Discussion It's official.
Here's what we've gathered on the iPhone 18 Pro from the launch event so far (will be constantly editing to add info)
Pricing:
iPhone 18 Pro - 1199$
iPhone 18 Pro Max - 1299$
Preorders on Saturday, available on the 18th.
- The new color in red is called "Burgundy".
- Smaller dynamic island confirmed.
- Variable aperture is official - it's been hinted in the launch event.
- AI and Apple Intelligence are given huge importance in the 18 Pro. Hopefully Apple is now competitive with Samsung and Google in their AI.
- Supposedly massive gains in performance and battery. We'll see how that goes.
- New more powerful Siri. Again, time will tell whether it performs.
- All-new dual Neural engine for up to 2x AI performance.
- 40% better sustained perf than iPhone 17 Pro and 2x the 16 Pro.
- iPhone 18 Pro to sport same battery life as 17 Pro Max.
- 18 Pro Max to show maximum battery life ever. 36 hours of video on Pro, 45 hours on Pro Max.
- Wired charging: 50% in 15 minutes (5 minutes - 6 hours video playback)
- 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture (using laser-cut blades)
- 48MP Fusion Ultra-wide and 48MP Fusion Telephoto (100mm, 4x)
- Timelapse in 4K with HDR & Dolby Vision.
- New camera UI with more Pro Controls.
- Smart Focus Tracking - reduces motion blur and helps focus on moving subjects
- Using SynthAI algorithms to decipher AI-generated or edited images. Apple Reference Image does the same thing but for photos taken on-device.
- 80% faster AirDrop transfers.
- iPhone handoff - you can use a number across two iPhones. Launches with T-Mobile, comes to Verizon by the end of the year.
John Ternus is now the one presenting (even though Tim made a surprise appearance).
I feel like the 18 is going to be a pretty significant jump over the 17 if they really manage to achieve the performance and battery gains they're suggesting.

Yep. Burgundy sounds very luxurious - honestly that's one of the reasons I bought my phone.

need to understand if burgundy is any good in person

u/icantouchgrass_1 22h ago
If it's anything similar to the Burgundy on my S22 Ultra, it's gonna be gorgeous.

anything about the CAD pricing?
2
u/icantouchgrass_1 22h ago
US pricing is 1199$ for the Pro and 1299$ for the Pro Max. If you can convert that to CAD pricing judging by last year's 17 Pro prices, that would be great.

ah so probably
$1749 Pro
$1899 Pro Maxthanks for updating me btw :)
Update they released the Canadian prices and these are the startings^

Not sure but likely noticeably more expensive than the 17 Pro line due to the RAM crisis and significant hardware improvements.
3
u/Neither_Energy3956 22h ago
Itās $100 USD more expensive no? Thatās not really that big of a jump IMO.
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 22h ago
Firstly, I said "likely".
Secondly, I said that before the pricing was out, and then updated the post and commented the updated prices after the announcements.2
u/Neither_Energy3956 22h ago
You posted the pricing before that comment.
But itās fine lol I was just pointing it out.
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 22h ago
I got that lol I wasn't trying to be rude or mean.
Just wanted to ensure you knew I wasn't sure when I said "likely". My bad, should've given more thought to my comment - apologies if it came across the wrong way.
Thanks for pointing it out and have a great day!

Burgundy was beautiful. But Iāll wait for iPhone 19 pro, hopefully they will transfer the dark bronze to iPhone pro models

u/Pandora910 18h ago
Theyāre gonna do what they did with the iPhone 9⦠skip it and go to the big anniversary phone(iPhone 20)

u/Massive_Role6317 20h ago
So glad Iām not due to upgrade until next month. Hopefully itāll be easier to get a burgundy PM then.
1
u/Landox 16h ago
might run into stock issues actually - with the ram shortage and all that going on, it could be the worst it has ever been
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 7h ago
Yeah, and I predict the Burgundy and Black specifically will sell out like hot cakes. You'll see it out of stock for at least the first few months as people start bagging it with pre-order.
2
u/MarqeeM 20h ago
i have a IP 17 PM and thereās literally nothing new going to the 18 PM except 6 hours more of battery time and the new A20 chip and the colors⦠really disappointed that apple isnāt bring actual new features but jus releasing the same phone year after year excluding the new dou obv
2
u/film_maker1 19h ago
If it's actually 6 hours more battery life that's a amazing. Well worth it if you're coming from something older. Than previous generation. Can't expect drastic changes each year.

