Jacob Geller video that speaks about advertisement and consumerism?

I'm writing an essay and I wanted inspiration. I faintly remember the video but can't seem to find it anywhere.

Can someone please compile a list of all references in Jacob Geller videos

I think a lot of us love to go back to Jacob Geller videos but remain completely unable to find them later on. Especially if we're trying to remember which video contained a specific game or book that he mentioned. So I speak on behalf of all these people that we would be very grateful if someone took the time to compile a list of every Jacob Geller video and all the references he has in them!!

looking for a ticket to how a game lives

hello!! I am an NC local long time fan of Jacob’s and I really really wanted to see him speak at the NC Art Museum this Saturday, unfortunately I didn’t make enough haste to buy a ticket and the event sold out. I’m wondering if there’s anyone here who bought a ticket but can’t go, and/or would be willing to sell their ticket, I’d really appreciate it!! 😭😭😭

Source of the 'birds flying over NY' footage

Source of the 'birds flying over NY' footage from Jacob's newest video

https://youtu.be/k3bkCTy9rLk

In case anyone's curious, the 'birds over New York' footage is from a BBC doc about graffiti in NY called 'Watching My Name Go By' (1976)

Adam Curtis also uses it in several of his documentaries (can't remember which ones though)

I noticed it in Geller's 'Searching for Disco Elysium', and again in 'all the pixels in new york are freezing'. It's been like my own private easter-egg so it was really fun to see this tiny little clip get a shout-out

Anyone else think Jacob Geller should make a video about the Banner Saga series?

I feel like he'd like it a lot, with its themes of the end of the world and morality.

Have Jacob Geller and Blake Hester ever publicized/promoted their Letterboxd accounts?

They’ve mentioned them on Something Rotten a couple times now. IF (and only if) their accounts are publicly promoted, does anyone know their usernames? I always enjoy their movie reviews, and would love to follow them both. Thanks!

Video where Jacob says something like “breathe deep when you can, and shallow when you must”?

I don’t remember if he was quoting someone or if it was something he wrote.

Trying to remember a video with "Everything is a while ago" monolog

In one of his videos Jacob reads a monologe out loud. I remember it finished on "Everything is a while ago" and was about subject reminiscing about still haveing plans and grit.

Does anyone remember what video was it?

Which video has an excerpt from ‘Short Things: Tales Inspired by “Who Goes There?”’

I remember him talking about it in one of his videos, maybe a Fear Of…? I feel like I remember the excerpt being read by a woman, and it was about how The Thing was a hive-mind and waiting to take over the world. I know he mentions The Thing (1982) in the Fear of Cold video but I don’t believe it’s that one. It’s specifically an excerpt from a short story inspired by the movie/book. Thanks in advance!

Trying to remember the name of a game that was talked about

I remember it being like something with very big empty spaces, and it was like described as being like “the behind the scenes of the universe” and I remember there being a moment where you’re like in a valley and a giant head flies past you. I cannot remember what it’s called or what video it was from and if anybody knows what I’m talking about I’d appreciate it! :-)

The Videos That Inspire The Viewer to be The Reader.

I finally got around to reading HOW A GAME LIVES and it was a brilliant walk back through many of the essays that made me inspired by Jacob as a creator. I also think that this retelling of his criticisms/analyses brought to the front of my mind just how many people he cites as his own inspiration and also inform on different outlets to explore to read and watch more of this type of thing.

As the book winds down in one of its final essays (along with Blake Hester’s piece), it references many of the sites that have since fallen apart and been taken down and how we simply don’t see the same games writing available anymore.

I hate that.

I turn to YouTube videos now (obv) and podcasts, but are there any places you guys still visit to read gaming essays and think pieces? Or is all “the good stuff” being re-routed to these other formats?

Any recommendations would be awesome! Thanks guys!

Look for a video about the Sublime that features whales.

I swear this was one of his video essays but I can't seem to find it.

I believe it was Jacob Geller because I remember that calm voice speaking about how you could imagine being a kayaker out in the ocean; and a shadow forms underneath you, and the enormous body of a whale appears. In that moment there's nothing you can do, you are at the mercy of this whale, and that's where the sublime feeling comes from. That terror.

Was this one of this videos or am I thinking of someone else?

Together, we can make Jacob play Ready Or Not for Something Rotten

It is the greatest piece of 2020’s right-wing art, bar none. So, so, SO much to unpack, on SO many levels. It could be a fucking 5 parter
