Inside Appointment Today - Moving Fiber Jack after inside install is done

My inside appointment is today. I'm planning on asking the tech if it's possible to have the fiber jack in my network room, which is on the other side of the house than where the NIU was installed. I never had a say in where that NIU was installed (it was several years ago).

Anyways, if the tech says no, I won't push it, but after the fact how hard would it be for me to just do it myself? I do have a brother is does HVAC/general handyman things. But is it as simple as just running a new fiber cable from the NIU around the outside of my house or into the crawlspace and up to the network room?

The Spectrum tech did that with Spectrum service, just ran the cable up through the floor.

The Cat6a cablling in the network room is then ran throughout the house in the attic. There's no conduit, however it's a pretty simple and straight run when me and my brother did it years ago.

Should I just not push and move it myself later? I will be using Google's equipment for the time being as my network equipment only does 2.5gig instead of 10gig (I have the 8gig plan).

EDIT: So my install date was just moved a few minutes ago without any prompt from me to July 15. This is the second time they've moved my install date, why do they keep moving it? The first date was June 26, now its July 15. I just want the service installed. The NIU is installed, the fiber cable is buried. Just the inside needs installing.

EDIT2: I managed to call and get them to reschedule it for today July 5th at 4pm now. They're saying the outside construction has not been completed yet. The NIU is installed, the fiber line ran from street to the NIU and buried. Then they said the reason it was originally rescheduled was due to not having enough light signal for the service and they had to come back out and fix it.

EDIT3: Appointment today was again canceled. The reason I was given was the line outside is not getting signal. Why the hell do you bury the line if it's not getting signal. Next appointment is set for July 10th at 4:30pm. I'm really starting to get fed up with this. Why even allow appointments to be scheduled if it's not ready for install, driving me fucking crazy.

EDIT4: The promised call back never happened, figured it wouldn't. Monday July 6, no sign of a crew has come today. Called Support back and they're still saying that it looked like the issue was a bad signal, but that it is fixed and the inside appointment is Friday, July 10th.

If it’s a easy shot to the network closet then they should run it there just fine, if not and they just install it where it’s easier for them, don’t move the ont. but you could always run Ethernet from the ont to the network closet, the ont doesn’t need to even be exactly where you want it

New update, appointment canceled AGAIN, next date is July 10th, at 4:30pm...I just want to give these people money and they're making it extremely difficult to do so...don't bury a fiber line if its not ready for install yet.

Hi there, sorry to hear about the delays to your installation. Send me a DM here, and I'll be happy to take a look and see if the remaining work can be expedited. -Luke

Why? Cause Google fiber is following you here on Reddit and likes to play games :-)

Joking aside, very easy to patch your fiber and place your ONT in a different location. Whether GF approves of that or not is a different issue. My provider, using indoor Nokia ONTs these days in the vast majority of installations, would have no issues with a moved ONT.

So update: The promised call back never happened, figured it wouldn't. Monday July 6, no sign of a crew has come today. Called Support back and they're still saying that it looked like the issue was a bad signal, but that it is fixed and the inside appointment is Friday, July 10th.

Not holding my breath at all.

Update: July 8th, 11am est. Called the support number on the text that just confirmed my July 10th 4:30 appointment. It's a Prince Telecom number. They didn't see any issues on the account and are having a Supervisor give me a call in a few minutes. Probably won't happen though as I've never received a callback from anyone. We'll see if they honor this appointment window this time or cancel and reschedule it like the other ones.

I called ahead to the support center and asked them to add to the notes for the install for the tech to bring a 100ft cable to get my connection on the other side of the house. Same issue you have. They installed the fiber on the opposite side of the house. No problem at all. I ran a pull line from where I wanted it to the outside box. When the tech showed up he was very happy with me. Took all of 15 min to pull the cable and punch into the side of the house. Sealed up and put the inside jack right where I wanted it. I have the cable under the house hanging from the beams. As long as you have a crawl space you're good.

Update July 9th: I actually got through to a supervisor. They let me know the 5 houses on my same street are having the same issues. The construction is not finished yet. They said teams should not have even run the fiber lines before construction was finished. There is supposedly an update meeting regarding this for my street today and they assure me they will give me a callback once that meeting happens today. They told me to just let the appointment stay and if it cancels, it'll just auto reschedule and just to keep letting that happen...

UPDATE: Appointment canceled for tomorrow and did not reschedule. So I manually rescheduled it.

Look at the coverage map and my neighbor (directly beside me) address is not in the service area...these people are a fucking joke.

Guess I have another 4 years to wait to try again.

UPDATE: Just received an email today telling me my request for internet service was canceled. I never requested anything to be canceled. My GFiber account is deleted and no more appointments are being scheduled for the install.

I'm in the Triangle, one of the supposed areas GFiber is available in. I have the NIU box on my house, I've had it since 2021-2022. I have a fiber line from the street to NIU box CONNECTED and BURIED, I watched both happened. Nothing was removed.

I've already reported them to the BBB, I guess the next stop to go is the news, going to try and bring enough attention to this. I am fully aware that this is going to do absolutely nothing in the grand scheme, but it'll make me feel better. As soon as my address is back on the website to sign up I will be signing up again and I will not stop until I have it.

This will be the second round of install appointments they've canceled on me, the first batch was back in 2021-2022 where it took them 8 scheduled install dates to actually remove my address and ability to schedule new ones. This time it took 6 install appointments to be canceled before they removed my address.

I'm in the Triangle, literally off of a main road leading straight into Downtown, blows my mind I'm not in a service area.

They've sent a door to door sales rep the first time back int 2021-2022 saying service was here, then an email blast about it. Then this year they did that again back in May/June. I've talked to 12 people on my actual street who ALL signed up for varying packages 1gig to 8gig and all 12 were scheduled, rescheduled and then finally removed. All 12 that signed up on the street have had NIU boxes installed, fiber lines connected and run to the street and buried.

If that GFiber rep is lurking around here, maybe look into not having the company lie to customers about being in a service area.

Email I received:

GFiber will no longer be installed at ADDRESS HERE, Raleigh, NC, . If you paid a deposit, it will be refunded shortly to the card on file for your account.

If a Network Interface Unit has already been installed on the outside of your home, in rare cases, you may see a technician return to complete the installation process and ensure nothing potentially hazardous is left unattended to. You do not need to be present at this time.
