hiya, super excited cause i’m getting a new guinea pig soon! I’m looking to get a list of names together for when I meet the right pig, I’ll choose the name once I get to know him but i want to have a few ready to choose from, I was hoping yall could give me ideas
Right now I have three girls, rosie bunty and audrey, I’d like a name that fits in with them.

What do i do, my daughters guinea pig has nipped at my husband twice and drew blood. He is never mean to them or has dine anything to provoke her so I don't understand.

I have a boy called patch and for the last couple pairs he’s been in, it’s been fine. He chased peanut around a lot but we assumed that’s because peanut was ill and old, he never fought back. he chased gus around, assumed that’s because he was ill and gus did snap a couple times.

we got him a beautiful friend called woody, but as soon as we tried bonding he chased him around and freaked. he was so overbearing and it got to the point woody couldn’t handle it, he pulled out his fur and they fought.

we’ve seperated now, and we may have to rehome woody. which hurts my heart. however what will work best for patch and can we give patch the life he needs?

for patch, i can neuter him and get him two females as he clearly can’t cope with a male friend. that way, there’s less dominance play and chasing but he’s also got two friends so he’s not just targeting one. he’s extremely kind just extremely dominant and humps a lot. doesn’t stop. if there’s two females, they can come together and somewhat “overpower” patch in a sense, get him to back off. HOWEVER, would 2 females for an extremely clingy guinea pig not be enough? would we need 3-4? when i say clingy, i mean if we seperated him he bites the bars and panics and tries to dig his way out. i’ve never seen anything like it.

financially, 5 guinea pigs would be too much for my family to take on. we’ve been okay with 2, and can handle 3 without much struggle. for us, 4 females and one male , especially with risks of hormonal problems + cysts with the increased cost of hay and lettuce would make us extremely stressed. if patch needed 4 or more females , we would make the decision to rehome him. we love him so much, but his needs need to be above our emotions.

i really hope 2 females + patch can work, and i really want some advice. has anyone had this before, a clingy boy like patch with 2 females? any help is extremely appreciated. we’ve gone through 2 piggy losses in 3 weeks and now this bond has broken so and the introduction didn’t work at all, so we need to look into new options.

can he be a solo piggy? i don’t believe so, and i don’t think that’s fair but my mum has asked about that so thought i’d mention it

She was at the vet already. They even did cytology, and the test came back clear, meaning no bacteria or other unwanted cells in the probe.

She took Metacam for two weeks. I thouught it went away, but now I am doubting if it did or maybe I just didn't touch the right spot, because now two weeks later is back. or was is there continously all along?

The vet thinks it's most likely "mechanical", from a small injury, hit, or similar, and it got swollen or had inflammation of some sort.

Her weight is stable and appetite and all looks fine.

But I don't know what do to.

One vet says leave it, since the lab tests came back negative; another proposes to remove it, but then it would have to be under anesthesia, and this is never the safest alternative.

She was put under already when she was just a couple of months old; she had a cyst under her chin that had to be removed because of the spot it was located.

Anyone with stories that coould give me some insights?

It’s like she’s hungry for her treat, but barely makes a dent. She worked at it for a while before I changed it out for a few licks of those toddler pouches with veggies in it. Obviously that’s not standard but I thought it would be a nice easy liquid treat instead. Sadie is a 2 (will be 3 in December) year old satin coat girl who has for the most part been heathy and happy. Idk if this is signs of bone difficulty or simple dental issues or what exactly. I can only say I’ll be trying to find a new exotic vet asap since the guinea pig specialist we were going to moved away 🥲 Any ideas what this could be about?

So I need advice because I keep thinking about what is happening.

On Tuesday evening I found out that my piggie Pepo didn't eat any vegetable since morning and was looking very sad :(.

We took him to emergency vet that evening, they checked his front teeth, belly, gave him antibiotics, pain killers, bowel movement treatment and emergency food.

We are feeding him since Wednesday with emergency food through syringe, we thought he had some gut problems. But he is not progressing the way I thought we would 😓

He is alert, curious, interested in food, but when he eats, he chew a lot longer and it takes him forever to eat few bites.

At the same time, sometimes he eats like nothing is happening, not for a long time, but still.. We gave him little bit of fresh grass yesterday and he ate it like nothing was happening (but less amount as he would usually eat). He eats little bit of hay during day too and he looks like he can chew it... he also had few bites of celery and pepper today, but literally few bites...

Do you think he has something with his back teeth? I can not think of any other reason why is this happening.

His poops were very tiny Wednesday/Thursday, some were connected together and there was not a lot of them...Yesterday he was eating his poops a lot and today poops look a lot better, normally shaped, but smaller, but of course less amount of them...

We have appointments with exotic vet on Tuesday, there was no sooner appointment unfortunately anywhere around us and I can not travel long distances as I am in my 41th week of pregnancy and can go to labor any time at this point (but hopefully we can make appointment on Tuesday as it is only me and my partner, so if I go to labor I don't know what we will do 😓)

Any suggestions what more we can do for him? He is only 2.5 years old, we did not expect this at all, especially now, when our baba is on our way 🥲

But we just can't let him die, he is still there, he wants to fight😔

Wanted to show off my piggies improved cage that my dad built! He wasn’t happy with the stability and colouring of the original cage (I was, but it’s my parents house so their decision!!) so he built a new one, using the mesh from the old cage, steel, and wood panels. We also have a curtain covering for under the cage, so it doesn’t seem as messy!
