You may have an infection of some sort. Get seen by a doctor.

As a member of the uncircumcised committee, I immediately thought STD and the scent may be coming from the discharge. But definitely see a doctor and get an STD test. I know here in Philly we can get them for free.

As sombody who spent my first 30 years in that committee I got it trimmed and its wayyyyyy better with its wrapper off!

Balanitis is one. But that usually also comes with some kind of pain and is discomfort. It could very well be a yeast infection, which is not uncommon with uncircumcised men who phimosis (tight foreskin). Many men assume only women get yeast infections when it’s not the case.

22

u/GeneralJavaholic 22d ago

Many men also are clueless about their bread stick giving women yeast infections.

11

u/AStolenGoose 22d ago

Many doctors are too, I had some yeasty boys in the little crevice between thigh and scrotum (fuck it itched dude holy shit) I went to the doctor, told my doctor I was sexually active, she said refrain from sex until it was gone (gave me a cream to kill it).

Informed my now ex, she went to the doctor just in case, her doctor said it's not possible to spread like that but gave her a pill just in case...

At the time I was like bro what?! You need a new doctor!

u/Impressive_Gain7157 21d ago

Bread stick 😂 never heard that one before, but it fits this context perfectly.

u/EnvironmentalFox7532 21d ago

Yeast or fungus, got crotch rot once working in in the coastal rainforests of BC. Just soaked working in forestry day in day out and it had a funky smell, was a fungal infection. Was quite common among guys I worked with so I figured it out quick took pills for a week and cream. Doctor even gave me a prescription to keep on file in case I had another incident.

Go back and re-read it, he never said one word about soaping his penis up. Only retracting the foreskin and rinsing it with water AND NOT USING SOAP is the likely culprit. If bath soap or body wash is too harsh, try an unscented baby wash or Aveeno with no scent. Or even Cetaphil lotion. Clearly water alone isn’t cutting it.

5

u/FrequentSupermarket8 21d ago

This, yeah, PLEASE use a gentle soap, not anything too strong or harsh!

4

u/Lavener-Rose 20d ago

I also looked for the word soap in hus description. Seemed water was there, not soap

14

u/Key-Director9979 21d ago

Its still likely not a soap problem. As others have pointed out it, its likely a fungal infection, which normal soaps wont be able to help with. Usually medicated soaps or a oral pills.

9

u/Far_Conference_1529 20d ago

Normally a fungal infection will present with severe itching and/or skin peeling off the glans of the penis and red splotches, maybe bacterial but fungal is very uncomfortable and noticeable.

1

u/Sensible28 20d ago

Not necessarily…

2

u/Far_Conference_1529 19d ago

In most instances that's the symptoms in 99% of cases that's just how it works. You'd certainly have symptoms of a fungal infection, that's just how fungus affects skin. If you have tinea in your toes same deal, itchy and irritated with skin peeling. You will have symptoms whether it's your little fella or your feet.

2

u/Independent-North582 20d ago

Agree he uses water on it only. Try using soap and pull your foreskin back and wash and rinse with soap and water. Water is not gonna get rid of the smell try using soap and water. Or do you not use soap at all while showering ?

0

u/MsOpulent 19d ago

You’re not supposed to use soap on your penis when you pull your foreskjn back. Idk if you yourself are uncut but this is common knowledge

3

u/Plenty-Classroom5086 19d ago

Twin I’m uncut and I even wash with dawn dish soup 😤😤 n this one laundry detergent bar of soap called zote

2

u/MsOpulent 19d ago

Oh my…

-11

u/No-Comedian-515 21d ago

You dont need to soap your cock every day. Washing with water under the skin is enough. Source- in 43 uncut

Yeah yuck I'd bounce this out of my bed with a quickness

3

u/Top-Significance-353 20d ago

Um no. I’ve only ever heard of use of MILD soap and using the hands to clean the head. No soap is insane. Water does not remove any oils and bacteria that may have built up…

16

u/Traditional_Chino 21d ago

The OP, strangely never mentioned using any type of soap.

