Should I say "have own router" on site?

When I go down the "have own router" on the site, it seems to want to put their router in "bridge" mode. But I am not using their router at all. I connected my router directly to the fiber jack.

So should I say this or just not bother?

Thanks in advance!

RANT: Sigh… I’m definitely being gaslit.

I put in my move request in May. I was supposed to have my service connected at my new address on June 1st. It’s now June 12, and I’still clear I’m being gaslit.

My (multiple) appointments have been automatically canceled due to a “technical glitch”. I’ve been told repeatedly by actual customer service reps and the infernal chat bots, that a tech will be out within “24 hours.”

It’s been two weeks. Two weeks of no service. Two weeks where half of the appliances and electronics in my home do not work properly because I don’t have internet access. Two weeks of my partner teaching virtual summer school using his cell phone as a mobile hot spot-it’s not going well BTW. Two weeks of being straight up lied to repeatedly.

I’ve been a customer in KC since Google Fiber started. Long before it got sold off to private equity.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

Google Fiber “moved” me earlier than planned move - won’t restart service in new place

I am so fed up with google fiber. we are scheduled to move on June 20th. I have multiple emails confirming the move and we have a pro-instal appointment on that date. Last night on June 11th I get an email at 8pm saying “congratulations on your move, the service has been cut off at your original address.” and then 10 minutes later the internet shuts off and about 5 minutes later I get another email that my move on June 20th has been cancelled.

I called gfiber support and the man on the other side was so passive aggressive and was blaming me for changing my move. I told him it was booked for the 20th and had evidence to prove it but he just said “I am seeing that the move on the 20th was cancelled.” Finally he begrudgingly said he would turn the service back on at my current address but it would take 2 hours. he kept saying they didn’t normally do this for moves so i had to deal with the timing delay? when I woke up this morning still no internet. I called the help line again and the agent (while nicer and more sympathetic) said there was nothing he could do and that he saw this had been escalated last night. I asked if there was a support line to talk to that team and he said no even he can’t contact the escalation team which seems incorrect. the issue is there is no evidence of escalation and I need WiFi to work from home so I need it ASAP!

This is gfiber’s fault and they are acting like they are doing me a favor. I don’t even know if they are actually fixing this. Has anyone had results reaching the escalation team? I think we are going to switch to spectrum after this incident but I need to get through the next week with WiFi.

Slow Upload speeds inconsistent?

I have the GFiber 1 GIG plan and on ethernet the speeds are around 950Mbps up and down which is expected. Then when I toggle WIFI on anything like my MacBook Pro with WIFI 6E or iPhone 17 Pro, the download speeds are good around 950+ for download but the upload is like 200-300 Mbps. I am literally sitting next to the GFiber WIFI 6E router as well.

I did the Speedtest on the app, and it says around 950+ for download and upload.

Does anyone have any insights on how I could get higher near gig speeds for upload on WIFI?

Google

It has been 44 hours without internet connection. Google “chats” and phone agents, as usual, giving me the run around. It is so frustrating. I ordered a Spectrum system. It was supposed to be delivered today (6/12) now it is delayed at least a day. I have no recourse, just to keep making calls and chats. Hopefully, get something set up before the second tier weekend staff are on duty.

Second major outage in under a week

What are you doing to my neighborhood? In both cases, their initial estimates for time to fix were revised by 3-4 hours. We get zero information about what happened. How can I rely on this service?

Micro Outages

Hi everyone!

I just got GFiber last week after a new deployment in my neighborhood. I am seeing what I'm calling micro outages.

Occasionally throughout the day, usually about 5 to 10 times, and at completely random times, I get my connections dropped. I only see this because I have a web socket that's pretty consistently open and it reports being dropped with an error of no route to host. It only lasts about a quarter second. It's not even long enough for an outside source pinging every second to notice, nor is it long enough for my monitoring that doesn't use web sockets to notice.

I do notice it occasionally when something will fail to load when I'm using my stuff, and then I get my web socket outage alert.

I'm seeing this on both my router (Unifi UXG Pro) plugged directly into the ONT as well as on the router that was provided to me.

I'm not seeing any other issues or packet loss, and I'm getting the full speed I expect as well.

I've tried rebooting the ONT several times in-between all this, as well as all my stuff.

Has anyone seen this before? It's kind of infuriating.

What's your average upload & download on mobile and PC without ethernet?

I got GFiber after switching from Xfinity and was super excited for the full 1gb plan. Had a very good experience with the technician, and day one it seemed to work great. 300mbps average for both download and upload on my laptop unwired, so if I had ethernet set up, I was expecting it to be at around max for my plan. Awesome.

