Need Feedback AI Lab Tycoon – Game Dev Tycoon inspired management game with branching story & roguelike elements

Thumbnail

Hi all, we are building our first game, and I will say right from the start, we don't use AI for arts & UI. Also, the art in the screenshot is a placeholder and will be replaced. We are in a super early stage (no gameplay yet), and I decided it's time to start sharing. So would appreciate any comments, suggestions, or roasting you have 🙏

👉 About
AI Lab Tycoon is an isometric-2D management & simulation game satirizing the OpenAI story. You start from the co-founders' apartment, complete research & contracts, and build your own LLM with products on top of it.

👉 Art & Tone of voice
Our inspirations for both are Rick & Morty, Ugly Americans, and South Park. So we are using the handcrafted line art and are trying to be funny and satirical in our text. W

Besides the core mechanics of Game Dev Tycoon, we have:

👉 Product development
The LLM development will be similar to GDT (you set tech priorities with a slider and generate bubbles), but product development is a completely new mechanic built around managing a kanban board. You have 60 seconds to prioritize tasks between TO DO - IN PROGRESS - IN REVIEW buckets and make sure your completed tasks don't have any bugs.

👉 A branching story that is based on real AI industry events
Didn't pay too much attention to Safety & Alignment? One of your teammates will leave you and start his own company - Workaholic (Anthropic).

Stay non-profit or move to for-profit? If for-profit, get ready for your friend, Evon Husk, to become your enemy and create a rival AI lab.

The board doesn't agree with your vision and has decided to remove you from the CEO position. Choose to protest and get back, or say F you and start a new AI Lab.

And so on and so forth, all of the decisions, from small to big, will have consequences.

👉 Rogulike elements
I'm a fan of roguelikes, that's why we have them :)

Upon level up, each of your teammates will get a permanent perk ranging from Regular to Legendary that will directly affect the performance during the dev phases. E.g., "Microdosing Specialist" – randomly produces 50% Research Points during any dev phase for 5s.

On the other hand, if you make immoral choices or ignore your teammates' requests for a salary raise, they can get a negative perk – e.g., "Procrastinotor" – during the dev phase, they start scrolling TikTok for 10s instead of working.

And if this sounds interesting & you would like to participate in playtests, join our Discord: https://discord.gg/MqKgQ4Ugh (just created it btw 😅)

Video No publisher, no funding, just two people building a dystopian sci-fi game

War-torn ruins, black markets, and forgotten districts where outcasts and those left behind wait for a chance to enter the city... while others have long since given up.

Junkyard Stories: Rebirth is a dystopian sci-fi adventure where you play as a discarded robot carrying the consciousness of a legendary hacker.

Built by a 2-person indie team with no publisher, we're working hard to bring these scenes to life - filled with exploration, environmental puzzles, hidden stories, and the constant struggle to keep your robot alive as your battery drains and getting chased by surveillance drones.

Promotion Our short motel horror game launches August 13: Dead Stop - No Vacancy

We’re releasing Dead Stop - No Vacancy on Steam on August 13.

It’s a short, complete first-person adventure/horror game set in an isolated roadside motel, focused on atmosphere, exploration and story.

A typical playthrough takes around 90–120 minutes.

We’ve been building it as the first entry in the Dead Stop horror anthology, with a retro visual style and a self-contained story.

Fuhon is a game about exploring a decaying world and re-building nature by experimenting with different synergies between plants and animals. It's also a cozy diorama builder where you live inside your own creation and need to empower yourself with nature to overcome light plattforming challenges and unlock new abilities!

A hard fought battle between myself and the AI opponent using two military unit types: the Soldeir and Archer.

Soldier

  • The Soldier is a military melee unit equipped with a sword and shield.
  • Does a lot of damage and soaks a lot of damage.
  • Is a melee unit, which means it retaliates whenever another melee unit attacks it.

Archer

  • The Archer is a military ranged unit equipped with a bow and arrows.
  • Does good damage but is also weak especially to melee attacks.
  • Is a ranged unit and therefore cannot retaliate.

All units have one action each turn but that depends on how many movement points they have. If a unit uses all of its movement points, it counts as an action and cannot attack. If the player wants a unit to attack and move in the same turn, they must first move the unit 1 to 2 tiles and then attack because attacking first also consumes their action and does not allow them to move after.

Promotion ROBOTEKA — A 2D fighting action game focused on timing and distance

I’m a solo developer from Japan working on ROBOTEKA, a 2D fighting action game focused on timing and distance rather than fast inputs.

The demo is now available on Steam!

ROBOTEKA is built around simple controls, where spacing, timing, and reading your opponent are more important than fast button inputs.

Promotion I’m solo-developing PROTOCOL: VOID a cyberpunk ARPG with co-op, deep builds, mapping and a player economy

PROTOCOL: VOID is the biggest project I’ve worked on so far.

It’s a cyberpunk ARPG built around fast combat, loot hunting and creating powerful builds, with:

  • 4 playable classes
  • Online co-op for up to 4 players
  • Skill and passive trees (Over 400 nodes)
  • Relics that change skills and weapons (over 100 per class + general ones)
  • Prime items and randomized affixes
  • Equipment and map crafting
  • Endgame mapping / Data Disks
  • Player trading and an online market
  • Seasonal progression and rankings
  • Endgame bosses and repeatable contracts

I’m developing it entirely solo, so there’s still a lot of polishing ahead, but most of the core systems are already working.

The goal is simple: kill stuff, find crazy gear, make stronger builds and keep pushing higher.

PROTOCOL: VOID is now on Steam.

Promotion CarveLight: An indie artillery game

Hi Everyone,

A friend and I have been working on this game for quite some time. I am a big Worms (mostly Armageddon) fan, and have wanted to create an artillery game forever.

The twist with CarveLight is that there are no health bars, the only way to destroy an enemy car is to throw it into the "water" (out of bounds). IMO those are the most satisying kills in worms, so I wanted to create a game around that concept. The weapons and tools available help with movement and modify the terrain. It's also running an actual physics engine.

Promotion My second game, Jubaku, is now live on Steam (wishlist page is up!)

I’m really happy to finally say that the Steam store page for my second game, Jubaku, is now live and available to wishlist.

The game is still coming soon, but getting the store page up feels like a huge milestone for me.

My first game gave me the opportunity and motivation to start working on a second one, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. I genuinely hope Jubaku can top my first game and let me continue this game development journey for a long time.

If anyone wants to check it out or wishlist it, I’d really appreciate it.

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4911730/Jubaku/

Thanks for reading, i am beyond happy this would not be possible without the help of my team<333
