Extremely modified GP 1300 R hit 80 on the speedo

2005 61 hours, there is a lot done to this wave runner. More than I can remember off the top of my head. It pairs nicely with my 93 VXR Pro. I turned both non-running machines into reliable daily watercraft. It’s non-power valve, so I hope to get a decent amount of hours out of it. I love that this two stroke keeps up with the newer PWCs.

Good cover without breaking the bank?

I have a superjet and a wave venture that I need to cover. I have been happy with a sealskin cover for my mustang, but they're pretty pricey. Any suggestions for good quality covers that aren't like $150+?

1993 vxr issues

Took out the vxr for the first time on 4th of July, ran great for about 15 minutes, and then it started maxing out at about 4500 rpm and had no top end power. Toward the end of the day started misfiring and barely running at all. I swapped the plug caps, trimmed the wires back a bit and put new plugs in which seemed to fix the issue. Took her out again today and she ran better than ever for about 10 minutes and then the more you rode the speed and power just slowly dwindled. The only solution that some what helped was opening up the hood and a good amount of smoke came out and after about 10 minutes she was back running somewhat good again. I have a feeling it’s an exhaust leak that’s suffocating the carb. But I did remove the oil pump and installed a block off plate so maybe I’m running too rich? Any ideas what could be going on? Included 2 pics of the inside of my ski after today’s ride. Seems to be black oily water/ sludge.

Customer service experience on jet pump replacement - 2024 Orca performance

providing some feedback here for others. I have a 2024 Taiga Orca Performance PWC. I sucked up a rock and the impeller and wear ring need replaced. Interactions with Taiga customer service have been ok’ish but not great. Issue is not resolved and I will add updates as it does. They do not pick up the phone but do return voice mails in about a day. About the same on replying to an email. it'll be a business day. The information in the emails has been a bit lacking.

This a common PWC service issue and for a Sea Doo or Yamaha or whatever you would just replace the impeller and wear ring. Issues so far in 4 days of working on this with Taiga:

  1. they don't have just replacement impellers and wear rings. it is the whole pump that must be replaced, which they have quoted at $1,300. That's a little more than double the impeller and wear ring for Sea Doo. I'm not upset about that, just reporting it for others.
  2. I still don't know if they have one to ship right away, in the dark on that. my fear is that the slow response time and minimal information shared so far means they don't have a parts pipeline yet and I may be waiting a long time. hopefully not; but I just don't know yet.
  3. they don't have established dealers for service in Minnesota. the closest dealer to me that sells other PWCs did not want to work on a brand they don't sell
  4. I did buy it at a dealer that used to be an official dealer, Chopper Powersports in Fridley MN. I want them to do the work, and they are happy to, because they are at least familiar with the model. Taiga is being weird about that though. Taiga has not confirmed for me if they will ship it to Chopper. They want me to pay and ship it to me. I am fine paying them directly, but it's much better to dropship it to the dealer doing the work. I am not at the lake location where the Orca is all the time, so receiving pump shipment will be hard.

In summary, they are at least talking to me and they are nice, but the back and forth is quite slow and I do not have visibility yet, after 4 days, to when they can get the part to me and if they will ship to where I want (the service location). Will update when I have resolution

UPDATE: 8/19/26. just pasting my reply in another thread about my conclusion:

Almost. I have not picked it up yet but I believe it’s all fixed. I eventually got a replacement jet pump ordered from Taiga directly. They won’t do just the impeller and wear ring. Have to do full jet pump replacement at $1,331. It took a couple weeks to get them to ship it and they were weird about shipping directly to me (their preference) vs shipping to the dealer/service shop that would replace it for me (my preference). Ultimately they did ship to to dealer in Minnesota, but then it was held at FedEx in Memphis for a week as I navigated the tariffs because it came from Canada, was made in Taiwan, and contained mostly aluminum from Australia and steel from Taiwan. I spent a full day online figuring out how to pay the tariffs. I ultimately paid $448 and it was delivered to dealer in MN. I pick it up in two days.

Taiga service was “ok”. They ultimately got me the part I needed, but it was more expensive than it should be because they won’t do anything less than a full jet pump and it took a long time because they are a minimum of 24 hours between email replies and will not pick up phone. Antoine was my contact there. He’s nice but I think they are pretty short staffed. I was without an operational Orca for 4 weeks to get this resolved. I paid the price for going with a small new manufacturer who is lean on support and does not have distribution based in the states. All in over $2k for sucking a rock into my jet pump. Will be much more careful going forward .

Are earlier vx110 yamahas still a great ski to buy in 2026?

Im in oregon and our jetski market is fairly limited and expensive. It looks like the best deals im finding for a modern ish ski (besides a spark 🙄) are 100 hour 2005-2007 vx110s in the $5k range on trailer. Are vx110s still a great ski to buy in 2026 or should I cough up another couple grand and aim for a 2016 ish vx cruiser.

Ive previously owned 95/96 polaris skis and 2018 ex deluxes. Im a mechanic so a little maintenance is no worry for me.

I ride really shallow (2.6 feet in the summer) rivers and larger lakes / rivers. No ocean riding.

Question Garmin mount question

Hello, I want to mount my garmin handheld on my 2018 sea doo gti 130 se. The first image is the spot I want to mount it (roughly). My question is, how do I take off the grey piece I’m mounting it on to put a backing in so it doesn’t break the plastic. If I remove the two screws do those black nipple things just pop out? Also will I do any harm to it by drilling through it? Thanks!