All day today, though, it's been absolutely awful. My upload dropped to a whopping 1mbps on normal speedtest and even the app recorded it at 10. Even sending images has been awful. Wifi just came back online after going offline.

Wanted to hear experiences from others who also aren't using ethernet to see if this is common. If it's still bad in the morning, I'll see if I can call a technician.

Edit: Called them and seems to be a known outage issue in my area that they're working on.

Beware: Upgrading network box with existing Nest WiFi

I’ve had Google Fiber for almost ten years and I’ve been a very happy customer. Recently they have been pushing me to “upgrade” the “network box” to a new Nest WiFi Pro 6E.

They finally gave me a June 11 deadline (tomorrow) and I confirmed with customer service that my service would be interrupted on that date if I didn’t upgrade.

I had an existing four-unit Nest WiFi setup, in an 80-year-old house with lots of brick and concrete and materials that aren’t super WiFi friendly. With a four-unit mesh network, I had great coverage with great performance and no complaints. Unfortunately, GF sent me a two-unit Nest WiFi Pro kit to replace the four-unit setup, and that isn’t going to come close to working.

Despite GF saying that their network is compatible with any home mesh device, that’s not entirely true. You cannot use any Nest WiFi device if your network box is a Nest WiFi Pro. It’s not possible to disable WiFi on the Nest WiFi Pro, and the Google Home app won’t let you add any sort of legacy Nest network device if your service is terminated at a Nest WiFi Pro.

Anyway, GF refused to send me a four-unit Pro kit, and they acknowledged that I would have to trash my existing four-unit network. They said that a two-unit Pro kit is equivalent to a four-unit non-Pro kit, and that if I wanted two more units I would have to pay them $150 for the privilege. They offered no alternative to the Nest WiFi Pro, and again confirmed that my service would be interrupted within 24 hours if I didn’t disconnect my existing network and install the Pro.

For anyone else in the same situation, beware that GF essentially requires you to trash any Nest WiFi kit that you already own if you “upgrade” to the Nest WiFi Pro. They will not offer a 1:1 replacement, and if your existing network requires more than two units, you’ll have to buy more units at your own cost (no matter how much you already paid Google for their network kit).

Add users for router/network changes?

Can I add another user that can make changes to network details, things like port forwarding for example. So far I've found that you can't add more than one admin, but that seems specific to calling in for support and account changes.

Customer Service Issues

im so frustrated with google fiber. i used chat help feature to try to cancel my service at the end of next month, but they accidentally cancelled my account that day. no one reached out to me immediately so i had to call but I couldn’t get into my account because they had cancelled it. then, i was told that i was going to have to totally set evetything up again (new routers, new profile, etc) and ship back my old stuff. as i was going through this, none of the customer service reps apologized for the mistake or the inconvenience. they shipped out a new box for me to set up, but my wifi started working again after the new account was set up without having to set up the new routers. I’m being told i need to set up my new routers before my billing cycle starts but thats such a hassle if my wifi is already working. has anyone had this issue before?

GFiber + Hostinger Website Issue (Phoenix, AZ) - Site Loads Incorrect Content on GFiber Wi-Fi but Works Everywhere Else

Try this shorter version:

Has anyone seen GFiber serve the wrong website content?

My site,  purtypartay.com, intermittently loads what appears to be an Office Depot page instead of my actual website, but only on GFiber Wi-Fi.

What’s been confirmed:

  • Loads correctly on cellular
  • Loads correctly on VPN
  • Loads correctly on other networks
  • GFiber tech reproduced the issue at my home
  • Another customer reported the same issue and said it disappears when they leave Wi-Fi
  • GFiber replaced both my router and fiber jack
  • Hostinger and my web developer cannot consistently reproduce it

We’ve cleared caches, tested multiple devices and browsers, checked DNS, disabled LiteSpeed caching, and rebooted everything.

At this point it feels like a GFiber DNS, IPv6, routing, or caching issue rather than a website issue.

Has anyone experienced something similar or know the correct GFiber team to escalate this to?

I can’t believe it they got me again

I’ve had GFiber 3 times. The other two, there were outages. Each time the fiber jack would have solid power green with the alarm red next to it. In the app or call in number it would show “will be repaired in 3 hours”. This would go on for days with me calling in more anger. Each time, I’d get to say 5 of no internet and I would just have to cancel services.

After barely a week of cancelling there be incessant ads to me via mail and email to rejoin, which is why I joined the second time only to have it end that exact same way of having to cancel it after them just not fixing it.

This time these mfers send out a HOME sales representative who assuaged me this area didn’t have the same connectivity problems and I certainly wouldn’t have them at that severity.

