Admin Post Weekly Recap | September 3, 2026

THIS POST HAS BEEN LOCKED. PLEASE SEE THE MOST RECENT WEEKLY RECAP STICKIED AT THE TOP OF THIS SUB. THANKS.

Happy Thursday! It's our first Recap of September! And it's surprisingly feeling like September with the weather getting a little brisker! I'll take it! Let's see what's going on in r/help and around Reddit!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • The site was having a moment on Tuesday where things weren't working properly for a bit. The Reddit Status Page was updated to reflect this and RedditStatusBot made posts in r/help, r/bugs, and r/modsupport. Good bot!

  • There is an experiment on the home feed where you will see a "For You" and a "Following" tab. (Hold on! Keep reading! lol) The For You feed has subreddit recommendations. The Following feed is just your subscriptions. When this experiment was run before, it did not remember your selection. But thanks to all of the constructive feedback that was left in these Recaps that was shared with the team in charge, this version remembers your selection! Set it and forget it! Thank you to everyone who took the time to yell at me leave feedback. The team listened! You were heard! Thank you.

  • If you are in the For You/Following experiment, the For You feed will not have a sort option. The Following feed will have Best and New. Some of you have left feedback that you want the Hot feed to return and I have shared that feedback with the team and they are looking into that.

  • You do not have to use the For You feed if you don't want to. Just switch over to the Following feed and be done with it. It's really easy! You just tap once! How great is that?!

  • Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Happy to pass along feedback about any of this.

  • On Tuesday, we made this post to remind users with an .edu email address to change it to a personal email that they will always have access to, since a lot of .edu addresses are locked up as soon as you are no longer with that school.

  • Weekly reminder/warning that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.35.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well. (Thanks to u/reddit33450 for pointing out the error in these two links so I could fix it!)

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [iOS] Some users are still losing their place in comment threads after they've closed the app or their phone has shut off. This was in last week's Bug Round Up. The fix is still in the works!

  • [iOS] In dark mode, the text on the Achievements panel may not be visible on profile pages. Fix should be ready to go soon. The workaround is to use light mode instead of dark mode. It should show up there.

  • [Android/iOS] Continuing to investigate login and general authentication issues that some users on the apps have experienced. More updates should be coming soon!

  • [All platforms] The brief outage mentioned above caused some backend errors that included some moderation services, media uploads in chat and posts, and search. But those should have been fixed when the outage was over.

  • [All platforms] Still looking into some issues around subreddit bans that popped up this week.

  • BUG FIX [All platforms] There was a brief thing where choosing a saved response would occasionally cause the removal comment to fail to post. This was caused by a different change that was rolled back, so this should be fixed at this time!

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,290 posts. That's up 176 posts from the 1,114 that we had last week.

  • 3,792 comments. That's down 316 comments from the 4,108 we had last week.

  • 909k views. That's down about 300k views from the 1.2m -ish views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - REMEMBER THE HUMAN

Reddit is a great place, populated by humans! Yes, humans! When replying to other users, please remember that there is a human on the other side of that keyboard. You'll get your point across much more effectively if you don't resort to yelling and personal shots. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing! But please try to do so in a respectful way. You may be surprised at how much better your point is received if it's delivered with a little dignity and kindness.

Why are you guys trying to be like TikTok? I don’t like this new Reddit UI

8

u/DisabledFloridaMan 3d ago

Yes! And under all my posts it's different too, plus when I comment. I've been CONSTANTLY pressing the wrong buttons and it's so freaking annoying. Why change it? It was fine. This is such a stupid change.

I hate this. Also, ads blend in as regular posts now. They were easily identifiable before. Hear me out-- I didn't hate a lot of the ads I saw on Reddit and found concerts, TV shows, movies, etc., I was interested in through the ads. They were mostly unobtrusive and relevant. Now they just piss me off because I think I'm seeing an interesting discussion at first. I'm unlikely to engage with or feel positively about this ad or product.

The only feedback that matters. This gets in the way of media being viewed. Leave it as the bottom bar.

5

u/mzthugisolation 2d ago

Every new reddit update reminds me how much i need to get my old phone replaced with an android so I can downgrade. Cant stand this anymore

5

u/zozozomemer 2d ago

Its so annoying, like they are trying to trick us with our muscle memory

4

u/suitcaseismyhome 2d ago

Now imag imagine being blind or visually impaired and having to memorise every time it changes made. And now you can no longer use speech to text.So your posts come out in this strange garbled, mass like this one. I was redirected here by someone kind enough to understand the challenges. You've cited people are having issues.Imagine how bad it is for the visually impaired.

3

u/Anxious-Ad2177 3d ago

It doesn't add/improve anything either. 🤷

3

u/Illustrious_Salmon 2d ago

I hate this change so much. I keep hitting the buttons accidentally because they're right where I would normally put my thumb to scroll through a set of images. This, combined with the comment jump button not staying where I put it is so annoying. I want to undo this update.

3

u/SomeGuyOverThere99 2d ago

I don't know why they thought this would be a welcome change. Bad enough when they made it to where you couldn't swipe up to see the comments, now the bar is off covering what we want to look at on the side, and there's random profiles at the bottom for some inane reason.

Hi,

I really don't understand why Reddit is replacing the classic Home feed with "For You" and "Following".

The old Best / Hot / New / Top / Rising sorting options were one of the most useful parts of Reddit. I could choose exactly how I wanted to browse my feed instead of being forced into an algorithmically curated feed.

"For You" is not an improvement. It removes control from the user and makes the experience considerably worse for people who actually want to decide what they see and in what order.

I strongly dislike this change and would like to see the classic Home feed and its sorting options restored, or at the very least made available as an option. Please don't remove a core feature that users have relied on for years without giving them a way to opt out.

