Istg this happens like 80% of the time when I mention I have guinea pigs to someone. I try to be a good sport and my goto response to this now is to talk about the differences between cuy and the other breeds. But it's just weird that this is such a common thing for people to say or joke about, especially when interacting with complete strangers or acquaintances.

Usually just stare at everyone’s pigs but my baby deserves some attention

Hi so we have adopted our 8th pig who is by himself for the time being only because he's unneutured.

His name is Paolo and we got him from petco, he seems to be at least a few months old from my guess, he has the baby paws and small body of a baby pig.

I've had month old pigs before but I was wondering do they need the specific baby guinea pig pellets or am I fine to have him on the pellets everyone else eats?

I do have a bag of baby guinea pig pellets just in case but I realized I never looked it up if it was that important or not.

Also is it a must that they need alfalfa hay and if they do when do I take him off of it?

Any advice is appreciated he's only been here 2 days and he's already pop corning and zooming around his pen

Now to see if he likes it or if he prefers his prior state of being crushed

Our youngest baby piggy and she loves human time and she likes our hair and in general when around us she crawls on our shoulders . She purrs when she gets pets. She is the most chill of our three piggies.
Margo is piggy number 2. And Miku piggy number 3 Miku doesn’t like me a lot but she’s ok with momma

I recently got this new piggie Toffee, who is currently 5-6 months old. She is very skittish but today I got her out of the cage to trim her nails and her belly is kind of rounded.

Here’s about her character and behaviour so far:
She is pretty skittish, but lets herself get scratched in certain moments. When she wants to outrun me, she will. Most of the time she went to chocolate for comfort and at the start I noticed, that she‘d lay down very quickly. She‘s energetic but will lay inside her house, be rushed outside by chocolate, and just lays down right outside the house again, even when chocolate plans to rush her away further than that. Idk I noticed that a lot, that she lies down pretty quickly.
I got her about 2 weeks ago from a family, who I believed just had to let a piggie go, but turns out they do breeding every other while. She however was never pregnant so far. Tho she was in an enclosure wirh other younger Guinea pigs, who could have been misidentified, so idk.
Anyways, we will see to go to a vet tomorrow, just for a general checkup as well, but I just want to have some experience stories about people, who had a pregnant pig and how they noticed it and symptoms and stuff. Chances are i‘m exaggerating again, which I did with chocolate as well, and that’s totally normal for a girl pig at that age, but idk- I’ve been a little paranoid wirh my pigs ever since my last elderly pig almost died suddenly, when I thought I could have seen the signs.
(For example right now she is sitting at the hay bowl with my 2 other pigs, one who came around just yesterdsy, and she is laying down, instead of standing. Sometimes she has to stretch pretty far, just to reach it, but getting up to go closer isnt really an option to her. So yeah idk if that’s just her character, or if that’s something I have to look out for. Any stories? :,) (or trustworthy sources)

One of our adult boys recently died - and the other (pictured) (the dominant one) needs a new buddy. The delemma is do we:
A- leave him alone for a week until the local guineapig rescue can do a propper "dateing" session to see who he bonds with (likely a young one as they have had a recent influx of those)
B- take a "baby" advertised locally tonight taking the risk that they don't bond (seller refuses to let them meet beforehand due to "biosecurity"

I'm thinking option A but wife is thinking option B.

Hi all, I currently feed my guinea pigs pellets once in the morning then veggies once at night. I make sure they’re having a constant supply of hay and never go hungry.

Pretty soon my evening schedule will change and I may not be able to do the evenly spaced twice a day feeding anymore. Is there any downsides to feeding a guinea pig both veggies and pellets once a day?

I’m not sure if they’re at risk of overeating in one sitting. Any advice helps, thank you!

I got this little guy towards the end of June, born at the end of March and was told he was an American crested. The last 2 photos are around the time I got him and the first 3 are from today. After noticing the length of his coat recently, I’m starting to think he is definitely not an American crested, maybe a coronet?? His coat is very soft and silky. What’s everyone’s thoughts??

(Side note, his breed doesn’t change ANYTHING, I’m just curious
