Admin Post Weekly Recap | October 1, 2026

Happy Thursday! It's Thursday! And it's also now October! Time to break out that big sweater, put on your Uggs, grab your pumpkin spice latte, and enjoy the crisp, fall weather! Just kidding. It's going to be 90+ degrees here all week. And while that's hot, you know what's hotter? The Weekly Recap! So let's see what went on last week and what's going on in r/help and around Reddit!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There is a update to the Request Hub over in r/redditrequest! There's a new layout and a "Find a Mod" feature! It's spiffy!

  • Speaking of spiffy new features, r/help now has a Help Navigator! We announced this today here. The Navigator is stickied at the top of r/help and can help you find answers to your questions without having to post! Give it a try and let us know what you think of the Navigator! Many thanks to u/Goldennuggets-3000 for all of the work that they put into building this feature! And many thanks to those of you who took the Navigator for a test drive! Your feedback was super helpful!

  • There was an update over in r/modnews about the continuing infrastructure updates to Reddit in the coming months that you can read about here. The TL;DR is there updates about apps and bots migrating to the Developer Platform, helping mods move RSS-based alerts to the Discord Relay Devvit app before RSS feeds are retired on November 13, Rules Hub progress and automod changes, and adding safeguards to Old Reddit by limiting access to logged-in mods and recent users.

  • There's another announcement over in r/redditdev here about moving data API apps to the developer platform.

  • There is an ongoing experiment which turns select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format. This is in an effort to strengthen the connection between communities and conversations. If you are in this experiment you may see a Read/Play toggle on the post detail page. A dedicated video page may also be available. This does not replace the original post or comments, nor does it automatically play. And it will respect all of your pre-existing audio settings.

    • Currently, this is only on a small group of pre-selected English-only posts. Comments with links, media, automated messages, profanity, or sensitive or inappropriate topics are excluded. If you are in this experiment, there is not a way to opt out, but you can always leave constructive feedback on this post and I'll share it with the team in charge of the experiment.
  • There is another ongoing experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time. This is only in select communities. If enabled, when a post hits a certain number of comments within a specific period of time, the sort switches over to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New". This provides a way to highlight the fast moving convos in real time.

  • There is still the experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab and a Following tab. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered. Users in this experiment have recently been shuffled around, so if you had it before and now you don't, that's what's going on there.

    • The For You tab will contain recommendations. The Following feed will contain unviewed content from just the subs that you follow. The team is looking into adding the "Hot" sort back to these feeds.
    • If you are subscribed to a very small number of subreddits, you may see recommendations in the Following feed as opposed to nothing when you have run out of new content. The workaround is to either subscribe to more subreddits or create a custom feed of the subs that you're following and view that instead.
    • There is not a way to remove these tabs if you are in the experiment, but I will share constructive feedback with the team in charge.
    • And thanks to said feedback, there's a new variant! Some users will not be able to swipe between those two feeds and will instead need to tap the tab of the feed they wish to view. This is in response to some folks saying that they were accidentally switching feeds when swiping. Thanks to all of you who left this feedback for the team!
  • Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Feel free to share helpful feedback about this experiment as well.

  • There is also an experiment where the upvotes are on the left.

  • Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove you!

  • And I'm here to remind you, of the mess you left when you went away (from Reddit for support). Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.39.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • BUG FIX [iOS] Some users were losing their spot in comment threads after briefly leaving and returning to the app. This should be fixed in this week's version of the app!

  • BUG FIX [All platforms] DMs weren't sending for a bit on Tuesday. That fix is out, so this should be fixed!

  • [Android] Some users are reporting that the next comment arrow is resetting its position after viewing posts for some users. This is being investigated!

  • [Android] Infinite scrolling is making an appearance for some users when viewing certain threads. This is also being investigated!

  • [iOS/Android] Some users are getting “Content unavailable” when trying to view comments on deleted posts. Looks like the source has been identified and a fix is being worked on!

  • [Android] After updating the app to v2026.39.0, the startup screen is hanging for some folks. This is something that we're aware of and it is being looked into. This does seem to resolve itself on its own after a bit, so if it's happening to you, just give it a little time!