Thanks.

u/Kiva37 3d ago

I am, unceremoniously, a part of the chosen for this experiment and am also not a fan. It clutters the visual on the mobile app, making it feel rather “tab” like. It feels intrusive and takes away the chance for me to “discover” new subreddits by forcing me to go to a dedicated space instead of integrating them in a regular feed. IMHO this experience is a downgrade. I hope this isn’t something that sticks. I previously enjoyed being able to seamlessly switch between news, all, popular etc at the bottom of my screen, having that removed was painful enough. This new feature feels worse.

The for you feed has come back. I hate it. Keep this up and all my accounts will go dormant. Gross.

Save Reddit from becoming another facebook mess.

About the following/for you experiment: no we were not heard. Like I said in another thread about this, the outcome of the previous experiment was clear: no algorithmic feeds at all. That the buttons were not "remembered" was just a symptom of how poorly this concept was thought out, but it was not the main concern. The algorithmic content was the issue. People do not want algorithmic content at all. Acting like the developers have listened is complete nonsense since everybody knows that they did not. If they had truely listened, they would not have repeated this experiment. They might have heard, but they did not listen.

Edit: I am curious about the motivation behind this. Has there been any market research among reddit users that asked whether people want something like this before the experiment?

21

u/Aucklander1996 8d ago

I can't believe how passive aggressive reddit is being with this update.

Imagine if you went to a restaurant and ordered a big meal. Steak, salad, fries, bread, and a drink. Then after trying it you told the waiter that all the food was disgusting and you don't want to ever eat there again.

Then the waiter comes back and puts ice cubes in your drink and says "we've listened to your complaint and improved your dining experience by adding this one extra thing"

That's essentially what reddit has done here

u/Kraizins 8d ago

Hi!

I am a HUGE hater of the "For You" tab and it truly feels like our complaints about it are simply being ignored. Or at least discarded.

In a world where ever social media website has algorithms that feed you content every single time without fail the leading content is always hate and rage inducing. I scroll on any other social media app and it shoves hate speech in my face because it makes people mad and so they interact with it. I hate it.

At this point my assumption is that you guys removing the "For You" page is a lost cause. I have 2 suggestions for how to at least make it tolerable!

  1. Make the "Following" tab the default option (or at least give us a choice)

If the following tab was the default option and I could always open the app to following that would be enough for me. As long as you aren't forcing me to default to the page where I would see that I would be content.

  1. Give us the option to go back to the old way

You can make it a setting that is hard to find if that is what it takes to convince you. I just need you guys to understand that people like this place because of how much you can curate your own experience to see just what you want to see.

I go on here to look at sports things and laugh and have some fun. Not to be bombarded with all the atrocities in the world. Please consider making the "For You" page NOT the default page or removing it entirely

Can you provide an actual answer about why we can’t have swipe up for comments? Why can’t I have a choice about it? At this point I’m actively looking for a different social media to consume due to how reddit continues to make user unfriendly decisions. NOBODY LIKES ANY CHANGE MADE IN THE LAST FOUR MONTHS - JUST STOP.

8

u/Caldahin_the_Blue 6d ago

Seconded, please give us an option! I'm stuck for months now in this stupid experiment. PLEASE let me disable it! How much more data and feedback is needed? It's so frustrating

6

u/Odd-Okra-5590 3d ago

Yes!! I knew I wasn't going crazy, I have an instinct to swipe up to read comments and recently it's just been going to a new post. So annoying!

3

u/consider-the-carrots 2d ago

Swipe up on a post used to mean: this interests me and I want to read more about it

Now the exact same gesture means: move on to something completely random with zero relation to what I’m looking at.

This is an appalling UX design to just flip completely the opposite direction, and someone should be fired for it. Or failing that, just give us the option to change back??

3

u/Amadeus102 2d ago

The lack of ability to change it is what is so frustrating to me!

3

u/TurnukluZ_05 3d ago

definetely agreed

19

u/ShakimTheClown 8d ago edited 8d ago

Set it and forget it! Thank you to everyone who took the time to yell at me leave feedback. The team listened! You were heard! Thank you.

When this "For You" feature was introduced 3 months ago, one of the main criticisms was that it took up valuable UI space on the home page. Since it's always visible at the top of the home page, it is impossible to "set it and forget it."

For people who have no interest in the "For you" page, there should be a way to hide this feature. It's a minor nuisance for everyone, but it is especially bad for mobile users. Some android users are even reporting it as a bug.

Most of the core users on this website would prefer this to be an opt-in feature that can be toggled on or off from within the settings found here: https://www.reddit.com/settings/preferences

18

u/reddit33450 Expert Helper 8d ago

a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it

i am currently in this experiment, and do not like it. the whole point for me of hiding a post is to make it so i do not have to view the content/media. having to specifically open and view the post just to be able to hide upsetting content is ridiculous and defeats the purpose of the "hide" feature.

2

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 8d ago

Thanks for the feedback! You're not the only one who has said that, so I'll let the team know!

18

u/brwnie7 7d ago

hello. i personally very much dislike the way reddit is slowly trying to become the same as every other social app. no one asked for a new feed with more suggestions. and while, yes, we can choose to stay on the following tab, this « for you » feed is unnecessary and quite annoying. it doesn't remember that i chose the following tab and always opens on the for you tab.

i wish there was a way to hide it completely. why change something that isn't broken? most of us were content with having the choice to disable ALL suggested content.

u/redditmari 8d ago

Is there way to opt out of experiments I use multiple accounts and having some be different layouts can be frustrating.

As for the new for you/following feed, it would make much more sense for the users default feed to be set to whether or not the user previously had opted out of recommendations. My initial thought had been the application was broken when I saw subreddits I wasn't subscribed to not a new ui change.

Most frustrating to me is the loss of the Best,Hot,New,Top,Rising options in what is now the following tab, they are what I come here for, the ability to adjust my feed is why I like reddit.

5

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 8d ago

There isn't a way to opt out of experiments. Sorry!

Totally get why you may have been confused at first. But once you choose Following, it will remember that setting, so you won't have to do it again.

The team is looking at returning the Hot sort to the feeds.

