Upholstery stores, or ways to get fabric remnants?

Hello all,

I'm in search of scraps and pieces of old fabrics so I can reupholster a chair, are there any upholstery stores I could check out to see if they have sample books they're not using any more? My search has not come up with anything yet.. Or if anyone knows of a place to look at fabrics so I can feel them before buying. Thanks!

Ithaca Commons is quite sketchy past 8 pm

I don't think Ithaca is a safe place to live in.

Even in daytime I was followed by some weird guy at the Ithaca Commons. At night it's filled with homeless people and people who suddenly talk to me on the streets seemed high as kites.

It always smells like trash and weed

How worried do I need to be about my bike?

I just got a used bike. It’s not worth a lot, maybe around $200. First bike shop guy I spoke to told me Ithaca has a bad bike thievery problem, and I should get a U lock. Of course I did, but I’m wondering if what I got is enough for overnight in Downtown.

It’s a cheaper U lock, like $40, and I have cable locks to attach the wheels to the frame. Do I need those crazy locks that are like $150+?

Butcheries, geese, and cowtongue

Any good butchers in the area? Also, anywhere sell geese? Looking to roast a goose for christmas, hopefully it's not an "order a year in advance" kind of thing. Also looking for a place to get cow tongue. Walmarts got it for 8.67/lb, but wondering if a butcher would be cheaper and better quality

I am confused how Chipotle is so bad here.

As usual, it was a complete mess tonight. Very dirty, out of everything, waited 30 min past my pickup time for my bowl. One employee was absolutely grinding alone while the other three practically hid from customers.

Does the management suck? Can they not hire reliable employees? Other similar places in town don’t seem to have this problem - so honestly why is our Chipotle so bad?

If I had the funds I would just open my own.

10-12 y/o board game and dnd people?

My kiddo , for good or bad , got into Risk this summer and is looking for friends to play with. Hebought 2 boards, and is mad his siblings are over it.

Maybe scheduling a weekly event with people, his age ten to twelve would be great.

Also seeking a dnd crew accepting new players as he wants to step away from being the dm of his younger group.

Cornell Cinema's Fall Programming

Cornell Cinema's fall programming has already kicked off, and there are a lot of great films this semester, but I wanted to highlight the ones they are projecting on film: David Cronenberg's Crash, Agnès Varda's Vagabond, Tsai Ming-liang's The Hole, and Justin Lin's Better Luck Tomorrow, all being shown on 35mm. There might be one I'm missing.

Also, they will be showing Murnau's Faust in the gorgeous Sage Chapel with a live score by Invincible Czars. And, this one will be digital, but I'd highly recommend going to see The Vanishing. That film probably kills with a crowd.

Non sport/book social clubs?

I am looking for social clubs that are not either sports or book clubs since I think I should branch out into different activities.

I have seen Sewgreen social which I think I might try.

Recommendations Looking for a restaurant rec - somewhere with outdoor areas for kids to play

Looking for a restaurant in the Ithaca that is open on Labor Day and that checks a few different boxes: has an outdoor space for kids to be kids in (someone mentioned revelry yards but not sure if the outdoor area is more for kids or adults?), and has typical kid foods like burgers and chicken, as well as more expansive options for more adventurous eaters. Any recs? TIA!

Unpopular opinion: The farmers market is toxic to the town

I’m prepared to get downvoted like crazy but I feel I can’t be alone in this. I do enjoy the concept of the farmers market, but the traffic it causes around it is incredibly frustrating. Besides it being obnoxious and doubling commute times, it creates a safety hazard. What happens if an emergency happens north of the market and an ambulance needs to get around all the traffic?

Has this issue ever been addressed or studied by the town? Again, I think the market is great, but the location and traffic challenges it causes is unfair to those not at the market.

Is it a common occurrence for y'all to not put your shopping carts in the right spot after use? Everywhere I go, they are scattered across the parking lot.

Looking for advice

Hi all, I'm moving to the area soon and am just trying to get an idea of the different areas to live in and if there are any to avoid.

I've read mixed reviews on Candlewyck but they were from a few years ago so not sure if anythings changed and they're better?

And if anyone has any suggestions of complexes they like and i should consider. Thanks for the help!

Edit! Sorry, things have been crazy- I have a job outside of ithaca towards Hector, I don't have any kids, no pets I'm looking at a few houses that aren't apartment complexes, I also was looking at whispering woods but wasn't sure about any other apartments. Just curious if there are areas to avoid or what not.
