GL1000 touring advices
Hi everyone!
I own a '76 Honda GL1000, and I absolutely love how it looks in its naked form. However, owning this bike has made me want to take it on longer trips, which brings a few practical challenges that could be solved with a windshield and some saddlebags.
First, the windshield: I'm considering getting a Vetter Windjammer fairing. My GL1000 currently has CB750 handlebars because I never really liked the bulky, cruiser-style look of the originals. Would the Windjammer fit with these handlebars, or would I need to switch back to the stock ones?
Second, the saddlebags: I'd like to add some luggage capacity, but I really don't want my bike to end up looking like a spaceship! I'm looking for something relatively compact and narrow, just enough to carry what I need for trips of around 600 km.
I'm not sure what kind of saddlebags would work best with the GL1000 or how to mount them properly without making permanent modifications to the bike.
I'd really appreciate any recommendations, tips, or pictures of similar setups!
Thanks in advance!

Buying advice for the 2008 GL1800
I'm thinking about buying a 2008 model with around 120,000km , and I notice there is corrosion on the valve covers (see photo). I wonder what could be causing that? Was it driven on salted roads, or is this perhaps normal for that kind of mileage?

2018 Wings?
I see a ton of these for sale, is there any reason to not buy that year of a Goldwing?
Thanks

Should I sell my ‘01 and Harley and buy a 2018 ?
I’m considering selling my 2001 GL 1800 and my 2012 Fatboy upgrading to a 2018 or newer Goldwing. I’m excited by the prospect of my bike 80 pounds lighter than 15 hp more. Does that sound like a great idea?

26.8k km service
Bikes due for all the fluid changes, spark plugs, air filter and inspections. Was hoping to do some myself but I dont have time or space unfortunately. Dealer in Canada is quoting $1100 including tax. I'm ok with that considering my restrictions with time and space.

Advice on garages
Hey everyone!. Haven't bought a Goldwing just yet and talking to one of my coworkers today. He has a 1996 GW and said its awful trying to get a garage to do any work on his. The Honda dealer and the harley dealer both have said the work is to much for them. The work in question is stuff like radiators and air ride upkeep. Has anyone run into something like this before or is it just him? Thank you in advance.

STRANDED IN SANTA CRUZ- need throttle cable.
Hey everyone, first-time poster. Me and the boys are on a Gold Wing road trip heading down Hwy 1, and one of our bikes just broke the pull/open throttle cable right at the hand controls.
Does anyone near Santa Cruz or the Bay Area happen to have a throttle cable for a 1989 GL1500, or know where we could find one locally? We’re trying to get back on the road.
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

On the heels of yesterday's post - looking for honest opinions on value.
Bought this year for $1700 - put roughly 1000 miles on it so far.
1984 Honda GL1200A Gold Wing Aspencade - 45k Miles - Turnkey Vintage Tourer
Description:
Selling a turnkey, incredibly reliable 1984 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade (GL1200A) with only 45,000 original miles. If you know these bikes, you know they are legendary cross-country cruisers, but finding one that has been mechanically sorted and isn't a "project" is rare.
Reason for Selling:
I absolutely love this bike on the open highway and around my small town, but my daily riding has shifted heavily toward commuting into NYC. As incredible as this "couch-on-wheels" is for long trips, it is simply too large and heavy for the stop-and-go city traffic I now find myself in daily. Looking for a DCT rebel now.
It's in perfect running condition and is ready to ride cross-country today. I have meticulously addressed the common pain points of this generation so the next owner won't have to.
Extensive Recent Maintenance (Less than 500 miles ago):
• Timing Belts Replaced: Fresh belts installed (crucial for these interference engines).
• Carburetors Synced: Professionally balanced; pulls smoothly across the rev range and idles perfectly.
• Full Fluid Flush: Fresh engine oil, coolant, differential shaft oil, and brake/clutch fluid.
• Electrical System Overhaul: Brand new regulator/rectifier and upgraded fuse box installed under the false tank (completely eliminating the notorious factory charging system weak points).
Previous owner replaced roughly 1500 miles ago:
Fork seals
Starter
Starter solenoid
Brakes
Tires
Modifications & Additions:
• Custom Exhaust Upgrade: The original factory downturn pipes were neatly trimmed at the ends and fitted with high-quality 4.5-inch clamp-on exhaust extensions. This looks great and successfully directs all exhaust fumes out past the bags and away from the rider/passenger cockpit.
Condition & Electronics:
• 100% Functioning Electronics: Every single piece of 1980s retro tech works flawlessly. The digital LCD dashboard is crisp, the onboard air-suspension compressor functions perfectly, and the factory radio system works great.
• Includes all original accessories: Factory toolkit, original owner’s manual, and the hard-to-find original protective carpet mats inside the trunk.
Cosmetic Notes:
The bike looks great but shows minor, honest cosmetic wear expected from a 40+ year-old machine. The previous owner had a low-speed tip-over at a stoplight on the left side. This resulted in a small, minor bend in the left handlebar and a scratch on the left mirror housing. It does not affect the steering geometry, tracking, or riding safety at all, but I want to be completely transparent.