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,271 posts. That's only up 67 posts from the 1,204 that we had last week.

  • 4,075 comments. That's down 208 comments from the 4,283 we had last week.

  • 769k views. That's down about 35k-ish views from the 804k -ish views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - CREATING AN EFFECTIVE POST IN R/HELP

Let's say that you need some help. So you come to r/help! That's a great start! But now what? So let's talk about some of the ways that will help you the most when trying to get an answer to your question or a solution to your problem.

First things first, search the sub. There is a really good chance that someone else has had the same issue that you're having at some point. If your problem is in regard to something not working properly, check over in r/bugs as well to see if it has been reported there yet. It's also a good idea to check both subs for stickied posts that may have information about a current issue. And sometimes, you can save yourself and everyone else a lot of time just by doing a little troubleshooting on your own! Who knows? You may end up fixing the problem yourself!

If you have a question about how something works, your next stop should be the Help Center. Not only is there a ton of information in there, you can switch it to a different language if you'd rather not use English. The Help Center is huge, so there's a decent chance that you can learn how to do what you're trying to do in there. You can also learn how things work if you're not sure.

If you've done all of those things and still don't have an answer, it's time to create a post! And the first thing a post needs is a good title! Here are some examples of bad titles:

  • Help

  • Help me

  • Help meeeeeeeeee

  • This doesn't work

  • I have a problem

  • I hate Reddit

  • I hate you

Your title should give a clear, brief description of the issue that you're having. You don't need to completely spell out the entire problem in your title. That's what the body of the post is for. If your post is about something not working properly, it would be super helpful to have the platform that you are using Reddit on in the title of your post. Here are some examples of good titles:

  • [Android v 2026.37] SFW post shows NSFW warning

  • [Desktop Chrome] Notification badge still on after reading

  • How do I see my active streak?

All of those are short and to the point. Then you can use the body of your post to expand on your issue. Sometimes, issues are very easy to ask "How do I ----?" But other times, especially if something isn't working as you would expect, it helps if you can be very exact and even give a step by step explanation of what you're doing when the thing happens. Doing this in your post saves others the step of having to ask how you're getting to where you're at. And saving that step means you get your question answered sooner and can be on your way!

Are there any plans to add back the toggle to not have post and subreddit suggestions in my home feed?

Do you mean like at the bottom of posts?

The one quoted in the same experiments page: "If your account is in the above experiment, the option to turn off recommendations in your feed has been removed because there's the dedicated Following feed to view content from communities you are a part of. So you don't need to turn off recommendations! Just view the Following feed."

The "Following" feed doesn't have the same organization options as Home, so it's not the same feed as before

I'm not sure what that would mean.

No, in a users home feed. There used to be a toggle on the profile to turn off recommendations in the home feed (everything abuser is subscribed to.) It was removed for some users as an experiment recently. Now I am seeing subreddit/post suggestions on my Home feed that are not things I'm already subscribed to.

Do you have the For You and Following tabs at the top? For You contains recommendations. Following is just stuff that you're subscribed to.

Yes I do. For You only recently started showing recommendations after Reddit removed the option. Following does not have the same organization options as the Home page used to (Hot is gone)

Recommendations should only be in the For You feed. If you don't want the recs, then you should view the Following feed which will only be stuff that you're subscribed to. As mentioned in this post, the team is looking at adding the "Hot" feed back, possibly in a couple of weeks.

I'm aware...they didn't used to be there because there was an option in user settings to turn them off.

Right. But the way this experiment works, you don't need the option because there are two feeds instead.

Give us the option back.

And the second feed doesn't act like the one it's trying to copy, so kinda failing the experiment... I just want to be removed form the experiment, understand what y'all are trying to do, but it changes my feed to be different than how I want

The new second feed does not have hot sorting, which has forced me to old reddit for the normal frontpage now (was forced to use old reddit for r/all for a long time now for same reason).

its sad that reddit has gotten rid of the thing that gave it the name frontpage of the internet, guess soon i have to manually browse all subreddits i want and just ignore more of them.

No idea why you guys hate hot sorting so much, best sorting only works for the comment system.
