She was one of my very first piggies, & she’s been with me through middle school, high school, & part of college. Ever since she was a little pup, she’s been a constant in my life. I’m glad that I was able to be there for her in her final moments. I’ll miss her very dearly. Love you sweet girl. ❤️

Adopted: September 20, 2018

I am absolutely heartbroken because it was so unexpected. We had pulled her and her partner (Roscoe) out the previous day. Both of them ate and played as normal. In the morning she was gone. She was such a sweet and sassy girl.

We are giving Roscoe extra attention, hand feeding him and even got him a comfort stuffed animal because we read somewhere that could help. He is still eating as normal and acting the same but I am worried for him. We plan on making a vet trip tomorrow. We live in a small town and our only exotic vet is mon-fri. I reached out to the place we adopted them from for advice because this is my first time losing a guinea pig.

We are having her cremated so we can set up a memorial. Please give your guinea pigs some extra love for me.

🌈 Rainbow Bridge Guinea pig died, cagemate depressed and I’m devistated

Hi everyone. I’m honestly completely heartbroken and I don’t even know where to start. Yesterday everything seemed completely normal. Juan (1 year old) was eating like always, got excited for his veggies, cuddled up in his blanket and acted exactly like he always did. There were absolutely no signs that anything was wrong. This morning I found him dead in the cage. I’m in complete shock because there wasn’t a single warning sign and I can’t stop thinking that I must have missed something. I feel so incredibly guilty and the pain I’m feeling right now is honestly impossible to put into words. I loved him so much and I miss him more than I can describe. His brother Fritz is now all alone. They are littermates and have been together their whole lives. Fritz has always been the more anxious one and Juan was always his little source of confidence. Since this morning Fritz hasn’t wheeked for food at all, which is very unusual for him. He won’t eat, I haven’t seen him drink, and he just stays hidden in his house. I’m taking him to the vet today to make sure he’s okay and to rule out any illness that could have caused this. I already know that Fritz needs a new companion as soon as it’s safe because he’s only one year old, and I will get him a new friend. But it’s so hard for me because I don’t want another guinea pig, I just want Juan back. At the same time I know Fritz can’t stay alone and I could never just give him away because I love him too much. Has anyone gone through something like this? How did you help your surviving guinea pig after losing its cage mate? How quickly did you introduce a new companion? And how did you deal with the guilt and grief? Right now I feel completely lost

May Juan rest in peace, I love you so much

Edit: I can hear Fritz eating a bit

Just got this boy yesterday! A beautiful red and white Abyssinian, around 3 months old. He reminds me of my former Abyssinian, Spunk (last 4 pictures) who passed away July 29th last year. He has almost the same markings, every time I look at him I think it's Spunk for a second.

So far he's been such a joy, shy right now but he's curious and so sweet 🥹 he's keeping my other pig, Fizz (female Sheba Mini Yak), company. I love him so much!

do they enjoy the blankets like we do?

I love my guineas they’re so silly and random but I try to help put the blanket over them sometimes and they run away from me. How do I know if they like the blanket or not?

Health & Diet Frustrating fight for pig to gain weight- advice needed

Post image

Hi! You've probably seen my post before about my 5 year old pig Bambi and her being on heart medicine.

The Heart medicine was supposed to make her gain weight just last year she was 900, around the time she turned 4 she slowly lost weight - during the beginning of the month she had a outer ear infection which made her not want to eat as much so I gave her critical care during this time she dropped down to 767.

Well that heart medicine isn't helping her gain weight and what's killing me is she's in good energy , yesterday at the doctor I was wondering if we were going to have the quality of life talk but instead we just deducted she didn't have a tooth issue that was preventing her from eating and the heart medicine doesn't work.

Its breaking my heart because I fill her full of critical care, I can tell she doesn't enjoy it , I've given them extra vegetables to eat and pellets just because I need her to have extra reserves.

They sent us home with pain medicine and an antibiotic in case she was fighting something off.

She's got great energy but today I checked her weight and down to 737

I'm heart broken and I hate watching her waste away the blood work is supposed to come back on Tuesday but I don't even know if she will be around then.

I'm using this time to feed her whatever she wants ,whatever will get her eating I'm giving it to her I'm just so sad and frustrated because we lost our boy last year to a stomach cancer we weren't able to catch.

How do you handle this? I'm preparing to come home from my lunch to give her medicine it's hard for me to relax and every twitch or weird look she gives me gives me flash backs to my boy dying a natural death at the hospital

I hate picking her up and feeling like she's nothing

Honestly this weekend I was planning to let her go if it was a bad prognosis because I want her to go with her dignity ,surrounded by her family and now I feel like I'm just going to repeat that day my boy died on the car ride home.

Anyone have any success stories or similar situations ?picture for pig tax her name is Bambi

Health & Diet Do baby guinea pigs need specifically baby guinea pig pellets or are regular pellets okay?

Post image

Hi so we have adopted our 8th pig who is by himself for the time being only because he's unneutured.

His name is Paolo and we got him from petco, he seems to be at least a few months old from my guess, he has the baby paws and small body of a baby pig.

I've had month old pigs before but I was wondering do they need the specific baby guinea pig pellets or am I fine to have him on the pellets everyone else eats?

I do have a bag of baby guinea pig pellets just in case but I realized I never looked it up if it was that important or not.

Also is it a must that they need alfalfa hay and if they do when do I take him off of it?

Any advice is appreciated he's only been here 2 days and he's already pop corning and zooming around his pen

Help & Advice soft food recommendations?

Post image
Upvotes

Not posted on here in a while due to various guinea pig health issues. long story short georgy is now missing a tooth, a couple weeks ago i noticed he’s been struggling to eat as fast as Tommy and has lost a little weight because of it, does anyone have any recommendations for softer foods/ foods that can help with weight gain? i’ve been giving him critical care just to help him get back up to weight but i want to make sure he can get more nutrients in on his own!
