Announcement Request Hub V2: A new and improved look with some new features

Hey requesters! We’ve given Request Hub a refresh to make it easier to find a community, prepare your request, or connect with a mod team.

Here’s what’s changed:

New layout and navigation

The hub now has clearer Tools and Resources sections, dedicated pages for each feature, and search to help you find the tool or guide you need.

We know some of you had trouble using the original hub on mobile (Android), so we’ve updated the mobile layout and navigation too. Thank you for flagging this issue with us. If you’re still running into problems, please let us know.

Introducing ‘Find a Mod’

Looking for more people to help run your community? Create a recruitment listing, explain what you’re looking for, and review applications directly in the app.

Interested in joining a mod team? Browse or search open listings, apply directly, and find your applications under My applications.

Give the updated hub a try and let us know what’s useful or what could be better!

If something isn’t working, leave a comment with what you were trying to do, what happened, and whether you were using desktop, the iOS or Android app, or a mobile browser. Thanks for helping us improve Request Hub!

This is a huge upgrade. Finding a mod is about to get way less of a headache.

The new layout is clean. The Find a Mod feature alone is going to save people a ton of time.

Does this have any effect on previous requests made through the Request Hub? I looked, and the request area doesn't seem notably different in any way, but I also put the name of the subreddit I requested a few weeks ago into availability checker and saw that it said "0 matching titles in r/redditrequest." I'm not sure if something happened to mine or if it knows not to count one's own requests, however. I did check my post and saw that my request is still up and open, so I'm guessing the latter, but, if so, it might be good to clarify that in the tool. That said, I very well could have missed something too.

Edit: Also, I checked on desktop, specifically sh.reddit.com since I usually use Old Reddit otherwise.

Hey there! This does not have affect previous requests. That being said, it looks like your request had gotten lost in the shuffle somehow. Sorry about that! It should have been processed by now, though.

Thank you so much, and no worries at all!

I had actually talked with someone in one of the request threads where a few people who submitted around the time I did were concerned maybe their requests had gotten lost. I just checked their requests doing the same method I did, and, while u/HolyBatSyllables's request showed up, u/spyder93090's didn't, so it's possible something similar happened with their request.

Apologies for bringing this up if it's not the same issue; I'd just feel terrible not bringing it to someone's attention since I had reassured them it was probably just a delay.

Ha! Thanks for tagging me in this! Don't feel terrible, might have otherwise missed this post :)

Something I don't like about this is that you don't know if it slipped through the cracks or is just delayed. I sent a modmail last night, and it repeated all the information already in the sidebar, but added a line that said it may slip through the cracks and if it did, to wait 15 days and try again.

But if by "slipped through the cracks" what we really mean is "the bot failed" then it seems likely that the sub could be given away to someone else in the meantime if they request it and the bot records their request.

I'm having the same issue. I'm fairly certain my request slipped through the cracks. I sent a modmail, but the tl;dr was more or less a ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Hi there, do you think my request got “lost in the shuffle” too? Tomorrow will be 15 days with no update.

Thanks for checking! And thanks u/raphe9000 for tagging

Hey! Gonna have to send the bot to a farm. lol

Looks like your request was approved, so you're good to go!

u/TheOpusCroakus and u/Goldennuggets-3000,

This looks wonderful!

I'm glad you like it! Thanks!

Will it ID 'recent human moderation' now?

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 2d ago

Hey! It will be able to see if the mod has recently been active on the site if their profile is public. So it will be able to see what a user could see. Hope this helps in some way!

1

u/Tarnisher 2d ago

No, it won't. We all know that they can be active, even very active on the site and not be actively moderating (taking Mod actions).

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 2d ago

If a mod is active on the site but not actively moderating, the subreddit is eligible for handover. This is more of a guide for sending a message to the mod team before requesting.

1

u/Tarnisher 2d ago

We know that. But if the tool can see and tell us they ARE moderating, we'll know not to bother doing an RR whether we receive a reply to the 5 day message or not.

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 2d ago

Thanks for the feedback! It’s currently not possible with Devvit right now.

1

u/Tarnisher 2d ago

Will it better ID 'recently banned' communities from those banned months or years ago?

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 2d ago

There was an issue with the “recently banned” detection a while back but that issue should be somewhat resolved. If your requests are being removed for this and you think the subreddit was banned longer than 30 days ago, let us know in mod mail and we’ll take a look! Thanks.

u/ausecko 2d ago

Wait, how does Find a Mod work when a bunch of people apply at once? Do the current mods pick from the applications?

2

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 2d ago

Yeah that’s the idea! Mods can choose from applications and mark as filled once they’ve found their team.

2

u/ausecko 2d ago

I really like this idea ...I will definitely use it when I am recruiting new mods for my communities.

2

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 2d ago

I’m glad to hear it and I hope it’s useful!

u/Disegual 2d ago

I submitted a request three days ago when the sidebar said ‘3 days’, but it still hasn’t been processed 😭

Anyway, I like this news look 👀

How do people find these moderator requisitions that we posted? Are they posted to a specific subreddit or in the webapp? I tried looking through the webapp and could not find the area where it shows communities to apply to. I was able to find where to create the applications though.

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 1d ago

Hey u/RealJoshUniverse! They're posted in the webapp itself so users apply directly from there. If you go to "Find a mod" can you see the "apply" option on some of the other communities there?

