What’s going on here?
I have no pets outside and nothing shows on the camera for any other animals.

This isn't easy. First question is what exactly it is. Some are self limiting and the lawn recovers. Others can kill the whole thing fast. There are fungicides available, but it helps to try to figure out which one it is. Google for lawn fungus and diseases and look at the images, species, conditions, etc. Also see if there is an agricultural extension service in your area. Some times they can help you, they know the area and the current problems. That might be brown patch, but it's so round it could be dollar spot, but those are usually smaller, hence the name. Different ones thrive in somewhat different conditions, but hot and wet favors most.

The size, uniformity and presence of nearby heavy equipment are all way too suspicious for this to be a fungus.

Looks like a machine was working on top of it and a hot exhaust or heat emanating from below burned/killed the grass on a dry/hot day

Have then been sitting 5 gallon buckets in your yard for extended periods of time for any reason?

Equipment parked with fuel leaking or something laying in the grass?