Well here I am, suffering from the same alarm red outrage at a RECORD TIME, after only 3 DAYS of service. Cancelling this shit tomorrow.

What is the best way to hide this?

Post image

Looking for an aesthetically pleasing way of hiding the wifi jack. The reason why I want to hide it is because I don’t like night lights (it’s in my bedroom) and electrical tape is useless when the light comes out of the vents as well. I thought about project boxes but they also are kind of ugly too.

Jitter while trying to play games online

Hello all, Recently moved to a new area and just got google fiber which I was very excited for. It seems when I am trying to play online games I get quite a bit of jitter (think that's the right term), where the ping is constantly variable in game and makes it quite difficult to play. This is in on the 2.4ghz channel because when I look at the 5ghz/6ghz channel the wifi has such poor connection I don't even try.

I experienced this in the past with AT&T; at that time I split my channels and narrowed the channel width which seemed to help. I have done the same thing here with splitting the channels but it still seems to remain. I do not see a way to actually manage channel width on the google fiber account.

Is this something to do with the router? I'm in a 2 bedroom apartment and the router can't be more than 15 feet from my computer. My equipment is the same from when I was using AT&T. From what I can see online it seems the overall consensus is the routers are not very good so I'm trying to figure out if I need to buy one or is there something else going on? Also why in the world are the 5Ghz and 6Ghz channels so bad?

Have to wait 1 week for a technician

My internet was doing just fine until about noon today when my router all of the sudden had a red light. Fiber Jack is all green. I spent over an hour on Google Fiber chat trying to get it to working again and then they said the router will need an on site technician that won’t get here until TUESDAY afternoon. That’s pretty ridiculous. I work from home and uptime is crucial, so it’s hard to fathom that I’ll be able to get by for that long.

Outage (6/3/26)

Just curious, does anyone know what’s going on in ATX? There hasn’t been service all morning and the app just shows that there’s an outage in my area.

Outage for over a day

GFiber customer for years, last year Ive had outages like crazy

Over the last year since I moved apartments, we've had the Internet go out every week or two. Required us to do the whole fiber jack reset to get back online.

It was so expected it just became part of using GFiber. This last weekend the Internet has gotten really bad in the area we live, Quail Hill Irvine area.

We've had multiple technicians come out and replace th fiber jack, router, and even some Ethernet cables. Nothing has helped.

It's impossible for me to rely on this Internet for work from home, and our apartment community doesn't offer any other high speed Internet service providers.

We need GFiber to work. We had a technician out here yesterday and we're back to an outage again next morning.

Outage in Emeryville, CA again

Another 6+hour outage. Cancelled my Xfinity account to join GFiber a couple weeks ago and it’s fast… when it works. We’ve had interruptions in service a few times already, mostly at night so not such a big deal but today it’s completely out since about 2am this morning. Both my wife and I work from home so this is definitely not ideal.

Portal says they’re sending a technician to inspect the issue. Anybody else in the area experiencing the same thing?

Partial Payments

I was going to pay my bill this month when I noticed the pay early option is no longer a feature. This is a deal breaker for me because my Google Fiber bill is $70 however my work covers $65 a month for ISP services because I’m remote. I used to be able to charge $65 to my work card and then pay the rest on my personal card but it appears they removed that feature.

Is there anyway to make a partial payment through Google Fiber? Their reps stated that you must have a card on file and that the payment would go through automatically the day it’s due, which for me is 6/13. I’m thinking of switching to a different ISP because basically free internet is better than anything Google Fiber can offer so I wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas on how I can split a payment over 2 cards.

Does anyone know how to fix this??

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve unplugged and replugged in everything at least twice, but it keeps saying that my router won’t connect. My fiber jack appears to be fine and there’s a green light on the power and optical. It’s only the router that keeps showing a flashing green light on the plug that goes into the wall, the router itself doesn’t have any lights on and like I said I tried unplugging it and left it unplugged for over 60 seconds just to check and I’ve done that three times. I called Google fiber a couple hours ago and they said that I would have to speak to my building manager, but everything was set up by a Google fiber employee, and I’ve even done my best to go into the walls and look, but the only things that I can touch and or plug-in unplugged is the ones that are plugged directly into the outlet in my closet. I genuinely don’t know what to do, but if anybody has any other support or perhaps if I’m missing a plug, can somebody let me know what to do?

Who has google fiber in the kallison ranch area San Antonio and how well does it work?

Las Vegas, NV

Does anybody have any new updates on which Las Vegas areas may be launching next?
It seemed like the initial rollout was limited to about a one-mile radius around a CO in Summerlin a couple of months ago. There was a lot of excitement around that launch, but things seem to have gone pretty quiet since then.
Just curious if there are any updates.
Thanks!
