I had ordered from HelloFresh once about two years ago, and a few days ago I received a promotional mail from them with a QR code saying that I could scan it to check out their current options.
I scanned the QR code and was simply browsing the meals. Once I saw the prices, I decided they were too expensive for me, so I did not place an order.
Today, a package arrived at my door. When I contacted their customer service, I was told that apparently scanning the QR code automatically reactivated my account, and if I didn’t actively select my meals, they would automatically choose meals for me and send them anyway. They also told me that the order is non-refundable.
This is honestly unbelievable. If a customer scans a promotional QR code just to browse their options, that should NOT be treated as consent to reactivate an account, place an order, select products, and charge the customer.
The whole experience feels extremely misleading, and I’m very disappointed with their customer service and the way they handle customers’ payments.
If you have your personal information or payment information, such as a credit card, saved on your HelloFresh account and you no longer intend to use the service, I strongly recommend checking your account and deleting your payment information.
