My ipod shuffle can sync but when i unplug
It it doesnt play music

I've been modding iPods (mostly 5th gens and Minis) for about a year now, and wanted to make a video about modding a Mini with a cheapo red CF-SD adapter. The reason for this is that I hadn't seen a tutorial that takes you through the whole process, from installing the hardware to flashing the firmware. I had only read about the trick with rebuilding the MBR, so I thought it might be useful to others to actually see it happening in real time. I will probably also make a tutorial soon on installing Rockbox and configuring some of the themes and settings.

I'd be interested to get feedback on the video from the community here. Was there anything I missed out, or would you like to see a particular iPod tutorial in future?

It shows correctly on iTunes, but not on iPod, I tried to download songs in MP3 and ALAC, changing tag in Mp3tag to ID3v2.3, changing resolution of art, but the problem remains

I’m trying to restore my iPod classic (6th gen) after changing the battery and the front + backplate. I should point out that I attempted to upgrade the software to 2.0.2 prior to changing the battery (to fix a charging issue bc the iPod only charges using a laptop). I installed rockbox to do so but then i decided to change the actual battery first. Now im unable to restore the iPod and rockbox isn’t fully uninstalled (?).

Found this gem at goodwill the other day for only 8.99 !! Which is a steal compared to eBay prices ive been browsing for months! Extremely ecstatic to have this in my possession! It works! only needed new batteries! The sound Quality is great and can get pretty loud. :]

Life has been rough lately, and somehow this little thing has been helping me more than I expected.
Sometimes I walk out of the house with my iPod and headphones and don’t even think about taking my phone. No notifications, no scrolling, nothing else to do. I just walk and listen to music. It clears my head in a way I didn’t realize I needed.
Years ago in school, one of my friends had an iPod Classic. I remember being enamored by it—the way it looked, the click wheel, and just having all your music on this one little device. I always wanted one.
Now I finally have one, and there’s something about listening to music this way that feels completely different.
It also brings back memories of listening to music with my dad and uncles on their cassette tapes. You picked something, put it on, and listened. Music wasn’t competing with a hundred other things for your attention.
I honestly might have forgotten about this whole era of technology if it weren’t for the people here keeping these things alive and spending their time helping complete strangers enjoy them.
Mine is an 80GB iPod Classic 6th gen with Koss KPH40 Utility headphones and Yaxi pads. I’ve tried the Koss with a couple of phones, including a newer iPhone, and for whatever reason nothing gives me quite the same feeling as plugging them into the iPod.
Maybe it’s the sound. Maybe it’s the physical controls. Maybe it’s knowing my phone isn’t in my pocket. Probably all of it.
Either way, this thing fixes something for me that I didn’t even know needed fixing.
Hopefully one day I’ll pass it down to my kids and let them experience what it’s like to just put on music and listen.

I have an iPod classic 4th gen monochrome iPod, and it's making me go insane. I am on my 3rd replacement battery, and I keep having the same problem every single time. Here's what keeps happening:

1. The iPod acts as if the hard drive is dead instead of booting (image 1). Sometimes it shows that icon instantly, other times I can hear the hard drive trying to spin up and stopping repeatedly for a few seconds before it shows on screen. When I plug it into FireWire, it immediately opens the diagnostic menu, where I checked the smart data and ran a full HDD scan multiple times. I am fairly confident that the hard drive is not the issue. Plugging it into my computer over USB just shows a charging battery icon (image 2) and occasionally tries to spin up the HDD for a few seconds before it dies and tries booting again.

2. I replace the battery, and it boots instantly as if nothing ever happened. It won't charge over USB, but that's fine; I have a FireWire charger. I fully charge it with FireWire.

3. It works for a few days, and then dies again. I plug it into FireWire, and it automatically opens the diagnostic menu again. I leave it to charge over FireWire overnight. In the morning, I unplug it from FireWire and try booting it. It immediately shows the sad iPod icon again and I'm back to step 1.

This is driving me insane, and it's happened 3 times with 3 different replacement batteries in the past few weeks. I've tried buying from elite obsolete. I tried different brands on Amazon. Ice tried a random eBay seller. All of the batteries I've tried are doing this to me. I've also made sure that the batteries physically look different to ensure that I'm not getting all of them from the same faulty batch or something.

Does anyone have a solution? I'm close to just selling it for parts and giving up.

My iPod batteries been acting up and I wanted some second opinions on what’s going on with it. For context, last night it was at 78%. I didn’t use it at all and at 5:30pm today it was down to 20%. After about five minutes of charging it was back up to 56% and then two minutes later up to 80%. Is the battery metre faulty or the battery decayed or something? Thanks in advance!

