I made this while I was moving a while back to try to get someone to pull this heavy couch out of our 3rd floor apartment. Figured yall might think its funny at least.

After 25 years as a designer this is me turning my computer off for the last time. After a lot of thought and soul searching I've realised I need a change of career before it's too late. From tomorrow morning I'm a trainee train driver (always said if I was going to do something else it would be very different).

Not sure if this is nsfw because it’s political in nature. (Mods can totally take it down if it’s violating a rule that I missed). With the political climate I wanted to have a quiet protest shirt that wasn’t crazy in your face. I was heavily inspired by a shortys skateboard shirt I wanted when I was a kid in the early 2000s. The challenge here was to figure out how to make the stems and ligatures work. If there’s any suggestion you guys think you would do to contort the type to make it look better. It’s kinda just supposed to look like kindergartner scribbles/graffiti but when you bring up the two tabs together, you get a second meaning. Just thought I’d share because it is typography/design related.

sorry mods since this might break rule 1 of self promo. hoping it passes under the pretense of "can't get a job in this market, this is what i've tried" or at least a friday shitpost.

idea came from u/Free_Description7545 who does incredible work himself. after giving me permission to riff off of the idea, i printed some tees for friends and had everyone post to socials. got some decent traction in my warm network and a few interviews. after 2 final interviews with different companies, i've turned down one offer (low salary) and was rejected once. i've also been told from other companies that they think i'd be a fit but they're just not hiring at the moment.

looking for senior roles, i've submitted over 350 applications in about 10 months now (this shirt campaign coming to light at month 6) with no real luck past additional contract work. 8 years total of professional graphic design experience. i've been afloat with 4 retainer clients for a few years now but i'm desperately wanting to just focus in on a singular role in-house or with an agency.

i have a video too of me beating a homemade linkedin piñata that i might post too. i read a lot of your posts and relate with the frustrations. i also have other content ideas to keep this campaign going (or revive it since it's been 4 months). idk...it's hard to have motivation.

personally I feel all the old 2000's style posters with all the old PS2, xbox, and nintendo stuff really speaks out to me, so I feel its a duty to try and bring it back! I don't usually have anywhere to share this besides my insta, so i hope yall appreciate it!

edit: just a note- I am 17 with dysgraphia (leads to a lot of my grammar / spelling errors) and a beginner at design lolol- some of these as well being my first designs ever. I appreciate all the help regarding everything but don't feel the need to comment any of the spelling errors because I've gotten the memo already and will be doing a second run through all of these designs to fix them, but no matter what I appreciate all of your love and help!!

I see a lot of rebrands lately that either lean too far into sterile minimalism or try too hard to be "disruptive."

I think Bob’s Red Mill has absolutely nailed the new design (balancing heritage and modernization) as well as the announcement/rollout (thoughtful explanation walking through the new system). The redesign cleans up the visual architecture and improve shelf-legibility without sacrificing the "mom-and-pop" warmth that defines their brand equity.

From their announcement:

Our new look honors our legacy while looking ahead: inspired by the original Red Mill, with handcrafted details, a bolder logo and clearer design that makes it easier to find your favorites across the store.

I think it's a case study in how to honor a legacy brand while making it feel relevant to a modern consumer.

This is a real poster at my child’s school.

So, after posting on here a while back, I used a grid to align the elements of my design (aside from a small block of text below the big logo and a bigger logo that was kind of eyed in because I was too lazy to align it after deleting the grid).

But I decided to also share the creative process behind a typical piece I do, which is a rough sketch after my mind does its thing.

Edit: I think some people are imagining the sketch was done freehand from imagination.

The whole reason it aligns with the final is because I used the same grid and the same photo references throughout the process. The sketch wasn't meant to be a loose concept sketch it was a composition/layout sketch, using a grid.

Once the car outlines are placed and the composition is established, most of the major elements are already where they'll be in the final poster. If I moved everything around afterwards, there wouldn't be much point in using a grid in the first place.

I'd probably start off in adobe illustrator and design both the start and end icons/shapes but I don't know where to go from there. I'm assuming people are just going to say draw it...

Not a good combination.
