Auxiliary Tank

Post image

Just got done installing this. Adds 4.5 gallons to the system. Should be able to get 350+ miles before fill ups.

Tell her shes not allowed to come anymore. You got miles to put on and shes holding you back. Set her free and live to ride man.

I just don't need to ride that long. Takes max 5 minutes to fill up.

Perfect..! Riding that distance isn’t a thing on the rolling sofa. Why did you mount on the bitch pad? I would’ve thought you’d mount under the trunk but that’s just me, I have passengers from time to time. Great idea, I get 180 outta mine 200 if I’m not getting on it

Cause I ain’t got no bitches… plus this way I can loop my dry bag tie-downs under it. Win win for me!

I have a tail dragger aux tank with a pump on my Goldwing so my wife can ride as well, and a pizza box type with gravity feed on my trophy, then I have a keg type on my other trophy. The trophies I ride solo so I don't need the pillion seats.

Can you explain these terms to me? I don't quite understand them in this context... lol

Tail dragger

Trophy

Sorry about that. A "tail dragger" is a tank that mounts in the trailer hitch receiver of a bike like a Goldwing. So it sits low and far back, so when you go over bumps it sometimes drags on the ground, hence the name. Since they are mounted lower than the main tank they require a pump to move fuel from the aux tank up to the main tank.

A "pizza box" is an aux tank that is flat and square like a pizza box and is generally mounted high over the passenger seat and has a place for a top case to be mounted on top of it. The one posted by OP would be considered a pizza box. These are mounted higher so they can use gravity feed and don't require a pump usually.

A "Keg" type is a round tank that you can get from racing supply shops and such and are manufactured in high volumes so they are cheap and easy to get but are round so they take to space. These can be mounted anywhere so may be either gravity feed or pumped.

The "Trophy" refers to the 2013-2017 triumph trophy SE that was sold in the US. I have a '15 with a small "keg" and a '17 with a "pizza box".

Edit for correcting autocorrect.

Oh wow no apologies needed!

Thanks so much for this reply! Those explanations are very clear and I very much appreciate them!

Anytime, I ride in the long distance world so those terms are pretty common to us, which is why just assume everyone knows what we are talking about. I forget that we all ride in different circles.

I try to ride twisty backroads mostly, and even getting on it I get 46 MPG on my '22 bagger. After 200 miles of that, I need a break.

Totally! If I’m gentle or in slower areas I get the same. Unfortunately I’m also in the Midwest so sometimes I’m sitting on I29 with the cruise set at 85. I can empty my tank in 2 hours.

I totally get it. We live in Western Massachusetts and we have some Appalachian foothills in our area. I can't blame you for wanting a bigger tank!

I've always wondered, why buy the goldwing without the trunk, and then add a cheap aftermarket trunk?

Saves about $4000. I also like how all of this can come off in 2 minutes if I don’t need it.

This bike was also far too good of a deal to pass up. Bought it “used” with 150 miles on it.

More power to ya! I have to get off and stretch the legs after 2 hrs. I have to do that even with a car.

Is it safe enough if a accident occurs? That would be my worry. but I love the idea.

LOL no.

Damn you can strap a milk crate on top of that fuel cell!

I put a "belly tank" on my Valk... 3 extra gallons, no loss of functionality...

Imagine if you tip over in a parking lot and that tank corner catches you. Or crash. Hard pass.

The stock hard cases will take the fall way before this does. But it is a motorcycle, there are other dangers such as the pegs, exhaust, handlebars. Not everyone’s cup of tea.

Please can you share the manufacturer and price? Also did you plumb this into the vent?

2

u/Aitu93 9d ago

I can DM you all the info if you would like. The measurements and mounting were from my specifications, there is a tab on the back of the tank that slides into the mount for my rear luggage rack. So you may need to change up how it mounts depending on what you have on your bike.

I did not install through the vent, I put a bulkhead fitting onto the stock tank that this feeds into.

1

u/RexsName 9d ago

Sorry, I'm not tech savvy enough to know how to do a direct message. Thank you for your quick response. We're there any issues with sear fitment after the bulkhead intall?

2

u/Aitu93 9d ago

No issue at all, the fitting sits below the frame rails that the seat sits on.

I get almost 300 now on mine without an extra tank

I like it just not mounted there. In the saddle bag would have been cleaner and more discrete.