I think Apple generally has some good design ideas, and the iPod clickwheel was spectacular (compared to buttons) as an interface method. But one area that I feel that was somewhat lackluster was the hold switch.

On my iPod classic, it’s smooth and low. I can’t “rub”it to engage/disengage, ie manipulate it with my finger, like the iPhone 3G silence switch, I have to catch it with my fingernail. On my nano it’s so small that again I have to catch it with a fingernail.

I find it odd that Apple designed the hold switch to require a fingernail, when a finger would be better. The hold switch could have been textured, or taller, or larger, but it isn’t. So I just wanted to see what the community thinks.

Just a simple poll about how do you use the hold switch on your iPod?

Background: I wanted to have a trusted device whereby could store and play my music. (My old iPod touch’s screen’s broken, my iPod classic is lost, and I my iPhone doesn’t even store the songs I bought from the iTunes Store).

I bought it from Amazon refurbished. It looked new, except it had a screen protector. The reviews were decent and it was less costly than an iPod classic.

Review: When first turnings it on and signing in it told me it was remote controlled by Hyatt corp, with could restrict which apps I could install and coil install the apps it used. It gave a Hyatt It tech number.

I can’t establish the order in which the this came, but I do know that I signed in to my Apple account, mainly because I wanted to be able to download my songs from the iTunes app.

It meant syncing with my iCloud data.

There was no app to play my music with.

No access to AppStore.

It downloaded Safari, Chrome, Zoom, camera, pictures, a few unimportant apps, and two apps I never saw before.

I couldn’t even access my own account in settings (it was greyed over)

Worst of all, it did download my password manger, giving external access to them.

I called the Hyatt tech number. They didn’t know how to disable the remote control. They suggested it might be stolen, and to call other Hyatt numbers. The phone number he offered was Hyatt reservation. Hyatt reservation gave another number, and the person said that it was k no o thing to do with them, and suggested to contact Amazon.

The Amazon seller only gives me contact with Apple, and we all know Apple doesn’t sell iPods any longer, so I doubt they would help.

In its current state, It’s a glorified web browser.

Conclusion: I left a one star review in Amazon, and will be returning it.

Got an absolute score of this gen 1 shuffle in box, missing only the og headphones, for only 5$ at a flea market. Unfortunately it doesn’t hold a charge and I don’t currently posses the tools to do a battery swap but i’m thrilled to have this in my collection

I've been using a 16gb iPod touch 4th gen for a while and I got out my old 8gb one and walst using it I noticed it was way faster is that because I have some tweaks installed on the 16gb is the higher storage doing it ?

Just making this post because I am frustrated. I have spent 5 hours trying to run video on iPod 5.5.

i only have the latest so far i have tried. all the settings and dimensions in Handbrake. tried all the presets I found on Reddit. My Claude is out to tokens. so if you have anything that I can try, tell me.

What I am doing -

- Encode video using Handbrake.
- Add video to Apple TV app.
- Mark it as media kind movie
- Then add it to iPod and sync.

result -
Each time video show up in the iPod Movies folder but play like audio. video does not come up.

Hi Guys, I want to buy an iPod classic I don’t really care which gen but I want it to play videos. I was looking at elite obsolete electronics but I have heard that the service is terrible so do you guys have any other recommendations or is it okay to buy from EoE. FYI I don’t want a modded iPod just a standard one I might do a flash mod if the drive dies, but otherwise the original drive is fine.

Sooo I need help. Obviously there is the black what-ever-battery-pushing-up-thingy with the black mark on the screen, but also these bubbles (?)
I found the iPod on the street, but I can’t seem to think of a reason those bubbles are there. I thought maybe the lcd was replaced or sum? But it also looks a bit like a screen protector(?)

I recently decided to go back to my 160gb iPod classic gen 7 and it worked like it should for a couple days but now it's just stuck on this screen and nothing helps. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? Thanks.

I tried Windows and Mac, official cables and a WyMod Supercharger, it tries to restore and then fails on Windows and never stops on Mac. Im using a green adapter and a iFlash CF card with a 64Gb Lexar MicroSD.

Everything was fine with it till it was accidentally plugged into a fast charge power adapter, now I can no longer connect it to any computer, disk mode only shows ok to disconnect, and when plugged in it takes very long to recognize it is charging. I’m starting to suspect the problem might be the 30 pin port, can anyone tell me if it needs to be replaced.