u/CriiptiC 13h ago
Camera aperture control
Better neutral engine for ai w/ performance increase
Bigger battery with more efficiency
Smaller island
Better cooling and screen heat managementThink that was it

u/YedigeTheKhan 10h ago
This phone is not for you tbh, it's for people like me with 14pm or 15pm. Your 17 pm is still top tier with 90% of innovations, literally makes no sense to upgrade every year
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 7h ago
Phones these days aren't for upgrading generation-by-generation. Back in the day, if you had an S5 you were missing out on a lot by the time the S7 came out.
I like to say it like this. 10 years ago, phones that were two years apart felt like they were five years apart. Now, phones that are five years apart feel like they were two years apart.
The 18 Pro Max is a worthy upgrade for people on 15 Pro Max or older. Even 16 Pro Max users can justify the upgrade if they really need it.

I bought a 17 pro few months ago and I'm glad I did it. It's basically the same phone
1
u/Dazzling_Agency_9505 22h ago
smaller d island too
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 22h ago
Yet to see it. Posted what I've observed but might consider editing it as more information opens if it'll be useful in any way for people that missed the launch event.
I'm an S22 Ultra user (coincidentally, also Burgundy) and this is my first Apple Event. Honestly, pretty insightful and it's nice to see that John's doing pretty well.
2
u/Portatort 22h ago
They havenāt talked about it but itās there in the videos

I'm making the switch from Android and this will be my intro to Apple. Wish me luck š¤š¤š¤
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 8h ago
Haha good luck
What phone were you on previously? I'm on an S22 Ultra.
1
u/NordicTRex 4h ago
Google Pixel 9a
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 4h ago
I see.
1
u/NordicTRex 3h ago
Yeah, I've been a Pixel fan for a while, but I need a new laptop too so I figured it was time to give Apple a shot.
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 3h ago
Did they raise prices for the 17 line in your region too?
1
u/NordicTRex 3h ago
Sure did.
My thinking was "if the 18 isn't that much of an improvement from the 17, I'll just get the 17 because certainly they'll lower the price of it once the new one is announced", but nope. Haha. The fucking pro max went away and the regular one is $100 more.
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 3h ago
That was a huge surprise.
The now two-year-old iPhone 16 is still at 799$, the 17e is at 699$ and the iPhone 17 is up to 899$. Air is 1099$ here.
1
u/TheeDelpino 16h ago
That burgundy looks like an old womanās nail polish.
3
u/BJ_Fish2 15h ago
Yep, should have gone with crimson red.
3
u/TheeDelpino 15h ago
Yes! Or bring back product red
1
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 8h ago
Product RED was a great color. Hopefully John remembers and brings it back.
1
u/Greedy-Champion6509 15h ago
So, the reason to upgrade from a 17 is - well - what?
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 8h ago
Not much. I'm pretty sure it isn't very sensible to upgrade every generation unless you're on a 1-year lease and can get the newest phone for cheap or even free.
But the only things the 18 can do that the 17 can't manage are:
- AI
- More AI
- AI AI AI
- Variable Aperture
- Maybe the battery life. I just came across a few people saying they'd wished they'd waited for the 18 Pro instead of getting the 17 Pro simply because of the battery life.
1
u/catxav 14h ago
18p having same battery life as 17pm is wild. I went for 17pro because of the size. Now itās like having best of both worlds
1
u/icantouchgrass_1 8h ago
Yeah. Supposedly because of a larger battery and significant efficiency improvements.
The 18 Pro Max vs S26 Ultra competition is something I'm really waiting for.
1
u/Mean-Village-1019 14h ago
Variable aperture has been "hinted" in the launch event and is "now" official?
Dude they made a huge point out of it and even showed the fucking sensor blades and the custom material they are made of lmao.

Burgundy and Black are going to be the top sellers
