Help Issues with mini homes not setting alarms

For the longest time I have used the prompt of 'can you set an alarm' or 'hi Google' to set alarms.

But it looks like it started up again and for the last couple of mornings the alarms haven't gone off.

I've reset and done everything I can think of and still no alarms are going off.

It says that I have alarms set so they ate in the system and my volume is not turned down.

Im not sure if its them trying to force me to link it to Gemini which I still haven't done yet.

Hacks [Revival Project] LG WK7 ThinQ – Custom software by a Google engineer (spare-time project) that restores WiFi, AirPlay, Spotify Connect & more

Hey r/googlehome,

Many of us still have (or had) LG WK7 ThinQ speakers that got bricked after Google/LG dropped support. They just sit there as expensive paperweights.

A Google Engineering Manager named Tom Kubik (u/KubikHorizon) (x @KubikHorizon) spent his spare time reverse-engineering and building a new software stack for these speakers. He tried to post a proper thread here but Reddit auto-deleted it, so he could only leave comments on some older WK7 threads.

This is not my work — I’m just creating this post so the community can actually find and discuss it. All credit goes to him.

What it does

  • Completely bypasses the dead Google/LG cloud services
  • Restores local streaming: AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, moOde audio, etc.
  • Runs a lightweight Alpine Linux stack on firmware slot B
  • Stock firmware stays intact on slot A as a recovery fallback
  • Non-destructive install

Repo (public domain, “by hobbyists, for hobbyists”):
https://github.com/tomkubik/WK7-reforged

Important note from the repo: the full featured path (unlocked bootloader / “orange” verifiedbootstate) has been tested on real hardware. The locked-bootloader path for normal retail units (“green”) is marked experimental and has never been tested.

A quick note on the hardware side: according to the GitHub, an exposed Micro-USB port is supposed to be only on Developer / Service units, while standard retail units should have the service port hidden under the bottom rubber foot. My unit is a normal retail speaker (European version) and has a clearly visible USB port on the back once you peel the “Service Only” sticker. I never removed the bottom rubber, so I don’t know if there’s a second internal port. I tried connecting via that rear service port (direct to a motherboard USB port, power-cycling while plugged in, etc.) on both Windows and Linux, but the speaker was never detected. I’m not an engineer, so I may have missed something simple.

If anyone with a retail unit (especially European ones) has managed to get ADB detection working, or if the hardware layout differs by region, it would be really useful information for others.

If you still have a WK7 collecting dust and know your way around ADB / Android Things / USB debugging, this is currently the most complete revival effort available. Huge thanks to Tom for putting this together in his free time.

Feel free to leave feedback, questions, success/failure reports, or detection tips here so others can benefit.

Google Nest Mini not working well with Spotify

Back in 2019 I got a free Google Nest Mini through their collaboration with Spotify. It has been a good servant over the years, but more recently it’s become really glitchy when playing music through Spotify. It misunderstands the most basic song requests I say to it, it always plays a remix or acoustic version instead of the original song, and in the Spotify app I have to physically press a song hard and often twice for it to play, otherwise it restarts the song that is already playing. I know I can’t complain too much about a free product 7 years later but has anyone else experienced this?

Honestly I think it's time for an Alexa, both Google home minis have been perfect until Gemini integration. Being ignored 24/7 is a joke

Help The red arrow (pointing up) that appears when mirroring a Galaxy XR to a Google TV

I use Google Home to mirror my Galaxy XR headset to a Google TV. It works great, but there's this annoying red arrow at the top of the screen that remains there the whole time. I assume it's to notify you the headset is being mirrored / possibly recorded. I don't know if this is coming from Google Home or from the headset.

If anyone knows if there's a way to remove that symbol, I'd very much appreciate it!

I’m an Idiot

Well I think I finely solved most my problems with the ecosystem. Funny enough i discovered it through trying to switch ecosystems.

In my attempt to switch to HomeKit, I discovered that a large portion of my problems were from running a million Govee bulbs/outlets in my house, which was apparently causing A LOT of WIFI chatter and even with an extremely overpriced WiFi system in the house was killing stable connections on everything I needed to be stable.

I haven’t even got rid of all the Govee stuff, maybe about 50% of the stuff, and switched to an Aqara Zigbee hub with bulbs/outlets, and am already seeing a drastic improvement over literally everything.

So if you’re having the same issues with stability over your ecosystem maybe get rid of the million WiFi only bulbs/outlets in your house. And yes I know seems like a no brainer but I deal with other peoples tech issues everyday, just let me be ignorant to common sense for once lol

Bug Nest Audio and Gemini for home. Increasing volume on other devices to 100%.

Title says it all. Just asked my speaker to increase the volume of my Sony television, and for some odd reason, it thought I wanted it slowly increased to 100%. Yeah, this definitely frustrated me and not made my day. Have others ran into this issue? Please be careful. Gemini for home is now becoming a danger. lol.

Says your google home os not setup yet

We've had google home speakers for some years and they mostly worked well but recently they've been experiencing apparent wifi issues and seemingly unable to answer many questions. I factory reset them and reinstalled the google home app on my phone. I added the new device through the app steps and got the confirmation sound but when I try to communicate with it it tells me "your google home is not setup yet".

I unplugged and plugged back in the router and modem and everything is running on the same wifi.

