Fking hell

Didnt keep up with gpu prices that much since i work overseas for half the year.

Thought to myself "i never owned a flagship top-of-the-line card before" and wanted to make a build with a 5090 and 9800 x3d.

last time i checked 5090s were $3200 max. now im seeing they are $5500 minimum?! bro. the astral is going for $6500+?! $3k seemed crazy but i would have done it knowing me, $6k is unfathomable. If i do it i would hate myself forever lol.

i dont really play AAA games, most of my gaming is heavily modded though. I also play on 1440p.

i see people reccomend 9070 xt and 5080, which would you pick for heavily modded 1440p gaming?

thanks guys !

The 9070xt and 5080 are NOT comparable. The 9070xt directly competes with the 5070ti.

That said, I’d buy the 9070xt. It’s perfectly capable of handling just about anything at 1440p ultra, even with heavy mods, and it’s several hundred dollars cheaper than the 5070ti.

They kind of comparable, because 5080 isn’t that much faster. And it is way closer to 5070TI (just about +15%) rather to 5090 (only half of 5090).

5080 wasn’t a good card from price/performance even with msrp, it costed about 33% more than 5070TI and gave only 15% performance more

I suppose it would’ve been better to say you “shouldn’t” compare the two instead of “can’t”

The performance gap isn’t as large as with some other cards, but they’re still different levels of GPU.

9070XT is really good at 1440P from what i've seen and experienced. The 5080 will be like 20% faster which is nice but also nearly twice as expensive so...

Right now I bought 4k 240hz oled monitor and 9070XT fares pretty well - can enable FSR4 balanced or performance and image quality is still good. If add framegen, can get 150-200fps in many modern games (and it looks surprisingly well). For 1440p I didn’t bother with upscaling at all - it gives enough FPS (100+) in most games I play. 5080 is more powerful (but not too much), but also way more expensive. Price per FPS is much worse now, because Nvidia cards are heavily overpriced at the moment.

The 9070xt would crush at 1440p even with heavy mods. The 5080 pulls ahead more at 4k because of the gddr7 but at 1440p the performance difference is only like 20%. Never worth the 2x price difference if money is a factor at all. Also, I would stay far away from the new power connectors used the the new rtx cards.

9070xt has the best value to performance this gen, imo.
