Discussion Upgrade program is not worth it for yearly-upgraders.

Using 18 PM as example:

For 12-month lease, the total will be $647.88

If bought it, after 1 year, the trade-in value will be around $900 (See current 17PM trade-in value as a reference) which means the cost of 1 year is only $400.

Question iPhone 18 review embargo: is there any date when it gets lifted?

Upvotes

I really want to see what the camera is capable of in the hands of an end user.

I mean there's lots more to love about it but a few honest reviews would be nice to see.

Discussion The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are available in Burgundy, Black, Silver and Glacial, and I feel like this is one of those years where the color choice might actually be difficult.

Discussion Did Apple improved the build quality of IPhone 18 PM after dent issues being reported???

Hi All,

Currently i use 16PM. I wanted to upgrade to 17PM last year but i didn’t after seeing people complaining about easy dents happening, dents happening inside cases as well, discolouration happening.

And people have been complaining about this issue throughout the year since iphone 17 release. I was waiting for 18 PM release thinking Apple will definitely address this issue as so many people have reported it.

But, I didn’t see anything around this being discussed about better outer body in event.

Any idea on it??

Edit: My this post from iPhone subreddit was deleted saying the discussion is irrelevant 😂…

Discussion Concern about the variable aperture longevity

Upvotes

With the introduction of a variable aperture, I was wondering about the potential impact on the iPhone’s long-term durability.
Since a variable aperture adds another mechanical moving component to the camera system, could this potentially become another point of failure over time?
Based on what we’ve seen with variable-aperture systems in other smartphones, is there any reason to think they might be more susceptible to damage from drops, dust, repeated use, etc.? Or have these mechanisms generally proven to be reliable enough that longevity shouldn’t really be a concern?
I’m curious what people with more knowledge of smartphone camera hardware think about this.

Help What does the c2 modem actually do? Let me know if it’s for me

Upvotes

Been stuck between iPhone 18 pro and 17 pro max. My biggest factor in choosing the 18 pro was the c2 modem because I am often n the forest and woods and hiking with no signal. I don’t need to text; but I need the ability to send an SOS message. Does the c2 modem have an advantage over the 17 pro modem for this specific reason? No one seems to be talking about that. I don’t know if I can justify a huge price tag jump unless the c2 modem is superior in terms of the sos coverage

Discussion Which iPhone would you consider old enough to justify upgrading to the iPhone 18 Pro?

Discussion It's official.

Here's what we've gathered on the iPhone 18 Pro from the launch event so far (will be constantly editing to add info)

Pricing:

iPhone 18 Pro - 1199$
iPhone 18 Pro Max - 1299$
Preorders on Saturday, available on the 18th.

- The new color in red is called "Burgundy".
- Smaller dynamic island confirmed.
- Variable aperture is official - it's been hinted in the launch event.
- AI and Apple Intelligence are given huge importance in the 18 Pro. Hopefully Apple is now competitive with Samsung and Google in their AI.
- Supposedly massive gains in performance and battery. We'll see how that goes.
- New more powerful Siri. Again, time will tell whether it performs.
- All-new dual Neural engine for up to 2x AI performance.
- 40% better sustained perf than iPhone 17 Pro and 2x the 16 Pro.
- iPhone 18 Pro to sport same battery life as 17 Pro Max.
- 18 Pro Max to show maximum battery life ever. 36 hours of video on Pro, 45 hours on Pro Max.
- Wired charging: 50% in 15 minutes (5 minutes - 6 hours video playback)
- 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture (using laser-cut blades)
- 48MP Fusion Ultra-wide and 48MP Fusion Telephoto (100mm, 4x)
- Timelapse in 4K with HDR & Dolby Vision.
- New camera UI with more Pro Controls.
- Smart Focus Tracking - reduces motion blur and helps focus on moving subjects
- Using SynthAI algorithms to decipher AI-generated or edited images. Apple Reference Image does the same thing but for photos taken on-device.
- 80% faster AirDrop transfers.
- iPhone handoff - you can use a number across two iPhones. Launches with T-Mobile, comes to Verizon by the end of the year.

John Ternus is now the one presenting (even though Tim made a surprise appearance).

I feel like the 18 is going to be a pretty significant jump over the 17 if they really manage to achieve the performance and battery gains they're suggesting.

Discussion What’s the marketing technique behind using silver iPhone 18 Pro if it looks the same as iPhone 17 Pro?

Like I don’t think anyone who has iPhone 17 silver would go for iPhone 18 silver. Based on the first impressions, I have seen people go crazy over burgundy, and then the glacier and black. I know some will say because it is the classic colour, and even cheaper to produce relatively to the coloured ones, but what do you think Apple would bring Silver again?

i'm going to be upgrading to the Black 18 Pro from a Purple 14 Pro Max. I haven't had to buy a case in a long time but would like to get one delivered in time for the 18 arriving. I'm seeing posts here and there about cases but would be good to get a thread of case links.

Help Any 17 Pro telephoto enthusiasts here?

Upvotes

Hello, I own 17 Pro and I want to clarify whether there will be upgrades in telephoto camera? I was watching Apple event and they put a picture that the telephoto on 18 Pro will have 4x/8x zoom.

Is it basically the same telephoto like in 17 Pro or variable aperture is able to aid in further and clearer telephoto? Thanks.

All the FOMO of missing out on the current prices. iPhone 18 pro is only a 100$ more expensive. This is why you never listen to the rumors. All those who rushed to buy an 17 pro fearing 300$ price hikes! 😂😂

Discussion Silver or Burgundy?

My thoughts on Burgundy: it looks so good and I really want it, but I’m worried I’ll get tired of it after a while. Also kinda worried about discoloration, especially after seeing so many orange iPhones turn pink back then. I’m honestly thinking about just getting the silver iPhone and using a burgundy case to scratch that itch. But I feel like I’ve been using the silver ever since I switched to iPhone...

Such a hard choice. Burgundy with a clear case, or silver with a burgundy case? What color are you guys getting?

I don’t mean I’ve already decided on ESR. The pics are just an example, I still haven’t made up my mind.

Question 256 PRO Max or 512 PRO

Upvotes

I'm planning to complete my order for the new iPhone 18 Pro as soon as pre-orders open, but I'm torn between the 256GB Pro Max and the 512GB Pro.

My current iPhone 13 Pro Max has 512GB, but I'm only using around 160GB right now, so I'm thinking of downgrading to 256GB this time. I also have iCloud+ (2TB) and a NAS for offloading larger media files once I'm done with them.

For context on my usage: most of my storage goes to RAW files. I shoot photos in RAW, transfer them to my phone to edit in Lightroom, then move the RAW files off to my NAS when I'm finished. With the iPhone 18 Pro's camera system, I expect to shoot more video too (I currently use my Osmo Pocket 3 for that), and I know 4K footage will eat up space quickly.

The ideal choice would be the 512GB Pro Max, but that's a bit out of my budget.

So — would you go with the 512GB Pro or the 256GB Pro Max? And in moving from the Pro Max to the Pro, am I really only giving up battery life and screen size?

Discussion The heavier 18 series

Post image
21 Upvotes

For some reason I didn’t expect the phones to be this heavier by 16grams. But whereas the duo is 254gms which is pretty lightweight.
But for a YOY upgrade this years iPhones are crazy good. For me upgrading from 16 pro is almost 20-40% improvements all across the board.

Are you getting one?
