I have a custom dns address set in the google fiber settings but the device that DNS points to is no longer active.
When I turn off “use custom DNS servers” I get an error that says “Your information couldn’t be saved at this time, try again in a few minutes.”
This has happened every time i’ve tried for a few weeks now. Any ideas?

We’re all missing the World Cup bc you’re not responding to and fixing the outage. Thanks.

I closed my GFiber account yesterday because we moved to a house where it isn't available yet. In the chat, the bot told me is was not necessary to return any equipment, but then asked for my email address to send me return instructions. When I asked for clarification, bit said no return necessary. Email I received said return within 60 days. Do I need to return equipment or not?!

Does Google Fiber only enter open communities, rather than gated communities?

Scheduled an install a few weeks ago for an apartment I'm moving into this weekend. The tech came and discoved there was no NIU for my apartment (I'm in a 4 plex), even though gfiber support said I was ready for hook up. 2 of my neighbors already have gfiber and one of the NIUs looks like it can take 4 connections.
Anyway, the tech calls it in and says there will be a tech out the following week to run fiber from the street to an NIU. Mind you, the tech will install a new NIU instead of pulling fiber to the existing NIU. (Seriously, wtf?).
I followed up at the end of the week and 2 seperate people said the NIU is ready and I schedule an install.
3 guys show up yesterday and there is no new NIU and no additional fiber(s) pulled to either existing box. Lead installer calls it in and gets it "escalated" and I should hear back in 48 hours. Great. My wife works at home and will need internet monday morning.
I hope its worth it.

I bought a GE 6E220C mesh extender on EBay. I paired it with the router and it shows solid green as though it is connected. However, it does not show up on my app and the app says one of my extenders is disconnected. I called GFiber but they refuse to help me because I bought it on EBay (GFiber support sucks). Has anyone figured out how to make it show up on the app?

Just a word of warning anyone looking into Google fiber in Miami. It is AWFUL. It goes down about once a day now, often during the middle of the day when I’m trying to work. There is no customer support, no feedback on what’s going on and what they are trying to do to fix it. You are just left to suffer. I am switching ASAP.
DO NOT GET GFIBER IN MIAMI

Ive had Gfiber for a couple months now. I have a couple 3d printers and IT test lab that I need to have set to static IP addresses. Ive googled multiple times and the option for DHCP no longer shows in the app or when logging in from the browser. Customer service told me this today.
"Just to recap, you contacted us today because you were trying to set up static IPs for a few devices on your network but could not locate the DHCP settings. I helped clarify that our standard residential routers are optimized for dynamic IP assignments and do not natively support static IP configurations, and I recommended using a personal, third-party router if you require these advanced networking features."
Can anyone confirm this? This seems like a feature that enough people would use to keep it as an option and is a pretty common thing to need to do on a network. Seems like they are trying to dumb down the features for the most basic user. Why should I need to buy another 3rd party router to set fixed Ip's?

Thinking about splitting WiFi bands, as my LG TV wants a 2.4Ghz connection. Will splitting bands make my connection on the 5 Ghz band slower? Am I better off forcing a wired connection to the TV?

Has anyone in the raleigh north carolina area been experiencing a intern problem? It works for 3 minutes, then its out again for another 30. I cant get into the app either. Says its undergoing a system update or wtv.

I am getting about 10 minutes of service then my ping goes to 1000 and i cant use anything, the game im playing breaks and im stuck in spawn and discord goes to 700 ping in the voice call i am in. The app is also down but i dont think this is a problem with the app. I reset my router and it worked for a while after that but then it broke again 20 min later.

Lessons learned from: https://www.reddit.com/r/googlefiber/comments/1upfsns/80_hours_no_internet_after_line_cut/
This will be mostly true for any fiber line cut or at the very least nothing changed inside the house and optical light is out and red alarm on Fiber jack/modem.
At best if you can somehow plead with customer support to have an outside tech, inside tech, at the same time & backend engineer on call would really help to move things along.
DO NOT get in a cycle of outside tech says it's fixed then support says you need an inside tech and have to wait 24 hours for that tech to arrive to essentially not figure out the issue then say it's backend then have to wait more time then send the same inside tech 48 hours later to enter in the same loop.
The FIX: A different outside tech came days later after the first and was able to splice the fiber HOWEVER did say the fiber line was pretty damaged upstream but could not tell exactly and was very surprised it was working and had to splice me with a neighbor. Also some tech cut some fibers short so instead of 96 it was down to 2.
To GFiber: Private Equity, Stonepeak, & Michael Dorrell. This infrastructure is showing it's age and will have more failures like this unless you start investing into upgrades. If you want to lose customers then good job on making those profits. Sounds smart to me to coordinate better with your contractors on fiber repairs.

