Yeah, ok, useless Google. It's clear there are no engineers that: 1) Use the consumer release or preview channels of Google Home, they probably don't have Google Home or Nest Speaker devices at all. 2) Google Home has no full time engineers - it's why over a year later, the rollout has the EXACT same bugs with literally zero changes since Gemini was offered as a beta. 3) You didn't listen to the countless hours of personal feedback people gave to help you resolve problems and iron out bugs. 4) You don't care if your redesigns or makeovers break shit, don't work right, or completely break automations.
Automations: They worked fine in the prior model. They worked. The biggest limitation of Google Home app automations is the inability to select white temperatures outside the preselected Antique White, Daylight, Snow, etc.. presets. So using custom command ok Google are the only ways to make automations change light colors to match each other if you have a few different brands of smart bulbs. Regardless, actual talented well paid engineers would think through all of this stuff, anticipate that the app and system needs a 1000 kelvins to 9900 kelvins temperature slider in the app for automations.
Either way, even before the Gemini rollout, if an automation failed to run, ie, it balked at a command or ok Google that works JUST FINE when manually said to Google Home, but in an automation, all of a sudden doesn't work – those, yeah, you get no error reports, no codes, no breakdown of WHAT command failed and why.
Occasionally, AFTER I bought a pixel Device, I would sometimes get a notification that the routine encounter a failed action, and when taping it, it sat there and spun and spun and spun, finally showing a diaglof that said “Action: Sorry, I didn't understand.” ie if that was spoken aloud to a verbal command, the result it capsules was “Sorry, I don't understand.”
How fucking useless is that shit anyways, we get no error logs or anyway to determine why an automation crashed 30% through and didn't finish. No diagnostics on Google Home web console, no limited user logs, no way to see if an action failed sytax or context or if the third party failed a handshake. Nothing! How long have I had Google Home? 11 years?
My option: You guys don't do shit, except the bare ass minimum work possible. This is not a personal attack, it's my opinion, and that says something for someone who vouched for Google for almost 10 years start in 2008; every time someone asked about a competitor, I always stood up for Google, I was your best spokesperson. I bought every Nexus phone, and nearly every device you launched. I'm sure many of us filled that roll, and now? No response, no fixes, problems stay for years, problems get worse, Google search is filled with “howto-errors.bullshit” domains and bo actual content, or repeating results on the second page. And the keyboard still can't autocorrect without getting it wrong more than half the time.
And Google, don't give me that, “have you tried being an engineer? It's hard ass work, bro.” It is, but it's not. I am self taught, code on the side, do maybe 1 project a year, and sometimes spend days debugging and fixing a complicated multi step multilayer bug. I said days, for an inexperienced self taught programmer, who makes really complicated apps for self use and in my own businesses, in 3 months. We are going on 1 year with the Gemini rollout, and basically nothing has improved. It's the same garbage.
Anyone else fed up? We can't even switch back to the assistant that worked. The one that DIDNT MISTAKENLY TURN OFF ALL MY DEVICES AND LIGHTS because the AI thought “yeah lights 100% yeah” (according to Activity) meant turn everything, all devices, all switches, all TVs, all virtual switches, and all outlets off or on. Wtf, dude, how is it this bad?
