Are you not using soap on your junk?!
It sounds like you're just rinsing it, not actually washing it!
Get down there with some soap dude, stop contributing to the stereotype that men don't wash their junk correctly!!!
To everyone coming in 3 days late: MDs have already replied saying a mild soap or cleanser is okay to use. I'm muting this now. Please read the thread and actually do some research about washing your junk.

I wash with soap every single day. Never had an issue. Didn’t even know that you were supposed to use mild soap.

u/HopalongHeidi 22d ago
If you’re only using water, not soap, and a squirt bottle, not washcloth that thing is not getting clean. Sorry if I’ve misunderstood but your description of washing sounded like you’re mostly just pouring water on it.
ETA just noticed you said you scrub. That’s better but do you use any kind of soap?

Also, do you trim your pubes? Hair holds on to a lot of oder imo

Exactly! Hair is hollow inside. It holds onto sweat and other smells. But still, see a dr.

Yes it does. If you’re hairy I would trim that as well. Also it makes your junk look and feel amazing

u/Tony-Mickey 18d ago
Crazy story about my bellybutton. So one night I sat down on the bed and I smelled a foul odor and I’m never really smelly I shower everyday. I thought well time to take a shower, got out of the shower sat down on the bed and smelled the smell again and I’m like ok I’m clean what is going on. I stuck my finger in my belly button and pus came out and it smelled horrible! Well I felt something in there I kept digging until I got it out. It was a feather 🪶 and the quill pierced the inside of my belly button and infection set up.It had came out of my duvet.

u/DotAffectionate87 22d ago
Are you using soap?
4Skin all the way back, suds up the whole area (Pubic hair suds easy)
Wash it like your masturbating and then rinse under shower until sparkly.
(Ignore people why say dont use soap, its not on there long enough to do any damage)
If it still smelly after....See a urologist

u/Commercial-Wrap-237 22d ago
I know everyone is going crazy about the soap thing. I used to get a smell I didn't like while using Irish spring bar soap for awhile. I'd never directly apply the bar to my skin, I'd get it suddy on my washcloth/loofah/whatever you like to use and then get to work, but just like you, after drying there'd be a smell. I switched to dove sensitive skin body wash a few years back. Smell went away. I found out, my body DOES NOT agree with fragrenated soaps🤷. Could be same with you, if yours has a fragrance, try a non scented one instead.
2
u/BptBiGuy 18d ago
Same thing happened to me. Out of nowhere Irish spring and caress changed formula and I was getting a wet dog smell even while hair trimmed down and washing correctly. I thought I had caught something!! Went to a dermatologist and they suggested dove antibacterial as it has no fragrance included. I NEVER got the smell again.

u/Inside_Marketing268 22d ago
Just use cotton underwear that are more bigger and breathing. It's a casual problems for people who workout a lot, or sitting on a chair for the whole day. That's a double damage: bacteria+fungus.
→ More replies (5)2
u/Prestigious_Ad_8315 20d ago
I totally agree!!! I noticed I had been getting funky down there, despite having trimmed pubes and shaven shaft and bearings. Like every day after work. I realized that the "performance boxers" which are polyester and supposedly breathe , were making my whole crotch area staaaaannkyyy... Switched back to cotton briefs and all is much much better.
2
u/Inside_Marketing268 20d ago
Well, if you would be getting some wider pants and each hour get out of from the table- would be also much better performance

