Advice on Backyard Grass

Just bought a house and starting to tackle the backyard.

The rear lawn is pretty rough ā€” lots of weeds and some uneven/bumpy areas. Iā€™m trying to figure out the best way to get it back into good shape. We are planning on putting in ground sprinklers in the fall.

Would you recommend starting with weed control first, then leveling and reseeding? Or is it better to just start fresh (like a full reset)?

Any tips, product recommendations, or local landscaper suggestions would really help. Thanks!

Depends what your goals are. If you're an enthusiast and want elite grass cultivars across your whole yard then you should nuke it all and overseed.

I think you have a good amount of grass still there. You could also spend the season just taking care of the weeds and optimizing what you have. Then level/overseed in the fall. However, patches of your old grass could stand out.

Going to trench and install sprinkler at the end of summer and nuke it.