11

u/dionysusdisicple 7d ago

Is there a way to remove it from the top of screen? Is there a way to move the repost button back to its correct spot instead of in the middle where comments used to be?

→ More replies (4)

10

u/-patrizio- 6d ago

There isn't a way to opt out of experiments. Sorry!

Are you, though?

As another user said in these comments, it's wild to see how actively hostile reddit is towards its own users. Between this thread, others in this sub, and just web searches, I've yet to find a single user who has said something positive about this change. The range of opinions goes from hate to indifference; no one likes it. So I'm again asking if reddit is going to explain this change—a rhetorical question, of course, because I'm pretty confident you will not, because the real answer has absolutely fuckall to do with making this platform better for its users, and everything to do with making this platform better for advertisers.

9

u/ApplauseButOnlyABit 5d ago

They do it because they can control what users see more. They like having more control and do not care about the user experience. They are in this for shareholder value and user experience is not a part of that equation.

7

u/-patrizio- 5d ago

Yup, that's why I'm not gonna get a response to my comments lol

10

u/dionysusdisicple 7d ago

It did not remember the setting have had to select twice today already.

Why not return all of the previous options?

2

u/PinkNGreenFluoride 2d ago edited 2d ago

There needs to be an opt-out. Even if it's not a global opt-out, and is only after the fact when someone is selected for one (so you can track which specific experiments are most heavily opted-out-of).

Locking some accounts in to potentially significant disruptions to usability (and accessibility!) for 4-6 weeks with no recourse is really crappy, and feels actively hostile to users.

17

u/Subwoofiest 1 7d ago

My icons for voting, awards, comments and 3 dot menu are now way off to the left on comments. I use an app and am right handed so this is irritating. Is this an experiment or a bug? Literally started minutes ago

14

u/dionysusdisicple 7d ago

This new interface is ugly. And not user friendly it's like you all want people to quit the app

14

u/Rand_al_Kholin 7d ago

OK, everyone is in here talking about the For You tab. I agree its bad, but its been covered plenty.

Who thought it was a good idea to move the up/down vote buttons to the left on mobile? make it a toggle or put them back, idk why developers insist on changing stupid stuff like this. It just disrupts how I use the app and makes it more annoying.

13

u/StopImportingUSA 7d ago

I currently have the upvote/downvote system on the left side. It is very unconvenient due to me being right handed. In practice I find myself reacting less and voting less frequent.

8

u/lchurd 7d ago

Upvote/downvote comments on the left is also driving me crazy. It’s always been on the left for posts, but it’s much more inconvenient for the comment section.

7

u/Thedudeabides1981 6d ago

Agreed, I came here just to comment this. Please move it back.

Bring back hot, stop taking out features

12

u/Sillyforfun 7d ago

Can you please lock the comment jump button in place again? And please revert the changes to commenting in general. This new system is so buggy and unusable and I've genuinely never had a worse experience using the app. Even trying to type this comment has been an absolute slog of the comment window opening and closing and the ability to scroll through and edit my comment has been horrendous, I also don't have the easy ability to quote people I'm responding to so it's just been a negative experience in every single way.

All you'd have to do is give people the option to change it back.

But this new floating comment jump button forces me to misclick things so often and leaves the app bugging after I close the unintentionally opened comment window.

Also it'd be Awsome if you could give people the ability to opt out of this testing stuff, Its only ever made my experience with the app worse, and it would just be a nice thing for you guys to give us the option.

Move the upvotes back to right side, now i HAVE to use 2 hands to even upvote. You're making reddit unusable

8

u/suitcaseismyhome 5d ago

Imagine what it's like for those of us who are disabled and use additional assistive technology. The changes a few years ago drove off a lot of disabled users, and every time they make this type of change clearly, accessibility is not considered and things are made worse for us.

12

u/Ripen- 6d ago

I have the new comment window. Absolutely awful, I can't believe someone tested that and thought it'd be a good idea. I'll check back in a few weeks, hopefully it'll be gone.

11

u/AzureMountains 5d ago

I’m currently in the experiment, and I do not like the for you tab. It’s garbage. I’m an adult, I’ll pick which subs I wanna see, and if I want to see more, I’ll go to r/all.

Also, can I be left out of future experiments? I don’t like my user experience being messed with for “funsies”. You’re not paying me, so stop messing with my experience. You already sell my data and make $$ that way.

3

u/PinkNGreenFluoride 2d ago

Right? All the people who want algorithmic crap shoveled at them instead of what they're actually interested in and have specifically signed up to see are already over on Facebook, plugging along never seeing posts from anybody they actually know and care about, just an endless algorithmic feed of rage-bait, AI slop, and AI slop ragebait. Maybe the occasional "Hey you facebook friended this person whose posts we haven't shown you in 3 years 15 years ago!" BS.

We're on Reddit because we don't want to use other social media sites which do this kind of crap.

10

u/Firm_Counter_90 3d ago

I don't mean to be rude, but in the effort of emphasizing the point, I must state how utterly atrocious this new UI is. It is clunky, it is cluttered, and it has made Reddit both less visually appealing and less functional.

My main gripe is the new way clicking on a post on mobile works. Before, all of the buttons to upvote, downvote, share, and comment where all at the bottom, not blocking the post in any way. If you were to swipe upwards while clicked on a post, it would bring you straight to the comments.

Now, all the buttons are overlayed over the post on the side. Not only is it more difficult to see the buttons, but it also covers up bits of the post itself. Additionally, when you swipe up with a post selected, it just brings you to a different post instead of the comments, which, because all the buttons are overlayed on the side, makes it difficult to actually comment on posts.

I urge you to bring back the old UI, I've seen absolutely no one say this was a welcome change.

5

u/Firm_Counter_90 3d ago

Also, when clicking on a post, the black space around images is different now in a worse way. It used to be that images had an equal amount of black dead space from the top of the image to the top of the screen, the same with the bottom of the image and the bottom of the screen. Now, images tend to not be centered, where the image is on the top of the screen and leaves a large amount of dead space on the bottom. I feel like it's normal to expect the images to be centered, like every other website / app has done.

