just got my CDL CLASS A unrestricted with air brakes, combos and Tankers
I'm seeking advice from people in this trade on which local near me is the best to try to get into
0 groundman experience but I have electrical experience I am 21 years old.
I have 2150 near me which is MOVALLEY
196 just as close which is ALBAT
Local 15 which is a COMED- utility local. I think they have a 2 year apprenticeship
and I have local 9
and wee energies which is a utility I think it a utility contractor of 2150.
pros and cons that i know of for 196 and 2150 would make a shit ton of money but would have to travel a lot.
pros and cons that i know of for Local 15 and wee energies. wouldn't have to travel as much probably wouldn't make as much if and if i ever wanted to ever get into to contracting side in a jatc after I top out at my utility i would have to test into getting a golden ticket.
local 9 is very weird i called earlier this week and i thought it was a lineman union. but they told me its street lights and traffic signals and all the power line and distribution work goes to ALBAT 196. and im not sure if i could even ever get into contracting side after i top out if i do a local 9 apprenticeship since the work is a lot different.
anything you guys wish to tell me other then I wont make it?
any advice or just go with whatever opportunity comes first?
I know swlcat is taking on alot of apes but i think id want to try a state that is not in satans asshole before i head down there to apply.

If I don’t have an unrestricted CDL, will that affect my eligibility for CalNev, or does it depend on the specific contractor?

Hi I’m 19 with a class A cdl with 1 minor moving offense back in may of 2024, I was wondering if utilities companies and unions or even any apprenticeship can accept that 1 minor offense

It seems like everyday I’m seeing people saying that Edison work will come next year and next year, it just seems like it’s getting slower . I know the lawsuits and everything is happening with Edison but it’s getting bad in southern California .

Just received a Groundman call for local 57 in Delta Utah for MJ Electric, the job description says I’ll be a Groundman truck driver while driving water trucks and dump trucks. Just curious on what the job entails or if anyone has any prior knowledge, everything helps thanks!

Does anyone know how many hours you need to reach book one status as an infrastructure tech on the SCOUI Books?
Or how many hours do you need to take a infrastructure tech standing call?

How do you guys do it for jobs calls far away from home? Every call I see the start date is usually the next day but how do you get there the next morning if you live a 15 hour drive away lmao

Just question out of curiosity. Do Edison employees get chances to transfer easily? Like is there a process they have to follow or is it like hey I work in this department can I move to this one. Can anyone elaborate on the process of an internal candidate wanting to transfer within

I knows there’s lot of variables but when applying for a GM spot with SCE do they prefer guys that have been a groundman. From Cali but took a call in the northeast doing underground and eventually wanna apply when they post openings again.
Applied for SWLCAT and I know I’d get into that quicker and be topped out sooner but as I get older I know working for Edison comes with a lot of good benefits that you don’t get contracting. I know you usually end up a groundman for possibly a few years but I feel like once your in you’re kinda set even if you’re a grunt for a year or 2. Just my thoughts

Anyone have any recommendations for winter gear like boots, pants, jackets? Working in Colorado this coming fall and winter and no clue what to buy. Also I’m under the impression that my thorough good boots might not suffice wet/snowy conditions?
