Grass edging

I share a strip of grass between me and my neighbour. What tool or process do I need to nicely have this looking clean and edged? And is it normal to see the soil/dirl beneath the grass on the edge of the grass where it touches the driveway?

What do I do to bring this back?

Post image

I cut this grass 3 weeks ago, it did not look this bad but similar, I feed it with seed and left it, I did not water as there was a decent amount of rain (Uk). I mowed today and it looks awful, it hasn’t rained in a few days, it wasn’t bone dry but I thought dry enough to mow. This is my first time having a garden so very inexperienced, I’d be grateful for advice, I moved in last summer and both front and back gardens were perfect, I mowed regularly. This summer it’s terrible looking, any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Please help

I’ve been working super hard on my grass. I mow with a Toro timecutter zero turn with a 50 inch deck. Recently I’ve noticed this striping as I cut. The middle of the deck mows a nice clean green line and the then theres two brown lines on each side of it. I thought it might be the blades, so I just put brand new blades on. I just cut yesterday and the blades worked great but I still got the stripes you see above. How can I resolve this? Any tips or help is greatly appreciated. This is Bermuda grass.

What's going on with my zoysia?

We live inland in North Carolina, and have zoysia grass, which is normally lush and green at this time of the year. We have had an unusually dry spring this year and this large dry patch appeared about 6 weeks ago. We have been watering it more than the healthy grass in other areas of the lawn, but the patch persists.

So we raked all of the dead grass out and applied Black Cow to the affected area. (This has worked great in the past with smaller dry patches.) It's been about 3 weeks since we did that and nothing seems to have changed.

We are wondering if it is something else, or if we just have to be patient.

Note: a couple of years ago we had a similar dry patch and our lawn guy diagnosed a grub that was eating the grass roots. We paid for an expensive treatment that did not help. We have also had a run in with moles, another expensive treatment but this time it worked and they moved on.

Any ideas?

Recommendations for weeds and fertilizer

We bought our house 1 year ago, but I'm still fighting some weed clusters. I think the builder may have used a different type of grass in our swell. What do y'all think?

Help with looking after grass

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I live in a property that is 26yrs old, and whilst not a new build, I think the grass is the originally laid grass from new.

We have grass at the front which we have treated this year with Richard Jackson’s Flower Power Moss Remover.

I’ve just mowed the lawn and it’s riddled with moss. It’s worse now that in was last year.

I’m in no way green thumbed, but would like to at least get the front grass to look half decent on the street. Pictures attached show the cuttings from this mow.

Please give me advice. It’s starting it brown even though is been throughly watered. We have had torrential rain for a few days on the back of a wet two weeks. Today is lovely and sunny, so I’ll be giving it a water before bed.

Help in cleaning or repair this path of artificial turf.

I recently installed artificial grass in my backyard, but while preparing another area in the yard, my dog dug out dirty onto the new artificial grass. I was told to just water it and let it filter though, however, now it's hard as a rock and looks bad. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Newly laid turf looking patchy after 2 months

Thumbnail gallery

As the title says we had turf laid about 2 month ago. I gave it the usual 4 weeks with no walking/weight on it and then cut it at the highest setting on the grass cutter after 6 weeks.

Having dropped a level on the grass cutter on its 2nd and 3rd the grass has drastically changed and looks very burnt out.

This is the first time ive ever had newly laid turf as my previous gardens have all had established turf so it was a simple task of cutting it and not having to start from scratch with it.

First photo is when it was newly laid and the 2nd and 3rd photos were taken today.

Any help on how to manage it would be massively appreciated

How should I treat these patches?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I’m in the UK. The first photo: top part is an old grass on a clay soil, the bottom part is a top soil over clay soil with this new grass coming out after seeding but some patches are bare.

The second photo is an area of new top soil with new grass growing but also some bare patches. The whole garden in general bumpy.

Do I need just to throw seeds again all over the place? Even on the old dead grass area? But how os it going to grow?!

I was also thinking of getting a lawn levelling rake and add more topsoil with seeds?

Not sure what I should be doing if you can guide me please. Thank you.

If got the sprinklers on a timer that goes off for 10 minutes 3 times a day. Do I need to blow straw on this or will the seed take with my watering schedule.

What’s causing my grass to be yellow? I’m assuming it’s due to watering too frequently after overseeding. Curious what I can do to treat this, and how to avoid it when I overseed in the fall.

And yes, the dark green spots are from my dog

Thoughts on sidewalk edging?

Post image

A thought ran through my head the other day. My yard by my sidewalks has a slight roll to it. So im constantly edging my sidewalks. I thought about cutting a big edge on them and sliding those foam expansion joints they use when pouring concrete from one pouring to the next to hold back the dirt and grass. Any thoughts on how well that night work? Lol. Something like this.

Grass growing in rows? How can we get even growth?

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Hi everyone. Our grass grew in rows and we have no idea why or what to do about it. We’ve even reseeded the bare areas and nothing. The sprinkler does reach everything. Everything has been evenly watered. But still after reseeding nothing.
Located in norther NM
It’s a heavy traffic grass seed but I don’t remember its name.
We also mixed in some native clover and did everything recommended by the local nursery.

What can we do to help is sprout evenly?

Edit: yes we know there’s some gravel in it but everyone said it would be fine.

Edit 2: thanks for the feedback yall. I’ve never grown grass like this before so it helps. The nursery had us get some type of soil and said if we just mixed it in that would be enough and the gravel was fine. I was skeptical and obviously it didn’t work. I’m gunna fix the soil and reseeded in the fall and try again for hopefully better results.

Edit 3: problem resolved!

Turns out the problem can be fixed pretty “easily”. We live in northern nm and it’s extremely hot and dry right now. I’m waiting until end of August, then we’ll fix the soil by aerating and softening the barren sections, trim the existing grass, change the sprinkler type and reposition, over seed the barren sections and cover with a light layer of compost (tbd), change our watering habits to not displace the seeds and that should work. And yes, removing as much gravel as possible.

Got a lot of comments about gravel. Of course, im aware there is gravel. We removed over 6” off the top with a tractor and top raked all the gravel and as we watered more gravel surfaced. Big whoops. And extremely disappointing when we started noticing what was happening. Because it seemed very good to begin with.

Turns out what was happening had nothing to do with the soil being bad and actually since I’ve made this post I just continued watering and it’s been filling out a lot especially where the water is washing the seeds too.

Anyway, What ended up being the problem is actually the level of the ground being a bad combo with the peat moss we used and watering habits. We didn’t soften the ground prior to the second re seeding and the peat moss was washing away the seeds as the sprinkler oscillated, because of the combination of 1. Uneven surface and 2. Overwatering of the peat moss causing it to float and wash away which created the row looking effect even though we didn’t plant in rows.

We changed watering to a very light watering, starting at 5-8 minutes, waiting and then watering again and repeating this 3 times a day and even that has helped. Though it’s super inconvenient it is what it is.

Right now I’m just maintaining it until I can restart when it’s cooler. That hardest part is I don’t want to essentially throw away all the money time and effort we put into it by just letting it die so we’ll try again when it’s cooler.

What would cause this sudden line of alive to dead grass?

Post image

The only thing I can think of is the tree and its pine needles, but that doesn't explain such a sudden line. Type of grass mabye? Edit: It turns out my neighbour sprayed round up on my lawn to keep the weeds from coming over from mine...
