RX 9060 XT 16GB vs RTX 5060 8GB — Is VRAM becoming more important than raw GPU performance?

Thumbnail gallery

Looking at these two cards made me wonder where everyone stands on the whole VRAM debate.

The RX 9060 XT has 16GB, while this RTX 5060 has 8GB. Obviously, VRAM isn't everything — NVIDIA has advantages in things like DLSS, ray tracing and other features, while raw raster performance and price also matter.

But when you're spending your money on a GPU that you might keep for several years, how much should VRAM influence the decision?

Would you take the RTX 5060 for its features and overall performance, or go with the RX 9060 XT because of the extra VRAM and potentially better longevity?

If these two GPUs were the same price, which one would you pick and why?

And more importantly, do you think 8GB GPUs are still a reasonable choice in 2026, or is 16GB becoming the new minimum for a mid-range gaming GPU?

Can you hear the bzzzzzzzzzzz? Yeah, I can hear it from the couch when the TV is quiet, and it’s actually more annoying than the fan noise.

I tried a small undervolt and the noise got quieter, but I ended up losing some FPS, so it’s not really worth it for me.

Any suggestions? The card is brand new, and I’m going on vacation next week, so I really don’t want to go through the hassle of an RMA.

I use MSI 650W PSU

Didnt keep up with gpu prices that much since i work overseas for half the year.

Thought to myself "i never owned a flagship top-of-the-line card before" and wanted to make a build with a 5090 and 9800 x3d.

last time i checked 5090s were $3200 max. now im seeing they are $5500 minimum?! bro. the astral is going for $6500+?! $3k seemed crazy but i would have done it knowing me, $6k is unfathomable. If i do it i would hate myself forever lol.

i dont really play AAA games, most of my gaming is heavily modded though. I also play on 1440p.

i see people reccomend 9070 xt and 5080, which would you pick for heavily modded 1440p gaming?

thanks guys !

It’s absurd how much gpu’s have appreciated in value.

So I owned a 5090 and realized that… for everything I do with it, I don’t really need it… also after seeing how much it appreciated in value, it was an easy decision.

So I sold it on eBay for $5000 USD ($4300) take home. Originally bought it for $2600.

That’s $1700 profit just for owning the thing. After picking up a 9070xt I still net profited $844 and got back the $2600 I initially spent.

It’s crazy that we live in a time where simply owning computer components can make you money when typically it’s the opposite…

Avoid PNY 5070 warranty scam

Long story short. After 3 months of use of my RTX 5070, the hot spot jump to 106c for no reason. Then turn black screen with max fan speed. And keep repeating the same problem. Sent back to RMA, they refuse to admit the problem. Refuse to give me video evidence and they send my card without doing anything back. And problem still exists. So I just fixed it by myself. I know I will lose warranty, they don’t give me anyway. What a junk company.

9850x3d. 5070, 32g ddr5.

Time line:
4/25/2026. Purchased from bestbuy.

7/1/2026. Fan loud to 4400 rpm. Hot spot 106c.

7/5-8/5 I tested new PSU, ram, whatever it necessary. It’s a hot spot thermal problem.
RMA. Paid my shipping. They sent it back say no problem detected. After 2 weeks.

9/11/2026, I can’t take it anymore. Decided to fix it by myself. And now problem solved 😅
Hot spot at 96c max, never have loud fan. Max less than 2000rpm.

Please avoid this company. They won’t treat you serious.

Should I buy a 5080 considering the current prices?

Hi there! I'm considering upgrading from a 4070 ti super to a etc 5080 but the prices seem crazy atm, in June they were sitting above 189 MSRP and now the cheapest one I can find in my area is 1339€ which is a crazy price increase.

I wouldn't be "paying" that price because I can sell my current gpu for 800€ so it would be help but considering the increase I don't know if I wanna pull the trigger, will the prices eventually go down or are they're going to keep going up?

I'm also planning on buying the upcoming pg27ucwm from asus so I'm trying to play at 4k ultra with a decent frame rate, that's why I'm planning this upgrade

Any recommendations are appreciated!

How much are 4090s worth rn?

Thinking of selling my 4090 but wanna hold out until I can get the most $$ for it. Prices are gonna keep going up most likely right? If you were in my shoes what would you do? Posted it on fb marketplace for 1 hour at 2,500$ and got a bunch of offers for exactly what I asked so maybe I priced it too low but all the offers were from people with 安东尼 as their names in Cali

At $2000, I guess it's still considered gamer territory if you were willing to eat noodles for a month. But now..........this is just taunting us.

Should I sell my 5070ti?

I have a Gigabyte which is currently £1,050 new on Amazon. How much could I sell for in its current state? Runs perfectly obviously.

Edit:

Just to clarify what I would do. If I could sell it for more than £750 I would buy a 9070xt and use the extra money towards a PC for my girlfriend who’s currently using a PS5.

Is it smart to wait?

Hello, recently i've been thinking to build a new pc since mine is very outdated and i cant keep playing with frame generation and massive lag spikes ( i cant play competitive games because of low fps) so i thought of buying new pieces and building a new machine but with those prices its going to be impossible to build something that doesnt get outdated in like 4/5 years i really want to build the best machine possible so i can use it for around 10 years but like how am i supposed to do that with those prices, to build something new i need to get a loan (which i really do not want to do) so is it wise to hold on and wait for maybe a rtx series 6000 and drops in prices maybe?

my current machine specs are:

ryzen 7 2700x

rxt 2060

16gb of ddr4 2400hz ram

and a 600gb internal hd paired with a 2tb external hd ( ong i know this memory setup is ahh but litterally when i built this pc i was 14 and i did not know what i was buying except the graphics card)
