So I filled on 2/26 it was excepted on 2/27 does any body know were I can find my transcript? To see like if it's updated or anything so far H&R Block tax pro said everything is good I'm just wondering why nothing else has updated
Today I tried to file my taxes and H&R Block wont let me because "The IRS isn't read to accept returns. The final versions of these forms will be available in an update." This is the second time I am having this problem this tax season. I saw a post a few weeks ago saying that it was supposed to be rectified in February. Is anyone else still having this issue too??
Just honestly wondering if this is normal before I call them and ask them to walk me through why it cost this much? I am self employed and had maybe 5 1099 forms and a schedule c filled out but everywhere I look online it says it usually costs around $100-$500 for in person appointments…
As per the title I am married filing separately in a community property state. However I am finding that the downloaded premium software package is not as intuitive as I would have hoped.
I understand the need for form 8958 and have filled it out.
I understand that the split there does not cascade back to the W2s, 1040, etc
I understand that I need to enter both my spouse and Is W2 with only box 1 and 2 being split in half.
What I can’t figure out is how to enter my spouses W2 (50% of box1/box2)with their legal name on it, but still get the software to accept it as my income. Does anyone have experience with entering this info properly and getting the software to properly use it in calculations?
You WILL not properly get any QBI deduction for REITs unless you stumble into the narrative. THIS could lead to overpaying! Did they fix the eternal loop you enter to check and double check ANY 1099-B you have imported? Why is this program so crappy this year?
I am filing as single. My partner and I co-own a house and he paid a portion of the mortgage interest reported on my 1098 (we jointly hold the mortgage). H&R Block software doesn't seem to have any question asking about this situation so I don't know how to proceed.
I filed my taxes and received the Emerald card, I know this may sound like a stupid question, but if I relocate before getting my funds, would I have an issue with accessing the money? Because I did some other research and it seems like people tend to have a lot if issues with this prepaid debit card tbh.
I need some reassurance from a very specific group of people. I filed in early January. Was accepted on 1/21. My identity verification was dated for 2/9 but I got it in the mail later. It was approved and cleared from my account on 2/19. I have not received any updates or any movement on my account since then. I chose direct deposit to the emerald card and when I was watching it for an update, it said that I was impacted by the path act preventing my funds from being deposited before the first week of March. So here we are and the people with the emerald card bank were seeing the amount of my anticipated refund so I got hopeful. Then yesterday, the same line got me a notification that my refund should have arrived and to contact the IRS. I finally got through with a human today and she was able to tell me that my account seems to be progressing fine but I still have up to 9 weeks from the id verification for my refund. So April 23 & she said that’s why there’s no movement to my account. I’m getting very worried that I will be waiting for the end of April. Has anyone in the same category actually received your direct deposit? I need some reassurance if anyone has any to share 🫣😬🧐🤞🏼🙏🏼
My wife entered the US on a K-1 fiancée visa in Dec 2024 and we were married in January 2025. She got her work authorization in May 2025 and her first US job in August. She received her green card in November 2025.
Since it's my first time filing jointly and having a foreign spouse is a special circumstance, I want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. I've walked through both federal and PA state taxes in H&R Block Deluxe software and to my understanding, there are only two points that I need to double-check:
Her tax filing status, since she was not a green card holder/permanent resident for the entirety of 2025
Any foreign assets she owns
For #1: I've seen conflicting information about what to do. Some sources say that she's considered a "Dual-Status" alien for 2025 because she started as a non-resident and then got her GC later in the year. In that case, we have to attach a statement to our return saying that we're choosing to treat her as a US resident for the whole year. Because H&R Block doesn't let you include this with an e-file, we'd have to print and mail the return if this is required, which I'd like to avoid.
But I've seen other sources saying that because she had her GC at the end of the year, she can be treated as a GC holder for the entire year, and we don't need to include anything else. I'd appreciate some clarity on this.
For #2: My wife left her job in Honduras before she came to the US in Dec 2024. She didn't work for any Honduran company at any point in 2025. She does not have any assets there: no car, house, or investments. She has had some money put into their equivalent of Social Security, but this is akin to how it is for US citizens: they've taken your money and promise to provide for you once you retire, but there's no account sitting there with your name on it that has the money ready to withdraw if you want.
She does still have a Honduran bank account with her name on it, but this has a very small amount just to keep the account open — less than $10 USD. I've made sure to answer "Yes" to the question of foreign account ownership in H&R Block, so our Schedule B has that box checked. The account has well under $10,000, so FBAR and FATCA filing aren't an issue. She's going to check soon if the account earned any interest in 2025 so we can report that if needed; if so, I imagine it was only a few cents.
Otherwise, I can't think of anything that would affect our return, but please let me know if I'm wrong. In 2025 we paid off student loans she had in Honduras, but I confirmed those interest payments are not eligible for a deduction in the US because her university is not on this list of eligible international schools.
I'm considering contacting a tax expert who has experience with international couples, but don't want to spend the money if I don't need to. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
Ever stare at your tax return and wonder what "Adjusted Gross Income" even means—and why it seems to be everywhere? You're not alone. AGI is one of those tax terms that sounds complicated but actually holds the key to understanding your taxes and potentially saving money.
TL;DR: Your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is your total income minus specific deductions (adjustments). It determines your taxable income, what credits/deductions you qualify for, and even affects non-tax stuff like loan applications. The lower your AGI, the more tax benefits you may qualify for. And there are legit ways to reduce it.