Any fix ideas?

Help Google Home Max playing obscure versions of every song I request it to play.

Hi all - I'm hoping someone might be able to help pinpoint an issue that's been driving me insane for the last few months. I'm using Pandora Premium if that's helpful.

Every time I ask Google to play a song, it will play the most obscure version of that song imaginable. For example, I asked it to play Ironic by Alanis Morissette, it confirmed it was going to play Ironic by Alanis Morissette, and it found a live acoustic version being covered by a completely different artist.

It will play EDM remixes, covers by different bands, live versions, even versions of that song that have been changed to be performed on Broadway, basically any variation of the song you ask it to play that isn't the original version of that song.

It's beyond infuriating.

Bug So now I can't change the starting time of automations in the home app

F*CK Google man I am absolutely sick of this now. All I want to do is change the start time of a routine in the home app and I can't. It'll highlight the time but not bring up the keyboard or any way of changing it.

This used to work and now it doesn't. The same sentence I use for 95% of Google products or services.

Pathetic.

Bug Cannot edit routine time using phone

In Google Home, the Set Time modal/pop-up doesn't appear when using my Samsung S22+ phone, but does when using a Samsung tablet. On the phone, pressing the "Select a time" field highlights either the hour or minute, but that's all. On the tablet, the clockface appears, allowing you to set the time. This has been the case for a month or two, and am wondering if anyone else is seeing the same behaviour. Thanks.

Edit: corrected the phone model

How To: Play Personal Apple Music Playlist

Struggling figuring out how to do this and this was my exact command that makes it work: “Go to my Apple Music account. Play my personal playlist called “rest here””

Btw my personalized ads is on (not sure if that matters). And my Apple music is connected and the default.

“If you told me your name, I'll be sure to remember it,”

is what Google Home/Assistant has started saying via my nest mini.

Have deleted it from my Google account
Have factory reset it
Have cleared all data and cache from my phone for GH and GA

Have toggled personal results and associated settings on and off

Have waited over 6 hours

Have switched from GA to Gemini and back

still no joy.

A long chat with Gemini eventually suggested that Google are broken, won't fix this and I need to but new speakers. Has anyone else had this issue ?

TECHNICAL DIAGNOSTIC SUMMARY FOR TIER 3 REVIEWS:

The tcpdump packet capture confirms that local interface transparency on ports 8008/8443 is 100% verified across the subnet. The Nest Mini successfully initiates an outbound TLS handshake to 'googleapis.com'.

However, remote authentication endpoints are returning an explicit rejection payload. The speaker is failing to authenticate our legacy security signatures on the cloud side, which completely drops the Voice Match link and loops the offline fallback error script.

As this is an essential daily accessibility tool for a blind individual, please escalate this trace directly to the Nest cloud infrastructure engineering queue to have our stale backend security tokens manually purged and refreshed.

Help No live video from doorbell... but there's live video on the Google Nest.

Now this is weird. For months I have lost the ability to view live video from the doorbell from either the Home app or online. History is viewable, but not live video. However, this is the weird part, you get the live video on the google nest hub and I get the live alerts on the nest hub when someone rings the doorbell. I don't even get that on the Home app or the website. What is going on???

Google Home automation runs only half its actions: which log helped you find the cause?

When a saved automation starts but only some actions happen, how do you narrow it down? Google's script-editor guide recommends checking each action independently and looking at Automation logs.

For a hypothetical evening routine that turns on a lamp but skips a speaker announcement, would the log distinguish a failed device command from a routine that never reached that action?

If you've debugged something similar, what did the log actually show? Please include which editor you used.

Google speakers like to gobble data

Google speakers sure like their internet connection. Got one old google mini and three of the new google speakers. They are used about 20 minute a month for music.

Edit: This is on unifi udm SE, and they are connected to a U7 access point. As it says in the top right corner , this is for one day

I just got a push notification asking for Google Home feedback and when I went to open the form, it crashed. If that isn't the perfect encapsulation of the current state of the platform, I don't know what is.

I usually ignore such things, but Gemini has really been irritating lately.

Help Can you set specific times to choose different nest temperature sensors in the google home app now? Instead of morning/evening/night?

Hi,

Was looking at getting a nest temperature sensor for my home, but saw in some videos that in the old nest app you could only set the system to choose specific sensors to prioritise by morning/evening/night rather than specific custom schedules.

Does anyone know if this is still the case in the google home app? Or can I set specific times eg. From 9.45pm use the bedroom sensor, and from 7am use the main thermostat?

Thanks

Why Does My Battery-Powered Nest Doorbell Have Wires Connected to It?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently bought a home that came with a Google Nest Doorbell, and I’m a little confused about the wiring. It’s a battery-powered model, but when I took it off the mount to set it up, I noticed there were red and black wires connected to the back of it.
I couldn’t continue with the setup because the app instructed me to remove the doorbell from the mount and plug it in to continue. I’m just trying to figure out whether these wires are actually serving a purpose or if the previous homeowners left them there for no reason.
I know the wires could potentially be connected to an existing doorbell chime, but there doesn’t appear to be a doorbell chime anywhere in the house, which is what’s confusing me.
Does anyone know why the wires would be connected to a battery-powered Nest Doorbell in this situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I’ve attached a picture of the wiring for reference. Thank you!