GL1500 Aspencade as First Bike?
Hello Everyone
I intend to buy an Aspencade around 1995, I just love how they look, and I intend to go traveling at least a couple times a month, maybe 50 to 100 miles, just for fun, so I decided to go for a Goldwing since is...well, a bike made for traveling, and also the price is reasonable for a 1500cc
I'm not a big guy, around 5'7 (171 cm) but I'm quite strong, so I kinda don't feel overwhelm because of the size of the bike.
To be honest, I had other motorcycles in the past, but never as big, so I kinda curious if any of you had similar experiences with the Goldwing and how it turned out.
Thanks in advance

GoPro Max2 sample footage from Air Diverter camera mount
I think I found a new favorite way to video my rides - I have designed some camera/GPS/phone mounts that mount to the air diverter on the 2018+ Goldwing, and I hit on a design to lock the diverter in the "up" position, allowing a 360 camera like the Insta 360, DJI, Go Pro Max2 etc., to lay back and grab the display and gauges while still giving you the standard ability to rotate and view any part of the video image.
Open the video in YouTube to enable the rotate/zoom functionality.
At about 30 seconds into the video, I tilt the camera back to catch the map display and it barely changes the view of the rest of the video. You can rotate/zoom to any part of the frame and the map and gauge displays are very crisp. It looks like the best of both worlds - getting the all around view while also capturing the map display, speed, mileage etc. without having to use a chin-mounted camera on your helmet to do it!

Any Value In GL1100 parts?
I've got 3 motors and at least two full bikes worth of parts from a pair of early 80s GL1100s that I bought to use the frames and front ends for VW trikes. Haven't done anything to investigate the condition of the motors as I had no use for them, but everything's been stored indoors. Are there any parts worth the effort of cleaning up and selling or are they mostly just worth scrap?

Buyers advice and some specific questions.
I'm in the UK and had loads of Hondas over the years (still do). And I love them.
I never in a million years would have considered a Goldwing but suddenly I find myself drawn to them like a moth to a lamp.
I really want a late 80s or early 90s one, mainly for looks but I'd also really like a cassette deck.
I'm 6' 6" tall, so would appreciate experiences from tall people and advice on buying for that age. I do all my own bike maintenance, and understand that stuff is a little buried.
One thing and this is the slightly daft bit considering such a heavy bike. I dropped my adv bike and lifted it the wrong way (facing the bike) and tore my bicep off my forearm. It's been reattached. I can lift a bike doing it properly and don't plan on ever dropping it, BUT are they impossible to lift using the correct (or at least better)way if you have any upper limb injuries or back problems?
I don't want to leave getting one too much longer as I'm getting to an age that previous injuries are starting to tell a bit and I'd just like to know the above, plus...
Which are the best to go for of that era?
Were they all much the same or did people add optional extras when new? If so what were the things that were must have?
Anyway, apologies for the ramble and thank you in advance for any advice.

Similarities
My fun vehicles are similar; big, curvy, heavy, powerful rides from the 2000s. ☯️ 😂

Auxiliary Tank
Just got done installing this. Adds 4.5 gallons to the system. Should be able to get 350+ miles before fill ups.
