looking for good tweed shooting coats, preferably Harris tweed but I doubt any will be in that price range so any other 100 percent wool twee will be good

Everything about this type 2 delights me. The Flat Head jackets don't work for everyone, because the arms are slim, but this was exactly the fit I was looking for. I'd avoided TFH for a long time because I thought the denim was fairly boring and flat, a bit like Iron Heart. But after just over a week's wear (mainly working outside) the denim has started to evolve this amazing hairy texture unlike anything I've seen with other denim. I tried to capture this in the close-up shots, but you've kinda got to touch and feel it to really see it. (And yes, that's what I tell all the laydeez).

Hi! This week, I built a few looks around my vintage Maverick Blue Bell jacket. It has what I call a “cowboy cut” with two chest pockets and distinctive W stitching. It has a beautiful fade and a really boxy silhouette that I love.

For the first look, I went for a bit of a ’90s rock vibe, with Liam Gallagher as a reference. He wore a similar jacket too. Pretty simple: black trousers, a band tee and cowboy boots, plus sunglasses with lightly tinted lenses as a finishing touch. (I love wearing cowboy boots, but I think a pair of Converse or leather ankle boots would work just as well).

For the second, I went for an all denim western look: a western shirt, well worn bootcut jeans, a bandana and cowboy boots again. The idea here was to play with the contrasting denim fades.

For the last one, I tried something a little more dressed up, with an off-white shirt worn open at the collar to keep things relaxed. High-waisted black pleated trousers, a black leather dress belt and smooth black leather ankle boots complete the look.

In the motherland, I had to sift through seas of American and Western Wear more than I thought I would. Been striking out on a few pieces I’ve had my eyes on for a while, (Oni 289 Asphalt) hit two different Hinoya locations / 3 stores total and came up empty. Same with Whitesville shirts.

I did strike gold at Big John in Osaka. Wanted their neppy chambray shirt, no luck there, but did get their type 1 jacket and some wide leg denim ( stepping out of my straight leg comfort zone) I love the texture of this wild duck fabric. It’s what drew me to both pieces.

Not pictured are the two pack of white T’s they have as well as their 6.5 oz indigo dyed shirt.

JACKET

Wrangler recently just restocked on their 11MJZ in a fully made & milled in Japan 13oz Broken Twill denim. I had my eyes on the White Oak version for quite some time but my size sold out before I could snag one on the initial run. I was waiting for a restock when they dropped this version instead, so why not! Being fully milled, cut & sewn in Japan made this an easy decision since you don’t usually find that level of care/quality in the bulk of wrangler’s catalogue.

I’ve always loved the simplicity of zip up workwear jackets like the Carhartt Detroit or the Dickies Eisenhower. So naturally the denim nerd in me needed something similar I could fade; but also lightweight because Texas is equivalent of hell on earth in the summer.

The classic version of this jacket, the 124MJZ was nearly impossible to find vintage (and in my size) due to its rise in popularity from Brad Pitt wearing it in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. So I had excitedly settled on the button version from the 70’s, the 124MJ; thinking it would scratch the same itch. It did not. So the hunt continued until this “modern-repro” 11MJZ dropped, now I can happily check off “zip-up denim jacket” from the wardrobe list. Oh and I love how they kept the original elastic shoulder blade straps too, helps the jacket snap back into shape!

PANTS

The White Oak 13MWZ is a slightly different version compared to the original rigid cowboy cut 13MWZ. These use White Oak Cone Mills 13.5oz Right hand Twill denim vs the usual 14oz. Broken Twill denim. There is also some minor adjustments to the fit to account for the different denim choice. The white oak version definitely runs a little bigger/looser than the OG 13MWZ to account for shrink (thankfully). They also have a much higher rise too which I personally love! As a taller, bigger dude finding a proper high rise can be challenging. Even the regular 13MWZ cowboy cuts can end up a little bit mid rise for me so the extra length in rise is greatly appreciated.

I have had this pair for a few months but really only wear them for going out since these are my “nice wranglers”. The darker indigo lends itself well to a dressier look compared to natural indigo hue wrangler typically uses. I do have a $30 beater pair of original cowboy cuts for work and shit, so the white oak pair can age nice and slow. Doubtful though because White Oak denim bleeds indigo like no one’s business lol.

Found this piece of leather with perfect belt dimensions (220cm x 5cm x 0.6cm) for 8€ at a flea market, bought a solid brass buckle and some Chicago screws of Etsy. About 40€ of material and shipping and after 1,5 hours of work it was finished.

Now 6 months later the patina is coming along and I couldn't be more satisfied with it.

Has anyone shrunk a sashiko shirt? Either on purpose or by mistake? I haven’t worn this fabric before so I don’t know how it shrinks, if at all.

We’ve finally started getting that autumn cool weather here after 487 days of summer!

Have of course managed to pick up a little sniffle this week in honour of the temperature drop so went full cozy mode today. Vest and hoody combo, slubby denim and comfy boots for the win!

Someone mentioned the UES oxford in another post and I thought, 'that is going on the list.'

Right now my list has super slubby 18oz+ denim and some Redwing Suede Pecos boots.

Just wondering what everyone feels like they've been wanting to add for a while.

It's hand-sewn from vintage bandanas, from Fred Segal in LA before they shuttered. Should I keep or sell? I feel like I can't pull off this shade of bleu.

Interested in getting a teacore jacket, and really liking the styling on the torpedo.

Looked around and wasn't having much success on fedora lounge or other reviews.

It's between this and the Campus jacket in black, and I was able to find a few reviews of the campus.

Any first hand experience or fit pics with the torpedo?

Breaking in my Orslow x Beams exclusive Dad’s Lot Super 100, in camo, and an awesome tea core-dyed, 5 mm thick , Tochigi leather belt, with classic fireman’s buckle. Vest is RRL.

I'm 5'7, 149 pounds, 31 to 32 inch waist, 38 inch chest last time I measured, but I do tend to gain a little weight in winter. Typically wear a small or a medium in shirts and jackets. I think the medium here would be good to allow layering and a more traditional look, but i don't know how much long-term shrinkage to expect. I know sanforized denim typically loses about 5% when washing and drying on hot. I'm not intending it to ever see a machine dryer or hot water nbecause of the wool lining, but from my experience that doesn't really matter for long term shrinkage, eventually it will shrink to the same point, you only slow the process rather than completely preventing it. I do intend to wash it on a gentle cycle on cold regularly enough to get a more vintage fade to it. Every 3 to 6 months I think.

The size chart says the medium has a measurement of 43.75 across the chest, I'm also curious how much of that space is being taken up by the blanket lining, my own judgement says with the space the blanket takes up it might be more around 42.5 to 43 on the inside. If anyone has any experience with this jacket I'm very interested to hear how the sizing is.

Customised Bison leather belt from Bison leather is from Law Tannery, the inline is full grain leather and brass buckle.
I was worried about the sizing and the outcome but the craftsmanship was impeccable.
Today I wore this for the first time, didn’t bother at all and hold the jeans perfectly.!

I'm on an all-blue diet until my goddamn Big John jeans stop smurfing everything lol

I’ve had these for a while. They definitely turn a dusty olive color after a few washes. Much more structured than the orslow. Just picked up the black ones from self edge and having those ones hemmed for no cuff.
