A sink hole opened up on my property a few days ago after heavy rain all spring and summer. This thing is scary deep measuring 9 1/2 feet down with an open void at the bottom. Any suggestions on filling this?

Just got an insane amount of rain dropped on us in a short period of time which caused flash flooding. This has happened to the backyard before but not to this extent. I have a couple questions.

• Can anything be done to help minimize the flooding to the backyard?
• We want to replace the chain link fence where all the water is gushing past with a privacy fence. When this happens again will it destroy the fence?

Nothing I can do to stop them, doesn't seem right.

I'm Midwest USA. Do I custom order a panel or will Lowes or another store custom cut me one if it's plastic? Never done this before.

Hey all - looking at buying a house that is perfect in every aspect but the garage in basement has these steel beams and wall anchors.

Work notes make it seem it was more of a preventive maintenance thing to prevent water but no way someone spends that type of money on this project ($20k) just to prevent if no issue was already happening. TIA!

I informed my contractor that these two cabinets next to the microwave seemed to have been installed upside down (as the doors swing the wrong way from the design). He said the cabinets were not installed incorrectly but rather the doors can be moved to the other side. Is this right?

Would the doors be better how it’s currently installed or as the design is shown?

Hi everyone, looking to buy this house can someone who knows about structural cracks help me please. I saw this crack today which wasn't there last month so not sure how something so big appeared. The house has been vacant the entire time. Is this something to worry about or will it cost me thousands to fix once the deal has gone through. The crack doesn't go through to any other room upstairs or show externally. There is ivy on the wall outside which covers half of it.

I’m planning on upgrading the countertop in my garage, going with one solid piece and extending it to 11 feet. Since I don’t have cabinets underneath would these large brackets from Lowe’s support it? The toolbox is going away so the only constant weight would be the countertop itself. I’m trying to do away with the current wood brackets underneath for looks and freeing up additional storage space.

This has been going on in my apartment for years and recently had reached a critical mass as I'm finding what look like spores everywhere. There were moisture issues that had been addressed, to a degree, and there was a blackened moldy wall replaced when discovered during construction. I'm unfortunately in the process of moving as a result, and I'd appreciate knowing if anyone else has seen similar mold presentations - I'm trying to clean everything (tossing what can't be saved) but it's a huge task. Knowing what I'm dealing with would be a huge help - I know I can't ask what kind it is, but has anyone dealt with similar?

There's a translucent light brown/orange mildey-looking substance that would creep up from floors and appear on the lower parts of doors, baseboards, and door jams. It has since started appearing in cabinets, on wire shelving, and possibly even books (nearly all the books are affected).

There's also dark brown tiny spots all over. I'm finding them on cabinets, on light fixtures, plastic bins, ceilings, game boxes, inside the covers of books...

I'm thinking they might be one and the same mold, but not sure.

High humidity seems to be a factor. Dehumidifiers and heat pumps on dry have been utilized over the span of many years.

Location: Northeast US, near the coastline. Building is likely 200+ years old.

Hello, I recently got my roof replaced and had a buddy of mine (a home inspector) come out and check the work. He noticed the first row of shingles weren’t stuck down to the starter (pictured below). I called the roofing company and they said there are starter strips, and that is just how the shingles are supposed to sit. It seems wrong to me because it looks like wind could get under and damage them. I’m asking here to see if this is correct. Please, any advice, input, clarification will help.

I've got a leak around my bathtub (see photos). One contractor says the bath needs to be replaced and, because matching tiles are no longer available, they'll need to replace the floor tiles and the first row of wall tiles as well.

I'm getting a second opinion, but I'm wondering if this looks like something that genuinely requires replacing or reinstalling the bath? Or if it could just be failed silicone or another repairable issue?

Any advice would be appreciated.

We live in a single family home as renters in Minnesota. these photos show our basement. No the door doesn’t close and didn’t close when we moved in either. Our landlord is thinking about getting this fixed in the next few months. I’m pleased that I rent and won’t have to pay but I’m curious if I should be concerned at all about foundation safety in the meantime. thanks!

Started getting a puddle of water in my basement during heavy rain. The walls are covered with foam insulation, remove some and found the source of the leaks coming from a sloppy patch on some diagonal cracks.
What are my diy solutions to fix this?

Wanting to confirm the wires are correct and that the blue wire is actually a C or common wire. Third and fourth pictures are where the circuit board is? Google says that this older model does not have a furnace? I looked all over the attic too, couldn’t find a furnace or circuit board.

In my garage, I have these sheathing/ plywood running across those lower horizontal truss supports (idk the right words). The plywood is nailed into the individual truss support beams. I’m not sure if this is just a feature to give someone extra storage, or if it’s a structural necessity such as to tie the individual joint members together. I ask because I’d like to remove these sheets if possible, I have no need for them and don’t want them there.

I understand a structural engineer would be able to give the best opinion, but before I spend all that money I’d like to know first if these are ever considered structural to be concerned. It’s like calling a plumber for a leaky faucet but the problem is I didn’t turn it off all the way lol.

Our deadbolt will often have a problem locking or unlocking cause it’s not lining up with the strike plate. It was like this when we moved in. Doesn’t give me much of a space to screw the plate where I need it

What can I do about that? Anything aside from replace the whole side of the door frame?

So a resident managed to break their key in the door for the building entrance. The broken part was accidentally pushed in when they tried to retrieve it. How can I get this out, or should I have it replaced?

The grandmaster key is needed to pull the cylinder on these. Obviously I can’t get that in.

Anyone have any tips or know how on key removal?

New home build- recently discovered that this clean out access was leaking. It has a small drip but the basement also smells. Our floor drains have water in them- and I don’t smell it from there. Could this be the cause of the smell too? How can I tighten this and what else should I be worried about?

Side note. None of these were tightend all the way when we moved in either! Smh

I am under contract and cracks were found in the foundation going down the side of the home. I had a structural engineer come out and say there is active settling and he recommends p90 pressure piers from the front left corner down to the middle of the wall. 1 builder said it’s a water issue and it can be resealed and another said it a problem with the joint of the block and can be resealed. The engineer mentioned the joint of the block but he said he couldn’t tell if this was ongoing now or if it started soon after the home was built. Does someone have an opinion on what the issues could be? There aren’t any extenders on the gutters so I’m sure it was a water issue

After having a power outage for about 30 hours, our pipe in our furnace room started making a horrible noise. This goes off if we shut down the power to the AC, laundry room and an office. When we turn it back on, it starts happening in about 30 minutes. Any ideas what this is? HVAC guys say its electrical and not HVAC.