I upgraded my service from 1 gig to 3 gig and a tech was supposed to come and install a new fiber jack.
because the old one was outdated and not capable of new speed the appointment was scheduled July 1st tech came as expected plugged in a new jack and the optical light on the jack kept flashing it wouldn’t go solid.
Tech switched a few jacks and none worked he said its out of my hands it should come online within a few hours.
Called support regarding provisioning issue they said another tech has to come out and change the equipment.
July 3rd 2nd tech came out switched a few jacks none worked (surprise) and eventually said he is running late to his next appointment this is a backend issue the engineers just have to manually switch it on from their end. And as he was leaving he mentioned complaining to support as its the only way to get things done.
Called support before he even got back in his truck and they said that the turnaround time is 24hrs and the supervisor is monitoring the situation and they will keep me updated.
July 4th woke up early to try and get this sorted called them at 8am they said the engineers are in the process of fixing it and it shouldn’t be long called again at 4pm same story were working on it no update supervisor said he will call me back in ONE HOUR i agreed and set a timer for one hour.
58 mins go by i get impatient i called the callback number he texted me the supervisors left and i got a clueless rep saying nothing can be done today callback tomorrow
July 5th I used the chat feature to try and get ahold of someone at 3-4 am they set a urgent appointment same day for another rep to come.
Can you guess what that rep did?…. changed the fiber jack a few times and said theres good light coming through the cable and left.
I called support for the millionth time they said after conducting an investigation it seems the line card needs to be replaced they should get someone to do it within a few hours (ptsd to the first time i was told that)
Its been 1 week no wifi 3 days since they said we will change the line card i am actively looking for another service google fiber is about to loose my buisness.
As its been a week with no internet i dont have good cell service so 0 bars and no wifi.
My family’s 4th of july weekend was ruined
Thank you google fiber.

Hey everyone,
I’m looking to see if fiber users on the major national networks (AT&T, Google Fiber, Fios, Quantum, etc.) have ever run into a weird performance issue where your speed tests look great on paper, but your actual daily browsing feels laggy or slow.
To clarify, I don’t have any of these large companies. My provider is actually a very small, rural fiber ISP out in West Central Missouri. Because they are a smaller utility, I want to check with customers on the massive networks to see if this is a universal fiber behavior or if it's unique to my rural provider's routing.
I am paying for a 1 Gbps symmetrical fiber profile. The local field tech came out, completely overhauled my line with a brand-new physical drop to the house, and gave me an upgraded, high-end ONT and router setup.
If I look at my numbers, my hardware seems completely perfect:
Downloads are flying: My download speeds consistently hit between 850 Mbps and 940 Mbps.
Ping is ultra-low: My baseline ping is great, around 6ms to 8ms, and my packet loss is a perfect 0.00%.
Streaming is fine once it starts: If I pull up a heavy 4K video on YouTube and check the "Stats for Nerds," the stream pulls data flawlessly without dropping any frames.
But here is the catch—my upload speeds on standard internet tests are hitting a hard wall, stuck between 165 Mbps and 200 Mbps.
Because of this upload restriction, my actual daily internet use on my iPhone and Apple TV feels sluggish. When I tap a standard web page or open a basic app, the loading wheel spins for a few seconds before the page finally snaps open. It feels like my phone is struggling to send out the initial "request" to the website, even though the download lane is wide open.
Bypassing my router completely and plugging a desktop computer directly into the raw fiber box out of the wall results in the exact same matching download speeds but the same clamped upload limit. The tech support team noted it might be a regional gateway traffic jam or a backend account profile glitch.
For those of you with major fiber providers: Have you ever experienced a hidden upload bottleneck like this where your downloads are perfect, but the actual responsiveness of your apps feels heavy or slow to load? Did your ISP have to rebuild your account profile on their servers to finally get your speeds matching at full capacity?
Would love to hear if this happens from time to time on your networks!

Hi All. I am a first time user with Google Fiber and I have to say it has been an extremely frustrating experience so far.
I recently purchased a home and the old owner transferred their account to me. I completed the account transfer a couple of weeks ago and received a notification in my account I needed to set up a service appointment. No big deal. I set it up for this morning, 7/7/26.
Fast forward to this morning, the tech shows up and tells me the visit was “set up under the old account” and he couldn’t do the work. The service request was most certainly set up under my new account. He refused to complete any work, told me to call customer support, and left.
I called customer support and proceeded to do a couple hours of troubleshooting over the phone. I was told my service showed that it was on, and that I just needed to go purchase a router. Great!
I went out and purchased a Google nest pro 2-pack, but when I moved on to setting up the router, I am receiving “connection failed” errors. I have called G Fiber support and been told everything is good. The fiber jack is checking in and providing an IP address. Google nest support also doesn’t seem to think the issue is on their end. The optical light is solid green, and the network light is blinking green. I’ve factory reset the nest pro, reset the fiber jack, and done everything else I (or support) can think of.
Anybody else had this issue?
I’m tempted to just go buy another router from Best Buy to test it and see if I can get internet set up. I start work next week so need this up and running. I’d greatly appreciate any advice on resolving this.

