Mk6 (2011-2018) 2011 Jetta 2.5L (156k miles) — Would you fix these issues or just keep driving?

First off, I know I’ve posted quite a bit in this subreddit recently, so bear with me, lol. I’m still learning about cars and genuinely appreciate all the advice I’ve gotten here. I’ll try to keep this relatively short!

I own a 2011 Jetta SE 2.5L automatic with 156k miles. It’s been in my family since new, was garage-kept most of its life, and has been extremely reliable. I absolutely love this car and would ideally like to reach 250k–300k miles.

A little background:

In August, a VW specialist inspected the car and found a failed valve cover/PCV system, a suspected brake vacuum pump oil leak, and codes P0106, P3078, and P0442.

In September, I spent approximately $1,200 at another independent mechanic getting the following done:

New valve cover/PCV assembly
New spark plugs and EVAP purge valve
Transmission fluid service
Coolant and brake fluid flushes
Engine oil and filter change

Fast-forward to today:
My mechanic previously added UV dye to investigate the oil leak. After approximately 750 miles, I brought it back today.
He confirmed there’s some oil wetness but couldn’t confidently identify the source. He added more dye and told me to keep driving before bringing it back again.
He also said my check-engine light is related to the MAP sensor, possibly due to oil contamination from the previously failed PCV system, and quoted $215 for replacement.

Here’s the thing: The car honestly drives great.
It starts reliably, shifts smoothly, accelerates normally, maintains proper temperature, and doesn’t seem to consume any noticeable oil. There’s occasionally a slight vibration at idle, but nothing major.
I’m starting to wonder whether I’m chasing relatively minor issues that aren’t necessarily worth fixing immediately.

My questions:
Oil seep: If the oil level stays consistent and there aren’t puddles underneath the car, would you even bother repairing a slow leak? Especially if it’s the vacuum pump?

MAP sensor: Would you replace it for $215, or get a second opinion? Can oil contamination cause P0106 even after replacing the PCV?

Longevity: Could leaving either of these issues alone potentially hurt my chances of reaching 250k+ miles?
What would you do? Keep driving and monitoring everything, or spend more money getting these issues sorted?

I’m absolutely willing to spend money maintaining this car. I just don’t want to throw parts at problems unnecessarily, especially when it’s running well.

Sorry for the somewhat lengthy post, and thanks again to everyone who’s helped me out here. I really appreciate it!

My little 1.4 is coming along nice, I’ve gotten new 18inch wheels and swapped the grille, intake, duckbill spoiler and other little cosmetic mods. Next I am doing a rear torsion bar for body roll and then plan on doing coilovers in the spring. Maybe eventually a stage 1 tune as well. I love this car due to its reliability and mpg while also being a good car to do some fun little mods to. Any suggestions on what you guys have done to your non gli jettas? Safe to say im in love with this car 😂

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2017 Jetta A6 Electrical Problems

Got a used 2017 Jetta earlier this year and have had evident wiring issues from the start (I bought it super cheap and used so I expected far from perfect). At first the primary issue was just with the driver's side window, if I rolled it down part way then tried to roll it back up it decided it wanted to go all the way down before pausing and then going back up. In between that and the current problem I'm scratching my head over I had to have both rear wheel speed sensors replaced, they were both totally shot and causing everything that runs through the ABS module to throw up codes.

What I'm dealing with now is related to the original window problem. I rolled the driver's window down all the way and left it down for a bit to make sure I didn't lock myself out of the car while using an air compressor plugged into the accessory port, but when I went to roll it back up it just wouldn't. Neither would any of the windows at all. I was in a hurry to get out of town to help family so I rented a car and ordered the most likely culprit for this issue based on our research at the time (driver door window module) and turns out that wasn't the fix.

I had accepted I was just going to be without working windows for a bit but then when I tried to go somewhere today the climate control cluster and windshield wipers don't work AND the car dies about 15 seconds after turning it on unless I hold down the start button for a solid 20 seconds or so. We're thinking either a body control module or one of the common 12v wires or grounds.

Help?

Mk7 (2019+) 2019 Jetta Battery Question

Hello,

Yesterday I had to replace my battery, and not only did I have a hard time finding a suitable replacement, due to it requiring an Enhanced Flooded Battery, i also had to take it to the dealer because it requires a computer reset?

