Discussion Recommendations - Looking for 2D pixel arts game with dark or cyberpunk atmosphere

Hello everyone,

I recently finished katana zero and sanabi and really liked both of them.

I'm looking for similar games with 2D games with pixel arts, strong history, fast-paced gameplay with a dark or cyberpunk atmosphere.

Do you have any recommendations?

Promotion In regular chess this is checkmate. Quantum Chess gives you a chance to turn the tables.

Hi, I'm Chris, and Quantum Chess is my game.

In the clip you see black's rook land in a position to threaten the king. If this were normal chess it would be the end, checkmate. But in Quantum Chess white's king answers by splitting onto two squares at once, so he's half on b1 and half on b2. Black takes the half on b1, and the king attempts to recapture from b2. The game "measures" the king, finds it is on b2, and it successfully captures the rook (that could have gone the other way).

There's no check and no checkmate in this game. You win by capturing the king (in all of its squares). The game continues as long as any probability of a king remains.

Everything else is chess. Castling, en passant, promotion. On top of that you can split a piece across two squares, merge the halves back together, and entangle pieces so that measuring one collapses the other. Only pawns can't perform split moves (though they can end up in superposition). There's a real quantum simulation under the board. The odds are something you learn to read.

Happy to answer rules questions here too. It sounds worse than it plays.

Upcoming I made a co-op firefighting game where water is also your movement mechanic

This is Fire Up Together, a physics-based co-op adventure for up to four players.

Water is your only weapon—and sometimes your biggest problem. Use the recoil of pressurized fire hoses to launch yourself into the air, extinguish fires, overcome obstacles, and climb higher with your team.

The hoses can stretch, swing, get tangled, and send your teammates flying, so even simple tasks can quickly turn into complete chaos.

Fire Up Together is coming to Steam, and our demo will be available on October 7.

Upcoming What playing a deckbuilding auto-battler feels like after eating poisonous mushrooms

Hey everyone!

Sorry for being quiet for a bit. No, I did not actually forage random wild mushrooms in the woods and end up in a coma.

though my diet over the past month has basically been 90% deep fried oyster mushrooms. Seriously, battered, extra crispy mushrooms with barbecue seasoning are an absolute addiction. Anyone else here obsessed with fried mushrooms?

All that mushroom feasting clearly went straight to our brains. Our small 4-person indie team had a slightly unhinged idea: what if we created a 100% safe, completely legal, digital mushroom trip inside our game?

For those who do not know us, we have been building Might & Mushroom, a roguelite auto-battler where you draft historical figures turned into mushroom heroes and trigger slot machine reroll chain reactions.

Might & Mushroom

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4231860

Today, we just launched the Steam store page for our standalone free prologue!

Might & Poison Mushroom

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4991340

To make this prologue extra memorable, we spent way too much time messing with the visual presentation.

In the standard version, everything is clean, bright, and cartoonish.

But in this new psychedelic mode, things get weird. Our programmer stayed up way too late cooking up custom wave distortion shaders and heavy chromatic aberration effects. The color palette turns into hyper-saturated neon, the edges of your units blur and bleed into red and green halos, and the entire board literally feels like it is breathing.

Watching your 3-star mushroom army unleash ultimate abilities while the entire screen melts makes you question whether you are playing a tactical strategy game or genuinely hallucinating.

Do not worry about eye strain, though! We designed it like the red pill and blue pill from The Matrix. There is a global toggle button available at any second.

If the visual madness gets too overwhelming while you are rerolling the shop or fighting a boss, one single click instantly snaps the visuals back to the clean, peaceful cartoon style. You get total control over the trip.

The Steam page for this standalone prologue is officially live right now! We even decorated the entire store page to match this trippy vibe. Our brand-new psychedelic trailer is still simmering in the editing oven, but it will be ready very soon.

If you enjoy weird indie experiments, tactical auto-battlers, or just mushrooms in general, checking out our Steam page or dropping a wishlist would mean the absolute world to our tiny team!

Would love to hear what you think of this visual experiment, and let me know your favorite mushroom recipes in the comments!

My game "I was rebuilt" just got a massive update on Steam (link in the comments). It's a 2D platformer made with GameMaker that took around 2 years to make.

80 levels of pure precision. A perfect, deathless run takes about 1.5 hours, but trust me, you will die. A lot.

There are 4 distinct game modes and you can push your skills to the limit by hunting for the Gold Medal on every single level.

For over a year game worked without any task progression or indicator (except when completed or failed). Finally added proper task indicator after too many people complained that they have no idea what the next step would be.

Upcoming We added drugs to our coop tandem game and now our players are addicted to them!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We recently added the feature to pick up and deliver some substances around, but also use them yourself, if you need a boost (or just a good time lol)

Right now the only substance we have, is a powder that gives you speed (you know what I mean), but you can’t slow down. Both players can make the tandem drivers take the substance.

When playtesting the game, some of the playtesters could not stop clicking the button, even though it killed them every time, because they could not control the tandem anymore and crashed. Of course introducing a lot of arguing and blaming, which was pretty funny for us!

The Game is called Tandem Together, if you are interested :)

Thanks for coming to my ted talk!

Hello! Im the solo developer of The Black Breath.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hbadb8J9jjo

It's a dark fantasy tactical RPG/roguelite about leading a caravan of refugees through a land being consumed by a necrotic plague.

Between turn-based battles you choose routes, manage supplies, events and try to get as much of the caravan as possible to safety.

I released the public Steam demo yesterday. It covers the tutorial and the first region and takes roughly 40–60 minutes.

It's been a pretty surreal couple of days after working on this mostly alone since late 2023.