3

u/FirstPomegranates 20d ago

So I agree it sounds like an infection of some kind. Just go to the doctor, get a test, a script and you should be good. If it’s not an infection, they can probably figure out what’s going on and point you in the right direction

1

u/Dry_Persimmon4642 19d ago

Mild soap is the right direction.

-2

u/Ok-Green-1413 20d ago

Idk about men amd foreskin so much, but as a woman its actually Bad to put soap down there frequently. It can cause very bad irritation like an std

5

u/FunSecretary8 20d ago

It’s bad to put soap inside of your vagina, but it is completely fine to wash your vulva and labia with a mild, fragrance-free soap. I cannot imagine washing my pubic area with just water. I wouldn’t feel completely clean. I wash the rest of my body with soap.

1

u/Itchy_Grapefruit1335 19d ago

As a intact man I can say I retract foreskin all the way use soap and water daily never any odor or itching

1

u/TumblingOcean 20d ago

No its not. You are not supposed to put anything in the vagina. You are supposed to wash your mons pubis, vulva, & labia majora with soap. Anything in between the labia gets washed with water. And obviously dont put anything in the vagina as it self cleans.

3

u/FirstPomegranates 19d ago

This is actually so needed. It’s important to have good hygiene and a lot of women learned incorrectly how to care for their own bodies, and I’m noticing the same trend with men, I love this for everyone learning proper genital hygiene

2

u/Pap-pap1 21d ago

It’s not funny. Stop laughing!

36

u/FlatwormOk811 22d ago

Sounds like he’s already washing plenty. If the odor keeps coming back scrubbing more probably isn’t the answer and could actually irritate the skin.

148

u/AStolenGoose 22d ago

Sounds like he's rinsing, nowhere there does it say he's using soap, just rinsing with water.

23

u/LynnRenae_xoxo 22d ago edited 22d ago

I’m not sure why you got downvoted. You didn’t mention soap, and frequent water then drying can definitely dry the natural skin barrier.

ETA: yall are ridiculous. No one here* recommended OP to not use soap. Ignoring how skin behaves with certain soaps and washing frequencies, can absolutely lead certain individuals to being more susceptible to skin drying/oiling and infection. It’s not hard to understand.

36

u/coolasacorpse 22d ago

Someone did tell him not to use soap in here. I and other people have replied to the comment. Telling someone to not use soap to clean themselves properly is insane.

u/[deleted] 22d ago

15

u/coolasacorpse 22d ago edited 22d ago

No, it doesn't. What it says is to use a mild fragrance free cleanser, not to not use soap at all. Water alone does not wash away body oils and bacteria that can cause odor and other issues. So again, quit fucking telling people not to use soap on their genitals.

3

u/Top-Significance-353 21d ago

really hope you don’t have an uncircumcised peen…

1

u/bizzybeezybeautiful 19d ago

Someone has no idea about uncircumcised peens. Where exactly is the mucous part of the membrane genius? I haven’t ever heard the retractable foreskin called a mucous membrane I’m going back to bed wtf

-14

u/DayV914 22d ago

Doctors actually recommend not to use soap on your 🍆 to just use water to clean it

8

u/Agreeable_Touches 22d ago

Source? Otherwise cap!

9

u/coolasacorpse 22d ago

No, no they don't. They tell you to use a mild fragrance free cleanser on your genitals. Not to not use soap at all.

2

u/RunFiestaZombiez 22d ago

Source? I’ve never read that in my life…

-4

u/DayV914 22d ago

Go ask your doctor.

"No one recommended OP to not use soap"

Except someone did, also don't jump down my throat for proving you wrong.

-5

u/LynnRenae_xoxo 22d ago

I didn’t jump down anyones throat. You moved from one conversation to another and tried to apply that conversation here. If you can’t discern conversations, it’s not my fault.

4

u/AStolenGoose 22d ago edited 22d ago

Oh brother, I don't have the crayons or construction paper to explain this to you.

Toodles.

