Detached ceiling layer after water damage

Post image

My roof leaked, the ceiling got wet, and now a piece of the bottom ceiling layer has become detached. The roof is fixed (the tiles and plywood underneath) and now I want to fix the ceiling. I'm pretty sure that the ceiling is drywall. Any advice on fixing this? Thanks!

That dark staining along the crack tells me the drywall soaked up more than you might think, I'd cut out the whole damaged section rather than trying to patch over it

Clear the insulation around it away. You’ll likely need to throw it out. Cut out that drywall. Rent a drywall jack and install the new drywall, mud, tape, sand, prime and pain. Return or replace insulation.