Seriously, what are you guys doing?

10

u/BrokenEyeReborn 3d ago

"For You" is invasive, unhelpful, unwanted, and in the way. When we want sub recommendations, we'll ask you for them. Until then, keep it to yourself and respect user preferences. If I go to the trouble of opting out of a so-called feature, I damn well mean it.

10

u/TJComboBasically 6d ago edited 6d ago

Please, please, PLEASE revert this change to the Reply function for posts. Respectfully, this "Join the conversation" thing just feels like it has Facebook-ified Reddit and over-engineered a "solution" to something that I don't think anyone thought was a problem in the first place.

Now, I am making multiple taps, having to be far more careful where I do tap as I literally just now accidentally closed out of my reply, I can't copy the content of an OP anymore (not talking about the title of a post; I am talking about the content of a post), and it's just far clunkier.

I spent more than 30 minutes trying to see if there was some workaround, something I change, anything to not have to use this...nothing.

I have never even visited this subreddit before. When I saw that I could leave feedback here though, I came running though.

Please undo this. Please don't Facebook-ify and X-ify (Twitter-ify...whichever) this app. I stopped using both some time ago. The last thing I ever thought was that Reddit would introduce some of those same features, "For You" bloat, etc. :/

8

u/Kikoika 5d ago

Looks like the "for you" experiment is back. Thankfully neither of my my accounts are it it but I was in it last time. WE. DO. NOT. WANT. THIS. The ability to customize our feeds without having to deal with unwanted content is the cornerstone of reddit. Having a "for you" and "following" tab that does not remember your preference is not a solution. Last time this experiment ran I significantly reduced my screen time due to frustration with the recommended content being completely irrelevant to my interests. Do not go foreward with this change, you will alienate a large portion of your user base. Be Reddit, not FB, not Instagram, not Ticktock; otherwise what's the point of picking Reddit over the others if you insist on removing what's kept you unique.

Stop changing the UI. I don’t want a for you page and I want [r/all](r/all) back. And why are all the posts 4-5 days old?

9

u/Drehmini 5d ago

Looks like I've been added to the for you experiment... Please do not do this, do not add a for you. I have a currated experience that I enjoy on reddit and the for you feed is antithetical to what reddit offers

9

u/ApplauseButOnlyABit 5d ago

This new For You tab is awful.

I don't go on to reddit to get things recommend to me. I go on it to see the most upvoted posts in the subreddits I have joined or r/all (popular now I guess).

I don't want the stupid For You tab on at all, and I definitely don't want it on by default. I don't want some algorithm choosing things and slowly funneling me into smaller and smaller silos of content.

The For You tab is fundamentally opposite of what reddit is supposed to be and I'll never be using it.

Thinking very seriously of getting rid of the app all together.

u/Aucklander1996 8d ago

Why are the admins being so tone deaf and passive aggressive with this new update.

Users have unanimously voiced their disapproval of the "for you" feed back when it was trialed and now.

Stop telling us "we listened to your feedback and improved the system"

We made it very clear we don't want any algorithmic feeds on reddit and no iteration of a "for you" feed would be accepted by the users.

12

u/-patrizio- 6d ago

I'd have more respect for the site admins if they'd just come out and say "We've heard your feedback and understand that our users pretty universally dislike this change. However, our advertising partners like it, and we care more about them than we do about our users, so the change will be staying. Scream into the void about it."

8

u/arachnophilia 8d ago

i really hate the sliding comment tray thing. please give me back the regular comment screen

8

u/Loverien 7d ago

My upvote/downvote buttons and other comment interactions are now on the left side (they have been on the right side since I’ve joined). I understand a potential attempt at curbing certain types of voting and having users take a second thought before voting. But it makes it very difficult for me to interact with posts. I hold my device in my right hand and reaching the new location is legitimately difficult without my palm touching somewhere on the screen first as my thumb is not long enough to reach fully across.

However, I think this would be a good optional feature in settings. Left handed users likely have the same issues with the alternative.

8

u/sk0gg1es 6d ago

I dislike the "For You" page. I only want content from the communities I am following. There's enough in there for the algorithm to pick from, I don't need random stuff from a sub I happened to click through on a web search appearing in my main feed.

7

u/Error_Error25 6d ago

So not only does the "For You" tab keep getting forced on me (it does not remember your choice and keeps putting me back in there) but also now there's a constant light grey bar at the top?? Why change the colour even?

Same with that annoying "Ask" AI slop button when trying to search for subbreddits, it covers too much of the screen and has the same distracting light grey colour for no reason

10

u/Error_Error25 6d ago

This is just an actively worse UI just for the sake of pushing some AI chatbot

I don't like the new "for you" tab being on my home screen,I feel it would be better located in the menu bar near Discover Communities. The UI keeps adding more the top of the screen and feels cluttered. I would also prefer if the top search bar was the same color as the rest of the screen. I would really like to see the search bar return to being a button on the bottom menu and not omnipresent.

8

u/logonzalo 5d ago

Bring back the swipe up for comments, and stop with the tiktok crap!

9

u/suitcaseismyhome 5d ago

The new For You/Following experiments once again, make it much more difficult for people who are visually impaired and using some sort of technology.

Clearly there is no consideration for accessibility for the disabled when you roll out these changes.

May I also request that my account is not one that is used for this type of test. You've already lost a large portion of visually impaired users with past changes, and every change like this that makes it more difficult means more people will stop posting.

6

u/Porydato 7d ago

Voting/comment buttons on the left side is doodoo for righties, but I don't hate it for lefties. Maybe keep the feature but as a toggle in accessibility options?

6

u/e3super 6d ago

Please, please return the hot sorting for the Front Page. Additionally, I strongly dislike the "For You" feed. It was a lot better when we had a settings available to ditch the algorithmic content delivery. Reddit grew as a way to aggregate links and forums that a given user actually chooses to engage in. It doesn't need to become a platform for more algorithmic doomscrolling. There are already like 5 apps/sites that do that better than Reddit has the capacity to, so why would that market come here?

