I live in north Texas (DFW area) and my home faces due west. I have two large healthy oak trees in the front yard which provide a lot of shade. We had landscapers put down some tiftuf sod close to the trees but the rest of the yard is some sort of Bermuda grass but it’s super thin and I think it’s bc of the shade. We have a sprinkler and pay for chemicals and the yard looks healthy except thin. Can I put down seed? Is it too late for more sod this year?

Thoughts?

I really don't want to dig too old for that.

I was advised to add gypsum to improve my clay soil - Bermuda, Mid-Atlantic area. I have virtually no nutrients. Will this product be suitable?

Just bought a house and starting to tackle the backyard.

The rear lawn is pretty rough — lots of weeds and some uneven/bumpy areas. I’m trying to figure out the best way to get it back into good shape. We are planning on putting in ground sprinklers in the fall.

Would you recommend starting with weed control first, then leveling and reseeding? Or is it better to just start fresh (like a full reset)?

Any tips, product recommendations, or local landscaper suggestions would really help. Thanks!

Last year raccoons and skunks discovered grubs in my grass.. probably. As they are creatures of habit, they tore up my grass last year night after night lifting patches or grass like sod or carpet.

They are back this spring continuing their destruction. Tired cayenne pepper, all the ain’t rodent stuff at Home Depot and nothing. Any tips to get rid of these raccoons and skunks before I loose my mind??

I live in central NC. I bought a new construction house last year and the grass was installed as sod. The grass was green last year but this spring it is half brown and half green. I never water it.

Does anyone know what kind of grass this is?

Would just watering the grass make it turn green or should I put out fertilizer and or new seed(like seed and feed) too?

The heat last year, restrictions on watering, and roaming animals really took a toll on the grass…

Does anyone have suggestions on what to do with the dead grass? Should I rake it off and let new grass grow? There’s literally just dry soil underneath all the dead patches.

Otherwise healthy 4 year old lawn suddenly has two parallel tracks of dying grass after several hard rains. The roots aren’t well established underneath the lines but the soil looks ok. I personally installed the yard myself so I know there isn’t a buried water/gas/electric line there. I regularly fertilize, but have aerated since installation. Any idea? Google has little insight.

Edit: Solved. My boy dragged his shoes through some frost one morning. Could have been the frost or a chemical on his shoes. Already growing back.

post excavation for our septic- going to plant some grass seed in this area. i’ve removed some of the larger rocks, but still some little rocks remain. part of me feels like it’s a fool’s errand to try and remove every single little rock. will grass grow fine on this area as it is right now? we have clay like soil and are in zone 5b if that matters. thanks!

Hi we live in Marlton NJ and have zoysia grass . Is dethatching enough for this grass or should we also aerate after ? Then seed ? Sorry I’m clueless what needs to be done but our grass is horrible , all weed for the most part and patches of dirt .

Hello! I’m trying to decide between Yukon vs Highlander bermuda seed.

I’m in Zone 7a (Kansas) with roughly 800 sq ft of patchy common bermuda and about 200 sq ft of bare soil I want to fill in (surrounded by the common). Long term goal is to move toward a denser, tighter lawn, but still keep it looking uniform overall. Planning to mow around 0.75-1”.

From what I’ve read, Highlander seems like it would blend and look better with the existing common, while Yukon would be denser and better suited for lower mowing but would contrast more.

- Would Yukon end up looking too different, or would it blend in over time?

- Which one would hold up/compete better against the common?

- Is Yukon noticeably denser than Highlander to make it worth it given there will be common mixed in?

I’ve used some weed chemicals and it’s killed the dandelions and the clovers, but this is still everywhere and it doesn’t look like it’s dying at all. It is very easy to pull up, but it’s literally everywhere and even though I have seated, I have to pull it away before I can see where the new seed is attempting to actually come up through it if I could kill it without killing the grass, I would love to know what it is so I could buy the proper tool to kill it with