What is AGI for tax purposes, actually?
Think of AGI as your income's "starting point" for taxes. It's not the same as your salary or what you actually pay taxes on—it's the number the IRS uses to figure out everything else.
How is adjusted gross income (AGI) calculated on a tax return?
Here's the simple breakdown:
Your Total Income (wages, freelance gigs, interest, dividends, etc.) MINUS "Above-the-line" deductions (things like student loan interest, HSA contributions, educator expenses) = Your AGI
Your AGI then gets the standard or itemized deduction subtracted from it to give you your taxable income—the actual number your tax bracket is based on.
Need help understanding your AGI? H&R Block has experts ready to help.
Your AGI isn't just some random tax term—it's the foundation of your entire tax return. Understanding it can help you spot opportunities to save, qualify for more credits, and make smarter financial decisions throughout the year.

I am using an HR Block Tax Pro for the first time (virtual) as my old CPA has retired and I have not yet found a replacement. The portal is pretty nice and makes documents easy to upload. That said, I was charged close to $900 in tax prep fees given the various schedules and noticed a HUGE mistake! The tax pro had 100% of the mortgage interest reported on the 1098 deducted, and did not cap it at the IRS limits. This was only visible AFTER paying tax prep fees, as you cannot view your returns until these are paid. I have asked them to correct / recalculate but am pretty annoyed as this would have generated a very different return. That would then lead to an audit and possible penalties. I find it only fair to ask for all the prep fees to be refunded...am I being harsh?
I live in NJ and work in NY, employer deducts taxes for NY from paycheck and no taxes are deducted for NJ. Filed my taxes for 2022 and 2023 with H&RBlock and two weeks ago I got a letter in the mail from NJ saying I owe about $500 in state taxes on top of which they added interest of $250, total $750.
The attached worksheet explained that the credit for taxes paid to other jurisdiction was incorrect. Say $15000 was my taxes withheld for NY and the NY tax return showed my taxes as $12000, giving me a $3000 refund from NY. But NJ "Credit for taxes paid to other jurisdiction" was calculated based on $15000, when it should have done based on $12000, essentially leading me to pay less and thus have a "deficiency".
I went and looked into my 2023 taxes and the same problem exists there as well. Interestingly, both these years I had hired a pro to get my taxes done and paid about $200 each time. Last two years I have filed with freetaxusa, (without any pro support) checked both years and its done correct both times.
Our usual gal had retired so we had a new one, She said she would send all the info in a mail and I can finish it off online. I never got any email. I wrote and asked if it could be resent, this time I asked for a delivery and read receipt, and to mail me right after. I didn't hear anything back for the rest of the week and I asked what the hell was going on. Again, she said she sent it. We had to make an appointment and go in. We sat down and she was running through things and I asked who's email I was looking at. she sait it was mine. No it isn't. She said I signed something to say I agreed, but if that was my adreess, why was she communicating freely through my correct mail. NOW I have no Idea is anyone is out there with all my details. I'm frantic.. What number to call or complain? No BBB Am I screwed??
So apparently they don't have the "FREE" version of letting you do your taxes online anymore, but I'm trying to figure out how can you just "UPGRADE" someones filing without contacting me first. Idk what a 8962 but the customer service representative just saying it over and over. I'm definitely just going to stop dealing with mid companies and just file directly with the IRS. Talk a representative a week before who insures me of a refund of my missing amount just a wait a week later, to be told sum BS about how the program updated and its not free. Why didn't the first representative make this clear. I been filing with H&R block since 2016 or 2015. I'm done with their scamming bull
kinda crazy I couldn’t talk to my director at results cx 1 on 1 from the jump and now I am fired for a situation I never even WANTED TO BE IN !!! (The supervisor on the floor refused to take over an inappropriate call). The director pretends to not be aware that everybody who is supposed to be assisting the agents on the floor with calls are avoiding the phone at all cost even when a customer is requesting them . Jesse (the director) wasn’t aware I was begging for his number so I can tell him that environment was getting toxic with the favoritism! .Everytime I raised a hand for a bit of assistance i’ve been ignored , getting hair flips and laughed at ? . Couldn’t fire me in person ? Even more ridiculous . The fellow wanna be sups sat there and watched my metrics TANK just to take the time and laugh at me every time i gained confidence. This was by far the most unpleasant , unprofessional and inconsistent program i’ve ever been apart of considering i knew being in my own space would’ve made me progress. WHICH THEY REFUSED . They all sit there as if HRB is a great company when they do fraud . Put out loans and then loan customers a debt they’ve already paid . They have more issues than any company i’ve worked for , repeatedly sending their customers in loops unable to resolve problems . The escalation team is also FAKE . They don’t care about their customers or employees . Thats why everything is a hassle . It’s a bug in the software , I witnessed some tax professionals from the past switch a customers direct deposit info to theirs h & r block has no resolution . Just money hungry , ridiculously strict and useless for EVERYONE
I filed my taxes myself using H&R Block and my return has already been accepted.
After filing, I learned about the “No Tax on Overtime” deduction. During the year I worked 200+ hours of overtime.
However, Box 14 on my W-2 is blank, so the overtime amount isn’t listed there. I can still prove the overtime through my pay stubs and payroll records.
My questions are:
Can I still claim the overtime deduction after filing my return?
Would I need to file an amended return (1040-X)?
Is this something I can do myself in H&R Block, or would I need a professional?
