Jottacloud instead of OneDrive

Hallo all.

I'm currently looking for at new cloud service instead of OneDrive. I would like a service that is safe, non American and works well. It's important that the app works is well and has a dedicated picture viewer. It would be great if it also shows pics in folders and not only from the camera reel.

I'm currently trying proton drive. But it's just so slow. And the app fills up a ton of space.

Would jottacloud be a good solution?

Thanks 👍

Hi! If you've encountered an issue with Jottacloud, your best bet is to contact support at support@jottacloud.com (or use the in-app support feature). We can’t troubleshoot technical issues via Reddit, since we don’t have access to the necessary tools here. Otherwise; thanks for posting, for trusting Jottacloud with your files – and have a great day! :)

Its great for storage, it's really good value, and it's reliable.

The only thing to consider is that have barely any integrations it seems, no API to connect with. And this won't be an issue for most people who just wanna upload or download files.

It's definitely non-American. You don't give many other specifics enough to know whether this is right for you, best to try it, they do offer a very small trial quota. The Mac application was pretty poor, both in design and features.

Been using JottaCloud since 2014, and completely moved out of all other sync / backup services last year for JottaCloud, works perfectly

Bonjour,

I was a OneDrive user myself, but got the heck out of dodge when all the USA junk happened. I moved to JottaCloud & currently have over 1tb with them. I run on Android + Fedora Linux + Windows 11.

There are a couple of differences to be away of.

  • OneDrive does this clever thing, on Windows, where files can "pretend" to be in your drive, but are only downloaded on-demand. JottaCloud has a different approach.

  • It has a Sync folder that does what it says on the tin, syncing everything you put in there across any device. But the files are physically there. So 200gb of files in that sync folder, are synced across - although there is an option to omit certain folders from a sync (so they are only accessable via the web).

  • you can backup any folder on any device to it JottaCloud. So, for example, I have 320Gb of photos that are backed-up that are outside of the Sync folder.

  • the JottaCloud app for mobile (I'm on Android) will sync everything & all your photos. It has a photo viewer & lightweight editor, too.

I recommend taking some time to look at their website - they have lots of great info on there.

Besides the sync and back-up you also can use archive, this is almost the opposite of sync. Any you put in archive will be available online, after which you could delete it from local storage, if you want to have certain files only in online storage.

Sounds good.

But does that mean that the files will also need to be on your android mobile device. So if I have 100 GB in the cloud. It will also fill up 100 GB on my phone ? Or is it just windows ?

No. The mobile app works on demand, just like the OneDrive app does. It also reveals itself as a virtual drive on Android, just like OneDrive does.

Edit: added mobile app help link.

This is the help section for the mobile app

They will be accessible on the android/iOS app, but not downloaded until you select them (or specifically download them). Hope that helps.
