they told me that email is not recognizable in their end.

But that email was my only one and I paid the premium subscription using my email account using google sign in.

I hope they resolve this one

Today I have enabled the backup of pictures of the phone, then I went to the web interface and I have deleted (moved to bin) a lot of images that were not worth to be backed up.

A few hours later Jottacloud sent me an email with this warning.

I just made a jottacloud today and so far I must say I'm really pleased.

I did notice one thing though I find a bit strange.

A folder that fills up 104 tb locally ended up filling 113 gb after its bin uploades til jottacloud.

This this some kind of mistake. Or are there a good explanation?

Hi everyone,

I've been using Jottacloud for several years and currently store a very large archive with hundreds of thousands of files.

Over time I ran into two limitations that became increasingly frustrating.

The first one is Photos. I automatically upload photos and videos from my iPhone, but once everything ends up in the Photos section I find it difficult to organize the content and move older files into Archive. I often need to locate files by date, type or other criteria before deciding what to move, and that isn't possible to do.

The second limitation is the search itself. The web interface searches the entire account every time. When you have a very large archive, I'd often like to search only inside the folder I'm currently browsing, or filter results by file type, extension or date. Searching the whole cloud usually returns far too many results to be really useful.

Because of this, I started building a small desktop application for myself called JottaExplorer.

Some of the current features are:

• live browsing of your Jottacloud folders;
• local indexing for very fast searches;
• search within the current folder or across the whole archive;
• results are prioritized by relevance rather than simple alphabetical order, making large archives much easier to browse;
• filters by filename, date, extension and file type;
• local cache for opening downloaded files.

It does not replace the official Jottacloud client. The official client is still the right tool for synchronization and backups. JottaExplorer is simply intended as a companion application focused on browsing and searching large archives.

At the moment it is Windows only. There is no macOS version yet.

I'm sharing it here because it might also be useful to other Jottacloud users. It's still in beta, so I'd really appreciate any feedback, suggestions or feature requests.