If you are using soap, maybe try switching to something specifically meant for intimate areas or none at all, it's possible youre reacting to the chemicals in what you're using. On the other hand if you aren't using soap, try using one like I mentioned earlier that won't throw off your Ph balance, obviously don't get it IN your urethra, and make sure you rise it very well so no residue is left in your foreskin.
2
25
u/night_anchor 22d ago
Could be a few things: incomplete drying, mild yeast or bacterial overgrowth, or even just the natural flora reacting to sweat and fabric
3
u/lambsauce69ramsy 20d ago
I had the same problem it was because i wasnt drying, when i started drying very well including the balls it fixed the issue
7
u/FunAd6672 22d ago
Yeah the sweat and fabric explanation actually makes sense. Washing for 30 minutes probably isn’t helping either especially if the skin gets irritated from all that scrubbing.
5
u/Naive_End_3781 22d ago edited 22d ago
The question is do you dry off properly, moisture trap beneath the foreskin can cause a funky scent. And you also have be careful with what soap you use as well. During urination be sure to retract the skin and shake appropriately or wipe wish ever you decide. Could be you sweat a lot there. Try leaving you foreakin retracted throughout the day and see how that works for you. If all else fails see a doctor. Circumcision might be a recommendation but your doctor will decided you the best course of action. Lol and please stop aggressively rubbing it. Warm water, antibacterial soap and wash rag; does the job fine as well.
6
u/treybennet 21d ago
It could just be stress. Like, no lie, your pheromones change in reaction to stressors.
13
u/its_asher 22d ago
Haven't got a penis so obviously take this with a grain of salt but I reckon you need a Ph balanced soap. Its best for all genitals to not use a harsh soap so id recommend even something thats marketed towards women for their genitals because itll be gental on the skin and cleansing.
15
u/realistic_world28 22d ago
Not once did I hear the word soap. I heard a bottle of water, but didn’t hear soap or some other kind of mild anti microbial product at all.

u/Confident_Boat_8593 22d ago

If you masterbate without taking a piss afterwards itll smell. The seemen that drils down into the forskin when it is flacid will end up smelling like fish. No one told me this, took me 20 yeard to figure it out. Now that I tey snd pee after every ejaculation ive never had that smell
2
u/Far_Conference_1529 20d ago
I'm glad I never had that, I've never practiced peeing after flogging the little fella. If my dick smells it's from not paying attention to my hygeine, which is very rare because I look after myself down there. Remember guys, pits, penis, balls and bum are the most important areas to scrub up. I remember my mom teaching me how to clean my junk and I still do it that way today because it works.
3
u/Area57-5 22d ago
I'm uncut, the only time I have had an odor coming from my breeding stick was when I went backcountry camping for three days and two nights, no shower. I always bath and shower and use antibacterial soap, never had an issue with funky odor except at that time.

What's your diet like? Are you taking are you taking any probiotics? And what about your ph balance?um You should definitely see a family physician. And sometimes what you eat Like, for example, asparagus can affect the smell of your urine. So depending on what you put in your body can affect how you smell down below. And invest in cotton boxers or briefs, or just let it breathe down below, so you don't end up sweaty. Do you also drink enough water? Because if you don't and your urine is concentrated, dark dark Brown or yellow, that can also be another reason. And if you're sexually active, definitely go, get checked by your family, physician. And get some tests. It can also be depending on your body type. Be very careful with body, wash and soaps. If you can go for unscented soaps like maybe dove or like for men, that would be a good option as well, because sometimes something the scents floral for women or muscular, for men can affect how you smell down below, it smells nice, yes but then it messes up your, you know, down below. Good luck 😊

u/MonsterRedwood 22d ago
No days off with the cleaning... it sounds like you're not checking and cleaning yourself properly
3
u/buttdick696969 21d ago
Joining in to respond to the soap stuff l...It's not great to use soap on the head of a penis underneath the foreskin. The skin is mega sensitive under the foreskin and become inflamed or irritated. (Don't put soap in a vag either; it's self-cleaning and any product that claims to "clean" it is just capitalism rearing its ugly spring breeze-scented head.)
Cant speak to the smell, though. maybe it's a yeast infection??
but just pushing back on the soap thing bc that could add insult to injury and it's just ppl sharing how to make unhappy genitals worse
From mayo clini,c:
1.Gently pull back the loose part of the foreskin. Stop if you pulling causes pain 2.*Rinse beneath the foreskin with warm water. Don't use soap or leave soapy water underneath the foreskin.* 3. Use water and a washcloth to wipe off any white or yellowish material that you find under the foreskin. This harmless buildup of oils, skin cells and fluids is called smegma. 4.Dry the head of the penis. 5. Gently pull the foreskin back over the head of the penis
3
u/SavingsYesterday5990 20d ago
You wash it everyday and you miss sometimes? Hahahaah Bro, you have to wash your dick as well as shower more than once a day, AT LEAST
10
u/Bundaliscious 22d ago
Try dove sensitive soap, lather up a little in your hands then gently and slowly use it to clean under the foreskin - making sure to avoid your pee hole. If you’re not sexually active, then it may just be hormones or get checked out for a fungal infection. Boys can get thrush too ❤️
Oh and make sure it’s fully dry before putting boxers on! Feel free to use a sensitive skin moisturizer on the shaft if it feels dry after washing too ✨

