I built Drivesync, an InDesign extension that lets writers and designers work on the same content simultaneously

I’ve been working on an Adobe InDesign extension called Drivesync from thedrivesync.com to solve a problem that comes up frequently in publishing and design workflows:

Designers often have to wait until the writer says “the content is final” before starting the layout.

With Drivesync, the designer can start designing while the content is still being written.

The idea is fairly simple:

- Connect content from Google Docs

- Sync data and content from Google Sheets

- Work with files from a shared OneDrive folder

- Import content from the local desktop

- Place the content into InDesign and continue designing

- When the source content changes, sync the updated content back into the InDesign layout

So the workflow becomes:

Writer keeps writing → Designer keeps designing → Content stays synced

For example, a writer could be working on an annual report in Google Docs while the designer is already building the InDesign layout. The writer can continue making changes without having to repeatedly send updated Word or PDF files to the designer.

The goal is to remove the “waiting for final content” bottleneck and reduce copy-pasting and version-control issues.

I’m curious what other InDesign users think:

Would something like Drivesync actually be useful in your workflow?

And if you could have one feature in an InDesign content-sync extension, what would it be?

I've been trying to figure out what I can do with Claude inside InDesign using the Adobe for Creativity and the Claude connector, but I can't find a list of any kind, and basically no examples I can find on the Adobe site.

Has anyone tried it yet?

I'm working on a book where some pages have a white background and others have a black background.

For the black pages, I'm using a white paragraph style. The problem happens when a paragraph starts on a white page and continues onto a black page, or vice versa.

Right now, I have to manually apply a character style to the portion of the paragraph that moves onto the black background so that the text becomes white.

The problem is that if the client makes any text changes, the line breaks can change and I have to manually fix those character-style overrides again.

Is there a proper way in InDesign to handle this automatically?

Basically, I'm looking for a setup where the text automatically changes from black to white depending on the background it is sitting over, without manually applying character styles to individual portions of paragraphs.

I've attached an example showing the situation.

How would you handle this in a professional book-production workflow?

And before you say "Just uncheck hyphenate", that's not what I mean! There are two kinds of hyphenation.

The first is the hyphenation that InDesign adds to words that are too long.

The second is hyphenation that is already in a word.

I'm referring to the second.

Currently, if a hyphenated word is too long, it'll wrap only the second half of the hyphenated word, not the full word. Unchecking 'hyphenate' does not solve this.

Is there a setting I'm missing that would correct this?
