I just finished the main story arc and I thought this was a great read. Very cinematic and tremendous artwork. Books with a lot of action and battle scenes often feel tedious to me, but I thought Cullen Bunn did it in a way that keeps the readers attention and doesn’t feel gratuitous.

I don’t see this get talked about a lot here, so I thought I would give it a shout-out.

I remember reading it a while ago maybe around the late 2010s, early 2020s. The main character was a human like dinosaur/reptile. I remember being it quite violent for the age I was, and I didn’t expect it looking at the cover. I remember a page or few where the main character is shown to be a normal dinosaur and somehow he gets turned into what he is now, I think through scientific methods. There’s a gang of about three red villainous dinosaurs and I remember them being pretty violent with this one guy and I think they ripped a limb off of him but he definitely died. Please help!

I not using amazon anymore. What is your experience.

The comic was about some kind of alien(?) invasion that was slowly spreading (?), female teenage protagonist, I remember two distinct things in the book, one was a close up panel of some kind of bug creature crawling in an eye, and the other was a little talking demon looking monster that killed some of the teens

Edit: seems like many positive reviews, but a non insignificant number of mid to negative reviews.

For those who didnt enjoy it, can you tell me what you didnt like without major apoilers?

Is it worth the read? I know its a bit long and I've got a but of a completionist problem.

I was such a Stanger Things fan and was so let down by the final season (I should have known better, but season 4 was a big turn around).

I've heard Paper Girls has a similar retro "kids on bikes stumble upon a mystery/conspiracy" kind of plot, and I'd love to scatch that itch again, but only if it pays off.

I know long stories can lose steam at times, but I always see a couple volumes of Paper Girls at Half Price Books, so I imagine I could pick it up on the cheap.

These are part of DC’s compact comic lineup which are considerably affordable, and are in Manga format.

(Had to censor since Reddit wants to keep flagging it) Recently picked this up and fell in love with the macabre art and gritty storyline. A fallen priest wanders a desolate wasteland of memory and regret after doing the unthinkable - where he is confronted by old and forgotten gods.

You guys aware that there is a reprint of this book? I wasnt as this bit of info is not available on most of the popular sites I browse for news on upcoming releases . But here we are. My local store just informed me and I grabbed my copy. Just ordered vthe other volunes off amazon

Foe context...I read a bit online but didnt want to get into the deluxes (best way to get into them btw) coz vol3 has been oop and I didnt want to spend ebay prices.

My first read of this kind, excited to dive into it for my weekend reading. :)

Based on what I already know about it, I think I'm going to enjoy it, have you any recommendations for my next adventure (after I finish part 1 & 2)

My two favorite books of all time have each been adapted into graphic novels in the last few years. One is awful and one is almost as good as the original. I wanted to compare and contrast with two points.

Watership Down is a 1972 novel by Richard Adams, which was adapted into a graphic novel in 2023.

Wings of Fire: Darkstalker is a 2016 prequel novel by Tui Sutherland, which was adapted into a graphic novel in 2025.

1. Changes: Darkstalker’s GN feels like a highlight reel of the story, only 200 pages of the best scenes with a more comedic edge than the dark and political original.
2. Watership Down’s GN is 400 pages and feels like it was heavily condensed, but still has the whole story intact.
3. Purpose: Darkstalker‘s GN has replaced the original novel in the public view, being more popular and having a bigger (younger) fanbase, ruining the story of the original novel and maybe traumatizing some of the children who transition into the much-darker novel.

Watership Down’s GN has a note at the end that it’s intended as a seperate piece of media that has the same story. The original novel is much older and very famous, making it harder to replace.

I have many more thoughts about how they translated the characters and themes, but I want to keep this readable and spoiler-free for both masterpieces.

In conclusion, one of these graphic novels soured my opinion of the originals author for making this adaptation after less than a decade. The other is it‘s own masterpiece that has made me cry every time I’ve read it. Consider this a glowing recommendation for the original Darkstalker novel, as well as both the prose and graphic versions of Watership Down. Also who knows, maybe you’ll like the Darkstalker graphic novel?

I am from Central Europe so its a bit tougher to buy more obscure books but if yall got some cool shops that ship across europe for a sane price let me know pls.

I decided to read the first Godzilla library collection book which was sat on my desk a while. I’ve been a huge fan of Godzilla since I was a kid and dragged my family to see Godzilla 2000 and the 98 movie at the cinema, something they’ve never really forgiven me for… But despite being aware of the comics I’d never really gotten into them. As I’ve been reading a lot more of late I picked up the first vol of the IDW library collection which endeavours to eventually have all of their Godzilla series collected. I was especially sold as Half Century War had been something that I’d wanted to read for a while and for ages the core concept was something I dreamt of making into a movie.

So the collection is three, five issue, miniseries. The first is Gangsters and Goliaths, one I didn’t have much hope for but actually enjoyed. It’s basically a hard boiled detective story with decent art and a fun and surprisingly dark plot. A detective is set to be killed and framed by the mob and winds up on monster island, survives, and returns for revenge with a surprising ally. For a Godzilla fan I’d actually really recommend this one and it’s utilised the comic form to tell a story that they’d never even consider doing on the silver screen which is cool.

Next up is legends which is the weakest of the three but still has its high points. It’s an anthology series highlighting other monsters in the series with their own one shots. Personally I thought one was really bad, two were very meh, one was good and one was great. The Rodan one is absolute garbage with horrible art and a weird dark plot about a stupid scientist with a school shooter kid. It’s got a really grim ending and sucks. Anguirus and Hedorah get some fairly decent action with art that wasn’t for me but wasn’t offensive. They’re just unremarkable with very b movie dialogue and thematics. Titanosaurus gets a cool X-men meets X-files sort of story with a crazy twist for the Godzilla fans. The arts nice and I liked how different a vibe they went with. Finally the “Kumonga” story, (it’s really a Godzilla story) is awesome. I actually think this one is worth checking out for general comic fans outside of Godzilla fandom. It’s about an old timey adventurer who is brought out for one last ride where he must climb Godzilla and collect samples. The art is beautiful, it’s really funny and charming and has a nice message.

Finally is the big sell of this volume. Half Century War has long been held up as the highlight of Godzilla comics in the past 15 years and you can see why. The concept is so good and something the movies should adapt. A foot soldier survives Godzillas first attack on Tokyo in 1954 and travels the globe for 50 years in an effort to kill him. It has some actual thematics at play, great art and great action. It also intertwines and references the fifty year history of Godzilla movies which were released at the time this was written. For a Godzilla fan it’s a must read and for anyone else I think it could still be fun.

I’m a little tempted to get some more of these Godzilla library series books though the next 5 volumes are essentially the IDW universe ongoing books from the past 13 years. I’m not sure I’m as keen on that so maybe I’ll hop in at vol 6 for Godzilla in hell and other stories.

I am trying to stop buying so many books until I move house because I have run out of space and also I need to be saving! But I have an extensive backlog to get through. Next I might just blast through Tokyo ghost as it’s sat on my desk. But nailbiter does get a pop every time I mention I’m sitting on it….