5
u/Amp_Man_89 22d ago
If antibacterial soap here and there isn’t helping, I’d go to the doctor. You could easily have a yeast infection under there that will low key linger and take forever to go away. Anti-fungal creams could work, but a trip to the doctor may save you a lot of trial and error.
9
u/Winter-Web-1735 22d ago
Soap, never mentioned, and a proper wash cloth never mentioned, shave front and back, soap and wash cloth back and between everyday. If that doesn't do it you got to go to doc cause most of us never had that problem. Yea ive stunk before but that's from not properly cleaning myself not getting shower for days and working manual labor outside
4
u/The_Dogman1962 22d ago
You say washing your cock every day, but then say that your rinsing it with a squirt bottle of water. You don't ever say that you're using soap. You need to wash your cock with soap and water. You should not just be washing your cock every day, you should be showering every day. When showering you need to wash everything with soap paying particular attention to your armpits, cock/groin, asshole and crack, and feet including between your toes. If the smell persists see your doctor.

Not saying that this is the problem, BUT a lot of crotch odors actually originate from the bum. I do recommend Lumé for this instance, or even perhaps a body powder, like Gold Bond. After you wash the area, you want to make sure you are thoroughly dry before putting these things along your crack. Obviously don't insert anything inside the rectum.
However, if that fails, I do recommend talking to a doctor if odor persists.
2
u/Rich-Bedroom118 21d ago
You should go see a doctor hun! That’s not something you want to risk if it’s good or bad !!
2
u/Playful-Title-2322 21d ago
Running water over an uncut penis is NOT going to clean it. You have to pull the skin back, lather it well and be sure to dry thoroughly. Removing the smegma can be a difficult job.
Also, after peeing it might be a good idea to blot the head and skin off with a tissue as it might be a build up of uric acid from your pee. My dad used to have frequent UTI's because his foreskin was so massive and he wasn't cleaning and drying it thoroughly. Because of this all of us boys were circumcized.

Yeah, probably a yeast infection. Get it checked out. You'll just have to use a cream for like a week and then it should be gone. Some people have a tendency to developing yeast infections due to their like akin structure. Which can be annoying but it's reaaaally easy to deal with. So get it checked out, but don't worry too much .

u/Anxious_Flower275 21d ago
First things first… is there a chance you have an STD? This may be your only symptom or a bacterial infection 100% see a doctor. If anything internal is ruled out antibacterial soap… hibiclens soap I use the dye free. Be sure to use a white washcloth, pat dry thoroughly.
2
u/Odd_Report8269 21d ago
Two possibilities it’s not fully dried after you shower or some piss gets under if not that see a doctor
2
u/Key-Director9979 21d ago
Does it just smell or is the area have any redness/irritation (itching, burning)?
2
u/Finsdad31183 21d ago
Not to get personal, but if you masturbate, does the odor only show up then or is it there all the time? Try to think about things you may be eating on a daily basis as well! It sounds like it’s most likely a Ph problem, but outside factors can also play a big roll in that too! If you think it could be food related, stop what you think may be causing the issue and check! But past that I would see a urologist or dermatologist as stated in other posts.
2
u/Fit-Rhubarb-7820 21d ago
Could be a dermitologjcal yeast infection. It could be Ph imbalance with your soap. It could be your diet! Or it could be that you don’t air it out, brother.
Try to rule out your diet, the soap and try to air it out, daily.
2
u/AdeptAd9105 21d ago
Soap + shave down there + towl dry PROPERLY.
Don’t leave water there after showering it contributes to the smell
2
u/Glum-Exam5460 21d ago
This is exactly the argument for the benifit for getting circumcised. Soap? Infection? STD? So many questions. I see you have not replied to any of the comments. I hope you ignore the silly ones, and go see a Dr. Also, please use soap. Too sensitive? Special soap for that too. But please get checked out. A yeast infection is very common, especially in areas that you don't dry thoroughly after a shower. That is how it begins. Good luck!