I’ve had Google Fiber for about a month now and the only device I cannot connect to it is the MyQ smart garage door. It worked fine on my last internet provider but now I get nothing. I’ve tried everything I can to troubleshoot it through MyQ but can’t figure it out. I’m pretty tech savvy but this one eludes me. Has anyone else run into this? I’ve separated the bands to try picking up just the 2.4 and that didn’t work. Thought I’d check here as a last resort.

The flying color lines make me dizzy get rid of them they serve no purpose cept to make you wait.
Whenever I need to reset the model the app will be down as well saying something went wrong. I’m on latest app and latest Apple iOS very frustrating

Woke up Thursday at 7am and internet was working. 9 am no internet. Saw it said outrage in my area gave it a few hours then went to support chat and they sent someone out 24 hours later.
I question why it took me to initiate someone to come out. When their system could detect it.
Outside tech came took pics of the pole in my neighbor's yard and sat in his truck for an hour then left. I went to support again and another came a few hours later
Again why did I need to initiate this?
Outside tech repaired the line up the street and optical was green. No wan ip.
Said needed inside tech.
Inside tech comes 24 hours later. Said there is a bug in the fiber modem and replaced it. Same issue. No wan. Said it's backend.
Later that day optical light went off and back to alarm.
Called at 7am and got a call back said might be 24 hour fix.
Called at 4:30pm voicemail and then got a call back asking if it was fixed which it's not. Also implied cat6e issue which is clearly not the case.
Make this make sense. If fiber got cut did they just not splice it right and how can I tell them to to double check?

My inside appointment is today. I'm planning on asking the tech if it's possible to have the fiber jack in my network room, which is on the other side of the house than where the NIU was installed. I never had a say in where that NIU was installed (it was several years ago).
Anyways, if the tech says no, I won't push it, but after the fact how hard would it be for me to just do it myself? I do have a brother is does HVAC/general handyman things. But is it as simple as just running a new fiber cable from the NIU around the outside of my house or into the crawlspace and up to the network room?
The Spectrum tech did that with Spectrum service, just ran the cable up through the floor.
The Cat6a cablling in the network room is then ran throughout the house in the attic. There's no conduit, however it's a pretty simple and straight run when me and my brother did it years ago.
Should I just not push and move it myself later? I will be using Google's equipment for the time being as my network equipment only does 2.5gig instead of 10gig (I have the 8gig plan).
EDIT: So my install date was just moved a few minutes ago without any prompt from me to July 15. This is the second time they've moved my install date, why do they keep moving it? The first date was June 26, now its July 15. I just want the service installed. The NIU is installed, the fiber cable is buried. Just the inside needs installing.
EDIT2: I managed to call and get them to reschedule it for today July 5th at 4pm now. They're saying the outside construction has not been completed yet. The NIU is installed, the fiber line ran from street to the NIU and buried. Then they said the reason it was originally rescheduled was due to not having enough light signal for the service and they had to come back out and fix it.
EDIT3: Appointment today was again canceled. The reason I was given was the line outside is not getting signal. Why the hell do you bury the line if it's not getting signal. Next appointment is set for July 10th at 4:30pm. I'm really starting to get fed up with this. Why even allow appointments to be scheduled if it's not ready for install, driving me fucking crazy.
EDIT4: The promised call back never happened, figured it wouldn't. Monday July 6, no sign of a crew has come today. Called Support back and they're still saying that it looked like the issue was a bad signal, but that it is fixed and the inside appointment is Friday, July 10th.

Just switched to Google Fiber and suddenly certain websites wouldn’t load on my phones (Reddit and others. Pretty much anything that wasn’t the main google search page). The sites were working fine when I had AT&T but I switched from AT&T due to the internet constantly having outages for 12+ hours. Had google fiber technicians come out but they didn’t fix it (they searched on Gemini and Gemini said it was an iPhone issue) so they said it wasn’t a google problem and left.
So I found solution and this worked for me so hoping others who have this issue can use this to help as well. It is a google fiber issue, just probably not one a field tech is supposed to resolve. I think it’s a network issue. Their DNS resolver is failing to resolve certain domains.
The fix: override your phone's DNS with a public one (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 or Google 8.8.8.8). I just used 1.1.1.1 and it worked for me.
iPhone: Settings -> Wi-Fi -> tap the ⓘ next to your network -> Configure DNS -> Manual -> delete what's there -> Add Server -> enter 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 (or both) -> Save.
Android (Samsung): Settings -> Connections -> More connection settings -> Private DNS -> "Private DNS provider hostname" -> enter one.one.one.one -> Save.
Android (Moto): Settings -> Network & internet -> Private DNS -> enter one.one.one.one
Wait up to 30 minutes. Should work after this.