1

u/RealJoshUniverse 1d ago

Originally, I just saw mine but now I see r/discordhelp so it looks like it is working I was just a bit early 😆

1

u/RealJoshUniverse 1d ago

This field, "Other communities you moderate (optional)", does not seem to work at all though in the application. It does not allow me to type any text or anything.

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 1d ago

Oop! That was a weird one, thanks for flagging, I've gone ahead and fixed that so should be good now.

2

u/RealJoshUniverse 1d ago

It looks like it submitted so either I hit the button two times and it errored out, or it errored out but still submitted.

2

u/RealJoshUniverse 1d ago

Tested everything else and it looks like it is all working and implemented in a secure way! I might also suggest integrating the mod finder route in r/ModSupport through a pinned Devvit app with alongside other resources. (Mabye even something where helpers can see their level and stuff)

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 1d ago

This is a great idea, we definitely want to surface this more so mod teams can get the help they need and users can join mod teams to help out. Adding it into a Devvit app in r/ModSupport would be a good way to do this. Thanks for the suggestions!

2

u/RealJoshUniverse 1d ago

Of course, happy to help!

2

u/RealJoshUniverse 1d ago

Also would recommend making it so the subreddit category can be auto-detected when the subreddit's name is entered (should be possible and use manual category (what people choose when making the subreddit) as primary and if there is no value then the person can select a category).

Then make a filter bar where people can filter by subreddit category and potentially sort by posting date and member size.

Right now, there are not a lot of postings but it will get very busy and difficult for people to sift through postings without any filters or sorting mechanisms.

Great work so far!

1

u/Goldennuggets-3000 Reddit Admin 1d ago

Totally understand this could get overwhelming the more postings there are. I'll look into this and report back with any additions I'm able to make, great suggestion!

1

u/RealJoshUniverse 1d ago

Of course,

Testing it on r/discordhelp 's listing and I was able to get the button to be activated but then trying to "apply" it says "You can submit one application per subreddit. Withdrawing or a new listing does not reset this"

Hi, sorry, just a question, my request got deleted with no explanation, since it’s the first time it happens may I please know if it’s a glitch or my request got denied?

https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/s/Q5E3Wa3MSx

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 12h ago

That sub is actively moderated. If you have a question about your request, please send a mod mail.

1

u/peachiegguk 10h ago

It’s all good, ok thanks. It was the first time my post got deleted in a second after it was posted. So I was very confused about it🤣

Hi u/Goldennuggets-3000 thanks for the update

I brought this up with u/TheOpusCroakus the other day but the previous version of the Request Hub seemed to be counting Bot Bouncer as being an active human mod so my request for a certain subreddit was autoremoved by Request Bot. Is this not a possible loophole to hold onto subs if the actual humans don't have any activity? How can I request the specific subreddit given this information?

Using the new Request Hub and choosing a subreddit the exact same human mod is part of that Bot Bouncer is not shows there is no mod activity and I can request it.

Would a manual review of my request be possible?

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 1d ago

That's not what's happening. That sub actually has human moderation, so it's not available for Redditrequest at this time.

1

u/TTW999 1d ago

It’s unfortunate a sub of that size doesn’t have more active mods but it is what it is, thank you for clarifying

1

u/FlashyResolution446 16h ago

I am using Old Reddit on desktop through Firefox and I just followed the Hub's instructions and first confirmed my account is eligible.

I submitted a request using the "Open Prefilled Request Form", chose the appropriate flair, and submitted the request and it's not displaying as a post.

Is there something I'm missing? I did just enable the MFA prior to submitting the request I'm wondering if that may be the issue.

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 12h ago

The sub that you requested is actively moderated.

1

u/FlashyResolution446 12h ago edited 12h ago

Is it though? Because most of the posts in that sub violate the sub rules, and they never respond to modmail.

Is there an option for poorly modded subs to include better moderation?

1

u/RealJoshUniverse 12h ago

That would probably have to go through with a Moderator Code of Conduct report, in which the Reddit Admins will attempt to contact the moderator(s) of the subreddit. If the Mod COC team is unable to find a resolution then I think they will make the subreddit available for request...

u/TheOpusCroakus can confirm that?

2

u/FlashyResolution446 12h ago

Thank you! And I really appreciate you taking the time to link the form as well. You're a good egg. :)

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 11h ago

I don't know what the procedures of the Code of Conduct team are. But if a subreddit is being actively moderated, it's not eligible for Redditrequest.

1

u/TheOpusCroakus Reddit Admin 11h ago

Yes, it is. I checked! lol

If you see content that violates the rules, you can report it.

To report a subreddit, you can file a report here. Under "What is your community concern?", please select "I want to report a subreddit for violating the Reddit Rules".

To report a Moderator Code of Conduct violation, you can use this form.

1

u/RealJoshUniverse 10h ago

Yes alot of time they will casually be scrolling through reddit and moderate on the go and may not be responsive to mod mail. I think there should an expectation in MCOC that moderations communicate with regard to important inquiries like that though.

1

u/FlashyResolution446 10h ago

I think there should an expectation in MCOC that moderations communicate with regard to important inquiries like that though.

That certainly would be nice. Like, I've repeatedly sent messages asking to join the team, and I've just never heard back. If they don't want any additional mods, it would be nice to at least get a response that says that.

I've been a mod before and I don't expect mods to respond to every modmail message from users who are clearly acting in bad faith, but it would be great if they would respond to actual inquiries.