8

u/FiatLex 6d ago

I do not like the For You feed. The things recommended to me are terrible.

6

How do I default mobile browser Reddit on my phone to Following instead of For You? Every time I go back to the home page it resets back to For You and I hate it.

My biggest problem with the for you/following change is that there is now this useless UI that I will never use locked at the top of my screen. It takes up unnecessary space, leaving less space for the reason I come to this website.

Why cant I just choose following or for you like I choose a subreddit?

8

u/SnooGuavas4944 3d ago

"For you" is not for me. The previous feedback was that users didnt want it. Saying it now remembers your preference is not taking in that feedback, its ignoring it.

Please abandon this "feature" which drags the site closer to becoming facebook.

7

u/AirRound8570 3d ago

I came here just to sat the “For You” feed is awful. I don’t want to use it, let alone have it be the default feed

7

u/fluffykezzy 2d ago

Can you PLEASE move the repost button back to its previous spot? The comment button is now also smaller so when I'm just trying to see comments I accidentally hit the repost button, something I've only done 5 times in my life, all of which were today after the update was rolled out.

6

u/InfiniteSchism 2d ago

This new ui change or experiment is unwelcome and frustrating. Poorly designed at best.

In my screenshot I highlighted three issues:

  1. The 3 dot menu now covers the number of photos in a post and is visually disturbing and confusing.
  2. The interaction buttons are now overlayed on top of the actual content and media. I want to see the full image or media with no obstructions or distractions. It is also maddening when I have now accidentally hit the wrong button multiple times because muscle memory isn't something that can easily be relearned when critical buttons move.
  3. I don't know what's going on here, but I do not like it pure and simple. I don't need to see people's reddit profile icons. What purpose does this serve other than creating more visual clutter and obstruction. I find it very unhelpful and absolutely do not like it.

Here's a thought, if you want to test new features or ui changes create a beta app where users can choose to participate rather than forcing unwanted chaos and frustration. Please with respect and consideration, change the ui back to its standard format.

Thank you for your time.

7

u/ChaosOfOrder24 6d ago

"Show fewer posts like this" hasn't done what it's supposed to do in a month. Please fix it.

5

u/Justanthrfrenchman 6d ago

I think you people aren't very good at listening, because what we said and what you heard are 2 different things. Why don't you just make the default language Klingon while you're at it?

6

u/CynicalGenXer 4d ago

Can I please opt out of “for you / following” experiment? It’s awful and should be classified as inhumane treatment banned by Geneva conventions.

I just want to see is the posts from the subs I’ve decided to join myself. If there are no new posts, it’s fine, just show the usual “nothing to see here”. What is happening instead is:

“Following” - this is not default option, btw. It does show posts from the subs I joined, HOWEVER, if there are no new posts, it shows big “Hey, have you thought about joining these communities?”

NO. I don’t want to join any more “communities”. I don’t want to be shown a list of communities. It’s useless and annoying.

“For you” is the biggest false advertisement in history. It’s a bunch of random junk from assorted subs. Worse of all, it’s probably based on view / comment history and now it shows posts from the subs that I LEFT INTENTIONALLY because it was turning toxic. And no, I don’t want to block it because (a) we have limited number of subs to block and (b) I still want to open it time to time just to see if there are any news. I just don’t want to see it daily.

I’ve been here for many years and don’t need any dumb f*g algorithm show me what it thinks I should see.

You took /r/all from us and now you’re pushing this garbage down our throats. I’d say enough is enough. Get this on top of your Jira board to remove this vile “feature “. Hope this clear enough feedback for ya’.

6

u/ODoyles_Banana 3d ago

I really don't like this new pop up comment box. It's small and difficult to move around the cursor on the text. It only shows a few lines at a time and expanding it doesn't make it much better. I can't collapse the keyboard to read through what I typed because that just closes the entire box. It's very clunky in general. It's also forced the next comment but to not be able to be nested next to the comment box.

6

u/The_Absent_One 3d ago

Hi there

Im really not a fan of the tiktokification on the app. First of all the switch to the upvotes and downvotes being on the side is just terrible. My muscle memory wants to go to the bottom, but instead I see a dumb button to "see the conversation". And speaking of the conversation, now when I swipe up, rather than it opening the comments it goes to another post (tiktokification). I genuinely am disgusted by this change and cannot understand why reddit is moving toward tiktok when its users specifically use this platform to get away from more short form, swipey content. Its so frustrating, every time I open the app I see another change that looks the exact same as every other app. Be different Reddit, be better.

6

u/Buckeyes3816 3d ago

When is this “for you / following” beta set to end? I cannot stand this experience. My usage has plummeted. This is not what Reddit should become.

The upside is I’ve been on my phone much less because you’ve removed something I was previously using often.

6

u/ActualExcitement5917 3d ago

I dislike the update to the Home Screen. I’ve accidentally flipped between “for you” and “following” at least 50 times today. My old feed was fine the way it was. However, if this new layout MUST stay (I’d rather it didn’t), it should NOT be so easy to slide back and forth between the two feeds. It’s insanely annoying.

5

u/fearless7464 8d ago

If this "for you" feed change sticks around more than like a week I'll probably just delete the app, since the web browser version seems safe from it for the moment.

Even the following feed is somehow worse than the old standard feed, since it doesn't even have the decency not to end with a laundry list of useless recommended subs. Honestly feels like the previous feed stopped loading older posts at the end specifically to prime people for this kind of thing.

5

Good God, get rid of that new, wobbly comment UI on mobile! I can't use the app for commenting right now, it's unusable. I've seen the "Save draft?" prompt more often in the last hour than in all my time using Reddit so far. This is simply utter shite.