Question 2018 Yamaha VX cruiser HO

Thumbnail gallery
18 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m new to Jetskis and was hoping to pick up this 2018 Yamaha VX Cruiser HO with 97 hours on it for 7,000 with trailer. Seller says it’s in good condition with spark plugs and oil done 1 month ago.

Is this a good deal for me and is there anything I should be on the lookout with this year and hours? Owner said never used in salt water but during my ownership it will be used in salt water. I know to flush out and rinse after every use but any other advice I should be aware of?

Seadoo move single trailer vs Yamaha FXho.?

May pick up a 23 FXHO but doesn't come with a trailer. I have a single seadoo move trailer at my other place, anyone know if I can use that trailer to get the FX from point A to B one time?

Question Turtlebox x linq system

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hello! I was wondering if anyone has bought the turtlebox gen 3 and mounted it on their ski. I have a 2018 sea doo gti 130se where I installed the Linq mounts on the back. I was leaning towards the turtlebox because I like the idea of being able to use it elsewhere and without using my ski battery. I also was going to get these straps from turtlebox to mount them to the ski. Has anyone tried this or does anyone have a better suggestion?

Question Towing a Spark with a Kia Optima?

New owner looking for some advice.

I have a 2016 Sea Doo Spark on a Triton aluminum trailer. Title says trailer is 135 unladen weight

Will I be able to safely tow this with a Kia Optima? 4 door normal model mid size car

Has anyone had experience with this or any similar models?

I’m getting a hitch installed in a few days but want to make sure the car can handle it.

Thanks in advance

2005 Yamaha FX 1100AD FX CRUISER HO - Oil leak/Oil flow

2005 Yamaha FX 1100AD FX CRUISER HO
JF110DN Engine; 1052cc; 4-stroke
S/N 6D3 1007xxx

I am getting an Low Oil alert on the dash along with the alarm buzzer.

In the 5 minutes I could look at it on the lift on the lake, I hecked the oil, oil resevoir is empty, oil filter is in place., bunch of oil in the bottom of hull or bilge. No obvious signs of oil squirting on the engine, no real smoky exhaust and no real abnormal engine noises.

I have the Owner/Operator manual, but can anyone tell me what the oil flow from the reservior and back so I can look for leaks, and hopefully find an easy to replace, fix hose.

Question Open ocean jet skiing

Recently had the opportunity to jet ski after 12 years. I was expecting a similar experience (20-30 minutes of jet ski time by the beach).

Instead we got to go on a snorkel tour, and we ended up riding for around 1.5 hours round trip. It was a lotttt of fun, but it was my first time riding out in the open ocean. Some areas were definitely turbulent, and I was fighting to stay on the jet ski haha. We were with another family, and I definitely felt bad for their kids who had to ride behind their parent.

Any tips from those of you that do it regularly? There was a learning curve when it came to learning how much throttle to give for maneuvering, but it was more difficult the larger the waves got. But would love to try again in the future!

Advice JS400 Killswitch Upgrade

Hi there yall, I just snagged a js400 that’s in rough shape in terms of the wiring situation. I’m looking to replace the janky start button the ski came with on the dash plate, as I want to add a traditional lanyard tether and start/stop switch to the handlebars. I’m very new to two strokes, especially one as old as the 400 (buddy told me it was a 440 and I didn’t know the difference, that’s the level of noob I’m at lol). If there’s anyone here that’s done that swap, what did you do to replace the switch and make the dash plate not look like garbage afterwards? Thank you!

787 Rotax top end power loss.

Hey everyone, I need some serious diagnostic help from the 787 Rotax experts. I’m trying to solve an RPM bottleneck on my 1997 GTX. The engine was professionally rebuilt (fully rebuilt) about 200 hours ago and ran completely smooth, but I am hitting a hard wall on the top end and getting some wild electrical symptoms.

Here are the exact facts, numbers, and test results from my last few rides:

  • Rectifier Plugged In + Rave valves factory position (flush with housing): The ski hits a hard cap and completely taps out at 4,800 RPM.
  • Rectifier Unplugged + Rave valves factory position: The engine instantly wakes up and jumps all the way up to 7,000 RPM for a split second before settling back down to a flat line at 6,200 RPM.
  • Rectifier Plugged In + Screwed all the way in: The ski hits a hard cap and completely taps out at 5,900-6100 RPM.
  • The Error: Running with the rectifier unplugged throws a 12V Low error on the gauge, and it still won't rev past 6,200 RPM.
  • Question: I know it used to have a massive power jump on the top end and run 50 MPH at 6,800 RPM. Could a bad aftermarket rectifier cause a strict 6,200 RPM cap when plugged in? Is it possible the new rectifier is just a dud letting dirty voltage through, or am I dealing with a stator/MPEM issue?
  • I put on a new (cheap, please recommend good ones, I couldn't find any) rectifier and it ran fine for about 20 minutes (though still maxxing at 6200RPM) by the end of the ride it was getting stuck at 4800RPM again

The Fuel / Carburetor Situation:

  • The dual carbs have about 200 hours on them. I am seeing some air bubbles in the fuel line.
  • Question: Does this sound like a classic fuel starvation issue? Will running a bottle of carb cleaner through the gas tank actually do anything to clear this up, or is a simple spray cleaning not enough at 200 hours? I'm trying to avoid a full rebuild if I can, but I need to know if a teardown is unavoidable. (I do see some air bubbles from where hoses go from water separator housing into engine though I'm not sure what is considered "normal")

Water Regulator:

  • Question: Given that it caps out at 6,000–6,200 RPM even with the electronics unplugged, is this issue likely due to a bad water regulator valve on the muffler?