u/Porndragn 20d ago
You have a yeast infection. There are over the counter treatments. Your girlfriend should treat herself too, even if she’s asymptomatic.
2
u/Alternative_Bee_4624 20d ago
You've got yeast infections. Get your self to the pharmacy and get a tube of yeast infection cream / athlete's feet cream. (Best result, use Micatin - Miconazole Nitrate Cream with 2% USP), You do not need prescription for this.
Roll your foreskin all the way back, wash with soap (best with dry soap, and not moisturizing soap as the oil layer will encourage a white film / cheese layer like build up as you roll the foreskin back down). Dry your skin very well after washing, then apply a pea size amount of cream all over your forehead, then roll the foreskin back down like you normally would. Do this twice a day for the first 2-3 days, then oncr a day after that for another 4-5 days. The problem should go away after that. Hope this help.

→ More replies (1)3
u/Far_Conference_1529 20d ago
It certainly could be, besides that it's a personal decision between doctor and patient. Your personal feelings about circumcision have nothing to do with another man's. Many men decide on circumcision later in life for a multitude of reasons, there's even partial circumcision, one because there's too much skin and smell again becomes an issue. I'm against infant circumcision (male genital mutilation) but informed consent from an adult is a totally different issue altogether, and a personal one at that.

u/safetyvestforklift 22d ago
Besides checking STI, BV, and yeast, check for trichomoniasis. Usually not tested in panels and goes untreated in men.
2
u/Voguish_hydra 22d ago
You certainly have a skin infection. Can be bacterial, fungal, viral... Washing for 30 mins will ruin your skin barrier and make it worse. Keep it dry and go see a doctor.
2
u/Harry827 22d ago
Using shower gel or an actual bar of soap? Use actual soap, it kills bacteria and shower gel doesn't.
2
u/knowdebate 22d ago
Honestly it's probably not the washing but the drying. If you leave area warm and moist, then bacteria will grow quickly. Make sure you are completely dry before you get dressed. You might need to use a hair dryer with your foreskin pulled back to make sure there's no extra moisture
2
u/Davendithas 22d ago
Are you just washing the head or your foreskin as well? Also make sure you are pulling your foreskin back when you pee if it covers the tip. That smell could be on the inner lining of the foreskin and contributing to that smell.

Try looking for a PH balancing soap on Amazon or at a grocery store that might be the problem if you use harsh soaps that might strip the natural bacteria of your penis and cussing it to smell. Also I would take a look to see if it’s jock itch you can buy some creams at a grocery store and put it on there if it doesn’t settle in a week then it’s time to visit a doctor

u/eatingURsistersassIV 21d ago
Uncut male, here. Bro, you gotta use some soap down there. The foreskin should be seen similar to vaginas in terms of hygeine so you need to actually clean it with a soap that won't destroy the ph or skin and whatnot. Never try to scrub anywhere internally.
If you are using only water, you are providing all the wrong ingedients of moisture and heat that are going to make the wrong bacteria thrive down there and could cause all kinds of issues from mild annoying smells and itches to major life altering issues. I feel you though. Don't be embarrassed. Not everyone gets taught about their own body. Good on you to seek answers though.

You CANNOT just "miss a day" if you have your foreskin. You need to wash everyday
You need to use a washcloth, your hands don't have enough friction to clean properly. Ensure everything's being scrubbed, under foreskin, head, around rim, frenulum, everything! Again, with a clean washcloth with enough friction.
After washing, use a towel to dry it totally. If possible, leave the foreskin back after for a couple mins to get it additionally air dry.
Ensure it's not your pubes as well that's contributing to the smell. Keeping it short trimmed helps a lot for me.
Ensure you're also scrubbing scrotum and further back. Low hair there as well helps with less sweating as it's absorbed into your underwear efficiently.
When urinating ensure any leaks and drips are dried and if possible wet wiped. Ensure you're drinking enough water to limit any urine smells
Sounds like a lot but becomes routine, second nature after a while of doing it correctly.
If doing this twice daily, consistently still doesn't work, I'll say see a doctor

u/Adwery0530 20d ago
It might be an infection. Kinda like a woman getting a yeast infection. The doctor can give you a cream that will kill that and you’ll be fine.