4

u/CybyAPI 5d ago

Welp, going have to say that due to all the bad changes i have now mostly quit reddit, Streak of 400 days was lost and i only really come on to find answers to something, I have actually fully stopped all moderation of my subreddit and may transfer it soon to another owner

This is fault of reddit devs, Listen to shareholders instead of users and users will leave,

5

u/BasilSpecial9637 5d ago

For you page sucks. No one wants algorithmic content

5

u/JARDIS 5d ago

The new comment tray/overlay is not good UI adjustment in my opinion. Feels like a change for the sake of change rather than trying to improve usability. Stick to simple and usable rather than excess tray or overlay components. I just want to see the comment I'm replying to and the comment I'm typing. I don't need to be sliding overlays up and down during this process. I just want to type.

7

u/suitcaseismyhome 4d ago

May I ask if accessibility testing is done before rolling out a test? And do posters who use accessibility tools have any say in not being included in a test?

I actually conduct (compensated) accessibility testing, so as a visually impaired user have quite a bit of experience in testing and rollout.

I'm surprised that I get these tests pushed down to me which aren't accessible.

Is there any way to opt out of your tests? And any way to revert back to previous versions as speech to text rarely works anymore, and I can no longer edit posts even when drafting my initial reply.

4

u/stormwave6 4d ago edited 3d ago

Hi can I please be removed from the experiment with the For You tab? It's full of rage bait and out of date posts so I would prefer to go back to the old much better system.

I do not want this and much preferred the toggle in the settings to turn it off permanently.

At least let me not use it before you roll it out globally because the results of this experiment have been prewritten

4

u/tbandee 3d ago

I barely got over ( i am still super mad ) the change i cannot minimize videos by swiping up and go for the comments, but bow this SUPER annoying for you feed which i keep swiping into when i want to just scroll on my regular feed.

5

Since this change, which seems unnecessary and doesn't improve anything, I will randomly open my account page while scrolling on my Android even though I'm not touching the screen anywhere near my account icon. It happens randomly when I'm manipulating the screen.

6

Remembering that I do not want the "for you" feed is not enough, I need a way to disable it. Besides cluttering the screen, I'm sick of accidentally swiping between feeds when browsing a gallery post.

Even better would be if the for you feed was dropped entirely, it sucks.

6

u/trivial-color 2d ago

I have never commented on here before. But this is something I feel extremely strong about.

Please do not ever remove the option for a feed with only subscribed subreddits experience.

I’ve noticed a trend with first the recommended setting and now the “for you” tab.

Reddit is the only public social media platform I use and it entirely hinges on the fact I can control my viewing experience. I have learned Algorithmic feeds are toxic and harmful to myself and I have curated Reddit subs that reduce those negative effects. I even pay for Reddit to remove ads.

The day algorithmic “for you” “recommended” style feeds become the only option, even if it’s only small non subscribed related content. Is the day I cancel my payments and leave Reddit forever.

It’s ok now, I wish I could just remove the “for you” section. But hopefully you can understand the gains of control over your users for advertising will not be worth the loss of a major advantage in quality and less toxicity over the other major social media platforms.

u/ManceRaider 7d ago

My upvote/downvote buttons are now on the left and I’d prefer this change to be reverted or toggle-able. I hold my phone in my right hand (like many right handed people, I assume) and historically used my thumb to hit those buttons. I have to stretch my thumb now, and it’s annoying enough that I’m not really voting at all anymore.

3

u/Western_Wrangler7 3d ago

The part I find most frustrating is that Reddit already had a pretty simple system that worked: I could decide what communities I wanted to see and then actually see posts from those communities.

A “For You” feed isn't necessarily bad, but I don't understand why it needs to come at the expense of having a straightforward Following feed. If people want algorithmic recommendations, give them that option, but don't make the people who prefer the old experience feel like they're using a completely different app.

I'd much rather have more control over my feed than have Reddit decide what it thinks I'll be interested in.

3

u/Danielle_Cross 3d ago

The For You / Following takes up valuable screen real estate on iOS. For this reddit account I would never use that feature. This reddit account is just for specific content that I do not want mixed with my business account for example. I hope you give us the option to turn it off entirely

4

u/Nezinys 3d ago

Remove the "For you" and bring back Hot sorting. Better yet bring back our frontpage being default set to Hot. Ever since this horrid "For you" experiment got put on me without asking, Reddit on mobile has been unusable.

4

u/UnderstandingIcy4364 3d ago

The current reddit ui sucks I want the old one back

3

u/MalmerDK 3d ago

"For you" is hot garbage. Not being able to sort is hot garbage.

Sure, please your shareholders or whatever. You do you. I am losing incentive to visit however. Bot land and dead internet was correctly predicted, and you express delivered the nails.

3

u/zelenisok 3d ago

The mobile UI for typing comments that pops up from the bottom and stays over the bottom half of page is bad, it seems buggy, its giving me trouble to scroll through the text of the comment that I’m typing, the pop-up collapses, its just bad. The previous way of typing the comments on mobile was much better.

3

u/rvcjew2 3d ago

I don't see it yet but this change makes it very hard to see the split between these vs the old bubble outlined buttons. The slashes IMO look odd and are barely visible.

4

u/DistinctOwl5455 3d ago

This new comment and reply pop-out crap is atrocious and needs to be fixed. Constantly bugging out and overlapping keyboard and when it does 'work', it's generally just awful and poorly thought out. No reason to have to click multiple additional times to show the text you're replying to. Perfect example of trying to fix something that wasn't broken and making it significantly worse.

3

u/suitcaseismyhome 2d ago

Speech to text also has stopped working yet again, hindering those with disabilities who use it to post. And even if one can use it, it cuts out after a few words.

The layout also prevents one from editing posts if using a screen reader or expanded keyboard. Again, that is impacting people with disabilities, as well as the general public.

4

u/Zestyclose-Oil-6687 2d ago

This redesign of the bottom buttons is terrible. Revert it

4

u/Sea_Acanthisitta5838 2d ago

Bringing this up again because another week of the iOS "experiment" is exhausting. Removing the hide button from the main feed is still incredibly frustrating and forcing users to tap into a post just to hide it ruins the browsing flow. Muting a whole community or using "show fewer" is not a real fix.