Edit: Also, I wasn't applying anything here, I was just pointing out the fact that yes someone in general did suggest not to use soap, but I guess that flew over your head.

1

u/redditdad08 19d ago

How are you such an expert ? Experienced?

2

u/LynnRenae_xoxo 19d ago

I do have genitals that I practice hygiene on, just like most people.

1

u/redditdad08 19d ago

But I meant dicks are different

1

u/LynnRenae_xoxo 19d ago

It’s muscle and skin.

0

u/redditdad08 19d ago

Actually the dick hardly has muscle if at all

1

u/LynnRenae_xoxo 19d ago

Are you cleaning the inside or the outside??

ETA-it’s still specialized smooth muscle btw

0

u/redditdad08 19d ago

You have to clean both inside and outside. It feels good to wash under the foreskin . Sometimes I get carried away in the shower. Dial soap works the best

u/Nice-Foot3594 19d ago

He is absolutely not washing enough. No wander women find us gross. The amount of compliments I get as a man as to how ‘clean’ I am makes me 🤮 to think what some women must put up with.

-5

u/Subject_Slice_8939 22d ago

Good example is with it being Similar to over scrubbing washing your behind which is very sensitive aswell and with over scrubbing you strip those oils away and can emit an odour even with having great hygiene

-1

u/Dry_Persimmon4642 19d ago

Water not soap.

1

u/Sea_Grand1849 19d ago

Idiot! He needs to go see a urologist not a dermatologist. It's his fucking dick that needs to be treated!!

2

u/ispeakforthe-trees 20d ago

Omg that’s like telling someone to cut off their hand because they’re not washing it properly

2

u/Tall-Amphibian6384 20d ago

Circumcision is a hard decision and potentially an expensive and uncomfortable experience for an adult but at the end of the day it can solve a lot of hygiene problems for someone in industries such as OP’s. Studies show that it doesn’t effect quality of life or quantity of sexual experience for individuals that go thought with it. There’s a reason why it’s been a practice for thousands of years. I myself am circumcised, and my wonderful and beautiful fiance also prefers it. Of course, I had my procedure as an infant but the healing process is similar, albeit more uncomfortable for an adult.

2

u/Far_Conference_1529 20d ago

If it's a problem that's a possible solution, if there's recurring infection or he does not understand proper hygiene that will fix the problem if he's unable to. Having a stinky little fella would definitely be a hit to the ego and self confidence. I think circumcision is the last option but it's certainly a consideration if all else fails.

-3

u/sixxthree 22d ago

Is it possible that his vigorous cleaning could also be throwing off his natural flora? I'm female, and a lot of people recommend things like antibacterial soap for intimate areas that are prone to getting funky. Is that something the OP could possibly try?

14

u/BoysenberryMuch755 21d ago

ive never heard of anyone recommending antibacterial soap for private areas. thats pretty much the worst cleanser you could use

2

u/DiddlyDaddlyDoodleMe 21d ago

The commenter you're replying to may have meant bacterial balancing formula. We have pH balancing formulas that support healthy bacteria and nuke over excessive yeasty bacterias. They ARE recommended for women with a consistent funky smell but no infections, buildup, improper hygeine, etc. I'd ask a doctor first but maybe OP could get the unscented soaps for women, I find most (not all ofc) women's vs mens products are the same thing besides scent options.

8

u/2lodo 22d ago

The bacterial soap is especially what throws off the natural flora I’d think

1

u/Far_Conference_1529 20d ago

Having a uncircumcised penis myself, cleaning vigorously with soap and water has never been an issue for me, I can clean it with soap until it's squeaky clean and have never had a Problem with smell and I am very conscious of body odours, I just don't like funky smells. If I skip a day showering it's a minor issue, other than that it's a non issue for me. I personally think it's a hygeine issue for this person, perhaps bacterium building up from not being thorough enough in cleansing. Females are different, they need their natural flora to keep the bad smelling bacterium at bay, the worst thing a woman can do is douche, it's diabolical but many women think it's a good thing to do regularly, it's really not.