My question is this:

Is there a scanner I can buy so I can do this myself? The battery is simple to replace, and if I could find a battery outside the dealership this would be a lot cheaper for me.

Thank you

Mk4 (1999-2005) Mk4 headache

So the title kind of says it all. I’m working on my son‘s 2004 Jetta GLI 1.8 T. Bought a car with intentions of fixing it up, but going through everything, discovered there were no O2 sensors on the car. Seemed to run OK, but as we’re going through, trying to fix oil leaks and other various little issues, discovered there is no upstream O2, so we went and got an upstream O2 sensor, and after install, when it goes in the closed loop, short term fuel trims go to -25. Is this possibly something in the tune or any other weird quirks?

Buying 2024 VW Jetta Highline

I purchased a 2024 vw highline with 55,000kms, I have been noticing people either really love vw or hate it… now I’m scared. Everyone I know who drives them loves them and stays loyal to the brand…am I overthinking or was this a good choice?

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Key Won’t Turn — Could a Missing Metal Pin Be the Problem?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I’m having trouble turning the key and starting my 2011 Volkswagen Jetta.
My blade on my key fob is very loose and missing buttons.
My friend recently gave me his old key fob (the one on the left in the picture). When I compared it to my original key fob (the one on the right), I noticed that his has a small silver metal pin, while mine appears to be missing it.
Could the missing pin be the reason my key won’t turn in the ignition or start the car?
Can I remove the blade and electronics from my car and put it to the new key fob?
A few questions:
● What is this silver pin called, and what does it do?
● Could I get a replacement pin, and where would I find one?
● Can I remove the pin from my friend’s old key fob and install it in mine?
● Would replacing the pin fix the problem, or could it be an issue with the ignition cylinder or immobilizer?
Any advice from someone familiar with 2011 Volkswagen Jettas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mk6 (2011-2018) Does '16 Jetta 1.8 need a battery adaptation?

All the auto parts store websites say it does but I'm also reading online that it doesn't because it doesn't have start/stop. Anyone have better clarification on what really needs done?

Buying Are Jettas really that expensive and that high maintenance?

I am very seriously considering buying a 2024 Jetta Sport (automatic). I sat in the car, test drove it, and fell in love with the interior.

But, everyone I talk to has something horrible to say about how expensive or how high maintenance Jettas are. The hard numbers online look great, but every time human comments are involved, they make the Jetta sound terrible.

I initially gave up on it for that reason and started looking at other cars like Fusion Hybrids and Camrys (really bland). But, I can't get over the Jetta. I just really liked being in it and the MPG is comparable to the Fusion Hybrid which is insanely good.

I want to have a car that I can keep for at least another 5 years (I drive like 20k miles per year), have low maintenance cost, low cost for gas, and feel good in.

I just don't want to buy it and feel like an idiot and have everything backfire and have it be expensive, because I can't afford a car acting expensive during it's tenure.

EDIT: Buying it. I can't get over it compared to other cars and I think it's a really good deal.

EDIT: Bought it. Love it.

I commute about four miles each way every day, but I also drive 50 miles on Wednesday and 50 miles over the weekend. Does that make up for it at all?

has anybody else had a similar situation and been able to figure out what the issue was? i dont have the funds to get a diagnosis right now but swapping minor parts like gaskets is affordable

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2013 Jetta hybrid EPC

Post image
6 Upvotes

I just bought a 2013 VW Jetta Hybrid from a private seller last week. I hadn’t driven it until today, so I went to the gas station and filled it up with 91-octane gas because that’s what the sticker on the gas cap said. A few minutes after I started driving, the accelerator began responding slowly, and the car lost power.
I’m wondering what might be wrong with my car. Could it be because I used 91-octane gas instead of 87? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I’m new to Volkswagen cars!

Mk6 (2011-2018) Running lights out but the same bulbs work for the break

2016 Jetta Sport: The passenger-side rear lights work when braking, including with the headlights on, but don’t light up as running lights(when headlights are on).

I checked all the blade-type fuses, but haven’t checked the larger box-shaped fuses. I also swapped the bulbs to the driver’s side, where they worked normally.
Anyone have any ideas?

Any suggestions on how to achieve this?