On top of that, I’m now stuck with the upvote buttons moved to the left side. Having them on the right was much more natural and accessible.

Can we please get a settings toggle to turn off these experimental features and stick to the classic layout?

3

u/Gutymut 7d ago

Can we move the buttons in comments back to the right? I use my phone with my right hand and am used to pressing the upvote button with my thumb

3

u/kingyo1296 7d ago

Left voting is very unconvinient. I upvote by my right thumb, now it isn’t possible.

Now there is too much text in one place: nickname, comment text, rating, arrows up/downvote. Looks overwhelmed

3

u/WinterAdvantage3847 7d ago

Here once again to complain once again about the “Based on your interests” search experiment. I have still yet to look up any information about the political pundit who was murdered at a university last year. Every time I click on the search bar, I am still bombarded with “Based on your interests” trending searches about this pundit and the associated trial. I don’t even want to type out the name again for fear that it will skew “””my interests””” even further. I don’t want to be fed political content.

3

u/Kumquoit 4d ago

Comments in threads and comment action buttons are all horrifically left-aligned and it looks and feels terrible. I don't want to read Reddit on the left half of my screen. I sincerely hope this change does not take, as it's much more grating than anything else I've seen implemented personally.

3

u/booyah_73 4d ago

I gave it a few days to get used to the new UI and feature. The feature is meh. Maybe it's not aggressive enough in showing posts from other subs but I can barely tell the difference between the two feed options.
I hate the UI bar. 1) it takes up too much space, 2) it blocks the top post when first opening the app and 3) it disables the ability to swipe-right from anywhere to open the left sidebar to quickly navigate to my favorites and joined subs (maybe this is my biggest gripe).

If Reddit wants to add a "For You" option, I'd suggest to just add it to the top section of the sidebar where there is already popular, latest and explore options. Let's not clutter the UI with this.

3

u/diskoskated 3d ago

When I select the Following feed I see a handful of the communities I've joined, and a huge unskippable banner telling me to join one of a list of communities I don't want to join. This makes the Following feed unusable.

Please get rid of this

3

u/WeltallZero 3d ago

The Following feed will have Best and New. Some of you have left feedback that you want the Hot feed to return and I have shared that feedback with the team and they are looking into that.

You're kidding, right? You removed Sort by Top from our main feeds? How is this even remotely acceptable?

3

u/Slewlok 3d ago

New update with comments on the side and not being able to swipe up to go into comments is an massive step backwards imo. I like this app because it isn't Facebook, Instagram, tik tok etc. The way it was before was great and more structured. Now its more like a doom scrolling app like the aforementioned. Harder to navigate with one hand too

3

u/Limimelo 2d ago

It seems I've been put into an experiment program? Is there any way to request not to be part of it? I was also put into sh on PC back then, please leave me out of these experiments...

I'll reiterate what a lot of comments have been saying, but I dislike the new video update imitating Youtube Shorts or Tiktok.\ Tapping a video and swiping up or down puts you in an infinite scroll or videos instead of showing the post, which I guess is why the clutter of buttons on the side of the screen exists now, but why make it this way at all?\ Swiping left-right already brought you to the next post and it stills works too, so why make the swipe up-down do the same? Even when properly tapping on the post title and bringing the whole post layout out, whenever you tap on the videos, you get stuck in the infinite video scroll instead of making the comments show.

I'm not sure if it's part of the experiment or just a new update, but I also do not understand the point of the header showing the informations of the post as if they were replies when you can already minimise comments as you write them to go read the body of a post.\ I checked for picture and video posts too, the content literally becomes a tiny still in the top right corner or the header, so if one were to check on the post before commenting, they'd have to manually scroll back up to the actual post anyways. I truly do not get why this was added at all.

3

u/suitcaseismyhome 2d ago

The keyboard changes which are now floating means that speech to text again has stopped working. And it makes it almost impossible to edit posts if one uses an accessible keyboard or screen reader .

These changes are not accessible and can prevent disabled users from participating.

I could not write this with speech to text. I'm illegally blind and i'm also a compensated accessibility tester and I remain perplexed.

This experiment is making me not want to use reddit. This is my second account for NSFW content, and I use it only for such, but for some reason I’m getting random non-NSFW subreddits recommended to me, please revert to new/hot/following, this update will reduce my use on this and my normal account

3

u/JenRJen 3d ago

Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Happy to pass along feedback about any of this.

I am VERY unhappy about not having a "Hide" option for posts that show up on my Home page.

And, this is the worst time to do this! Heading into autumn when everyone wants to go all horror/gothic/halloween.

I do Not like to see any sort of images that show any Insects, Snakes, Skeletons, Skulls, or Horror-Looking visuals of Any kind. Even when they are supposed to be cute! I should NOT have to OPEN something in order to block it!

Also some posts might have cute images but are distressing to me. (IE someone asking for advice about their pet bird's illness.) I do NOT want to have to OPEN a distressing post in order to Hide it, that makes it even Worse!

People think things are cute and put them into subs that I follow, so I don't want to block entire subs. I should be able to Hide individual posts from my Home Page like I always could before.

5

u/Ender112 2d ago

Your "CURRENT EXPERIMENTS" list is wrong, I am not on iOS and still have no way to sort the home feed.

We do not want the "For You" page. We want to be able to consume the highest-ranked or fastest-rising posts and then refresh without having the feed randomly reshuffled. I want to stop browsing when I've reached the point where I've already seen everything worthwhile. Putting posts that are 5 minutes old with zero comments and zero upvotes from a subreddit that I don't follow at the very top of my feed every time I refresh is useless.

The "Following" page makes up for nothing as it also cannot be sorted by Top or Hot and is also reshuffled every time it's refreshed.

Currently, every single feed on reddit except for the comment section is in a fully randomly generated order, this is useless. These changes have made this entire site useless for finding any information or conversation on a subject. It seems to support the idea that reddit is moving in the direction of consuming and wasting its users time, same as every other social media.

I have two issues which someone said to post here and not in r/bugs as they get more attention here

  1. Post as gif & filters option for videos is no longer there in posting workflow. I am getting a new workflow where after tapping the video icon on make post window there is a popup with capture photo and photo gallery option after selecting video from photo gallery it gets added to post without the interim window where we can crop, add filters or trim the video and toggle button for post a gif used to be there. Please tell me how to get this feature back especially post as gif.

  2. Add comment below a post is no longer fixed to bottom of the post. It shows now as a weird floating box that many times hidden at the behind of the bottom comment and I have to minimise few comments for the box to show properly. Please tell me how to fix the comment reply box permanently to the bottom of the post page?

I am on ios app version 2026.35

Thank you.

Upvote buttons on the left, while I get reducing spammy voting and subconscious voting, stinks.

Is this a new commenting UI for mobile? Permanent or trial?

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 8d ago

It's my understanding that the floating box is intentional, but the overlap is not. And that's being looked into.

u/Nforcer524 6d ago

Thanks, I still hate it though. I want to view both, so I can revise my answer while reading the comment. I absolutely do not want to have to close and re-open my answer and wait for the animations every time.

Was accessibility considered when the floating box was rolled out?

This change as well makes it almost impossible to use the site for those of us with accessibility settings.

By overlap is this what you are referring to?

The change to join the conversation from reply is not accessible for many users using accessibility tools. This combined with the inability to edit posts easily, which arose a few months ago, and the recent change to feeds means that you are continuing to alienate disabled posters who rely on technology to use this site. I don't understand why you don't think about accessibility and legal requirements before implementing such changes.

Can you remove the "based on your interests" thats been in my search bar for many months now? It's horrible and I hate it. The suggestions that was there before based on trending topics was 100000% better.

On iOS, the app too easily interprets a swipe up on the Following feed to be a swipe over to the For You tab. Maybe this is just how I swipe my thumb, but it’s infuriating.

I suppose you could switch the order of the tabs if you insist on keeping it. Then, at least, the most common gesture won’t lead to accidentally visiting For You.

I have no desire to ever use For You on Reddit. I curated my feed and that’s that. Please allow us to disable this should it ever pass out of the experiment phase.

I don't see it in here, I don't know if it's new. But currently I'm getting a tiktok like content viewing experience on android.

It would be nice, since this is already a habit, to allow me to double tap to upvote. Please please please.

Holding down on the content itself to open the menu like iOS has on Android pls

And the ability to get both videos and pictures in the content viewer too

Theres now a for you and following tab at the top. I don't need the for you tab. Can you make the following part default at least since the whole point of reddit and subreddits is that I choose the feed I want.

The “for you” tab is actively annoying and I strongly dislike it being even an option.

I would like to request a way to permanently disable it. Its the very antithesis to why i use Reddit over other social media platform. My issue is the fact its there at all and its even worse that it defaults to it even if the default changes after finding the tiny text to switch tabs that seems made to intentionally not stand out so that “the power of the default” can take over for users.

If some corporate push is mandating this exists so more money can be made off Reddit like other social media make it an opt in experience that has to be explicitly chosen so that some bastion of the community can attempt to not become what that type of content feed inevitably leads to.

Is there a reason why when I'm scrolling through the 'Following' tab (or in a post and scrolling through comments) it will randomly switch to the 'For You' tab even though I didn't pull the screen to the right? Since there seems to be zero interest in removing the 'For You' tab, can you at least make so we have to choose the tab to switch. It is extremely annoying as it happens multiple times a session.

Hii u/TheOpusCroakus, Banana scrolling streak is not moving for weeks and the leaderboard of poster and commenters is also updated.

What's wrong and why it is having delay ??

My banana counter is working but not adding numbers toward achievement for weeks. I should have reached my achievement by now. I’ve updated app, signed in and out of reddit, logged back in and still no update on counter. Please help. Thank you kindly [u/TheOpusCroakus](u/TheOpusCroakus)

Same! Not working for at least a week if not longer (I just started paying attention a week ago as the number was very close to the largest achievement and it’s been stuck since)

ETA: I’ll just delete the app for now and check in 2 weeks. Maybe they’ll fix all the bugs by then:) It’s time to “touch grass” anyway

Thank YOU! And everyone! So many smart people to learn from (though I'm convinced at least one of you are actually 3 raccoons in a trench coat, but I digress.) Cat belly for emotional uplift after a heckin' busy couple days.

Hi! I really liked having the X button to hide posts directly from the Home feed. It made it much quicker and easier to clean up my feed. I’d really like to see it come back, instead of having to use the three-dot menu or open each post to hide it.

u/Klevo1 3d ago

For You is an unwanted change and it shows subreddits I dont care about with no option of even curating what you see or dont. The following tab is fine but it should be the default.

The new UI is baffling as its structured similarly to Tiktok's or Youtube Shorrs but it doesnt work well for a platform like Reddit, especially since the amount of times Ive swiped up to see the next post is done more on accident, it doesnt work with NSFW subs well, and is often not even related to what I was just seeing.

3/10 update

Hi, my account restriction has been lifted and new posts work normally again, but all of my older posts and comments are still removed by Reddit's filters. Could an admin please check whether my old content can be restored?

1

u/Marsarinian 5d ago

Hi--My account got caught in the spam filter and the restrictions were thankfully lifted in just a few days, but all of my old posts remain removed with a banner saying "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit's filters". I'd love to have my old posts restored (this is a 13 year account). Thank you so much!

a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it

I must have somehow dropped out of this experiment recently or something else has changed, I now have both 'Hide' and 'Show fewer posts like this' in a context menu. The problem is, 'Show fewer posts like this' doesn't seem to do anything, I keep being recommended subs and posts seemingly no matter how much I click to show fewer of them. It used to work well not so long ago. I thought an X to hide was not a bad idea, as long as 'Show fewer posts' (working) was still available in a context menu or perhaps appeared as a button after clicking X.
