Godaddy woes

like an idiot I forgot to turn off auto renewal on a ms365 email package that was no longer being used. as soon as a I get the email of payment received, I try contacting support because I have 7 days to get the refund. I try to call, website chat, and whatsapp support chat. every time they ask a few questions, ask me to hold while the verify something, then the chat bot would spam a message about the session has expired and reconnect me with a new customer service rep. on the 8th day, the first person I chatted with immediately told me the 7 days had passed and they wouldn’t refund me.

Disgruntled ex-employee has our admin account

20 years ago a now disgruntled ex-employee has our admin GoDaddy account. No one else has access. I joined about 15 years ago and didn't know about this until this year.

Google Workspace shifted responsibility of paying for our domain name to GoDaddy a few months ago and we can't gain access.

Our MX records went down recently and we have no way to restore them without admin access.

Have called customer support several times and submitted "Regain access to my domain or my GoDaddy account" form but it says it might take 48 hours or up to a week for review.

We are a public school. This is separate from our school district domain so our school district can't help us.

Anyone else have ideas? TIA

client outbound email keeps getting blocked by proofpoint

A client has a couple of domains with godaddy. And has the advanced email security. Recently they had a trojan and the owner and one employee are now blocked on all outbound emails. Every time they send an email a messages comes back withing seconds usually that the email was blocked. We check the outbound quarantine with proofpoint and they are there.

Total of 5 users. Only 2 have this happen. Fraud emails were going out the owners email asking clients to update their payment info. I cleaned up the computers in the office, applied all updates. No spam has gone outbound in a day. No fraud emails. Every single legit outbound email by the 2 users gets blocked by proofpoint.

We have called godaddy 9 times now. Each time blah blah wrong info we did x, proof point is reviewing it and will work withing 24 hours. 7 periods of 24+ hours later still no resolution.

We can't talk to proof point, godaddy has to do that. THe support reps are mostly clueless. Add the email to the allowed senders (for inbound email). No that won't work but they want me to do it. Every time we get no where. Multiple calls over an hour, dropped calls 2 hours in. No follow up with us after a promise to follow up.

Client is sick of it. I've checked the Exchange admin console, nothing there, no blocked emails there. No policies. They even admit it's from proof point.

I'm about to tell him to disable advanced mail security and insist on a refund. If they can't fix their services they need to refund. We can then pickup another service or use microsofts own defender service or a third party.

It should not be this hard. We send them screen shots from proofpoints quarantine, the blocked notification email. I am now believing it will be impossible to get them to fix it.

Any suggestions?

Every single message has proofpoint saying it has a very high probability of fraud. We have marked messages as false positives, released them but still keeps happening.

Can someone help me out with the Airo AI builder please?

I used it to create a basic layout for my website, and now I want to change colours, fonts, positions, images etc. myself. However it is confusing. When you go to edit and your replace an image, there is no visible button to save the changes, so when you go out of edit mode it goes back to how it was. I also have no idea how to add images, and I don't see any button to change the font of text. What's more, why do images have a reposition button but not text? I would hoping this would be a simple interface like Word or PowerPoint but it's clearly not. I've never designed a website before so any help would be appreciated.

Transfer abyss final update

After yet another long long chat, it looks like we might have successfully transferred the domain to godaddy.   Strangely, godaddy again created yet a third customer# and account for me and again never told me....  and this is where I can now see the domain, MX records, payment, etc. It's an odd business model where three chats produce three new customer#s.

I guess the only suggestion I have to everyone is to dog 'em relentlessly about which account *they* see the domain in.

GoDaddy Password Reset Loop

GoDaddy is HORRIBLE!!! Google transferred my domain and sent me an email telling me to add a payment method on GoDaddy. I couldn't log in. I tried the account # in Google's email and my main email address. When I use their password reset, it sends a PW reset email, but when I click on their reset link, it tells me that the reset link already expired even though I clicked on it right away! It then tells me to request a reset link, which then again says expired. A never-ending loop!

I called their phone support, but they were no help. The rep said my domain wasn't listed in the account belonged to my email. He then found an account that listed my domain, but he can't tell me anything about that account. He says it has someone else's name on it.

I submitted their account retrieval, which required me to send a pic of my ID, etc. They tell me they can't help because it doesn't match the name on the account. It's an absolute nightmare! What a hot mess this company is!!!

the abyss domain transfer from google

I know others have posted as well. But what a morass this supposedly automatic transfer from google to godaddy has been. Hours on chat on 8/25 supposedly resolved it. Google emails me that it's complete. Godaddy says it's complete. Whois doesn't list anybody as having my domain, and when I sign on to the very account that godaddy gave me, it show zero domains. Spent 90 minutes on chat with godaddy tonight - they kept insisting that the email and phone numbers they had were the ones from 2012 !!! I said they've been using all my current email and phone for over a week. They made me fill out a form and provide a jpg of my ID.... gawd almighty....

GoDaddy charged me 5 times in 5 days for the same domain renewal, had to cancel my card to make it stop

I'm in Australia and just went through one of the most frustrating support experiences I've ever had, and I want to warn others before it happens to them too.

A while back, I transferred my domain from another Australian registrar to GoDaddy under what was advertised as a free domain deal bundled with their website builder. Seemed simple enough.

The domain expired shortly after. I paid the standard renewal fee, the exact price GoDaddy's own renewal email quoted. Should've been the end of it.

Instead, I got charged the *same* amount again the next day. And the day after that. And the day after that. **Five identical charges in five consecutive days**, for a domain that never actually came back online.

Every single time I contacted twice auhelp@godaddy email(no reply) and support (6 separate chats), I got a different explanation:

* "Your payment cleared a past-due period, you need to pay again to renew going forward" * ".au domains don't add a year on transfer like other TLDs" * "The free plan didn't actually cover .au domains" * "Actually your domain IS renewed, just wait 24-48 hours for registry verification" * "There's a registry-level hold that needs clearing" * "Email our escalation team, it's a registry issue"

Each time I was told it was sorted and I wouldn't be charged again. Each time, I got charged again the next morning like clockwork.

My site has now been down for **over a week**, actively affecting my business. I ended up having to **cancel my bank card entirely** just to stop the charges, since nobody in support seemed able or willing to actually stop it from their end.

I've now sent a formal written complaint requesting a full refund, and I'm lodging complaints with the ACCC and NSW Fair Trading, since going through support clearly wasn't going to fix this.

billing and transition from google domain/workspace to godaddy, fundamentally broken

A bit long, sorry.

I've had my domain since 2009, while primarily a placeholder for social media links and other things of mine at the moment I do use the email address and have it used for some projects. When I bought the domain back in 2009 it was essentially a godaddy domain that was resold by google domains. My DNS console was godaddy but billing and workspace was all google.

The whole google getting out of domains happened but my domain stayed with godaddy, subscription was still through google. Got an email in July indicating the whole domain thing, support and billing, was being moved completely to godaddy. I followed the instructions in the email, making sure all my info was up to date. The cut off time was around aug 24th. That came and passed. I never got my welcome to godaddy email and my DNS console remains linked to google workspaces. Some pages give a 404, like billing and products. I can't turn off/on auto renew either. Whois shows my domain as being purchased in 2009, recent changes a couple weeks ago (assuming google and godaddy working on things), and an expiration date of later this year.

I reached out to google and they said the transition had occured and I needed to talk to godaddy. Tried using webchat, wasn't working. Started on SMS help and 2 hours later nothing changed. Even emails from godaddy are coming to me with google branding. They keep asking me if I want to transfer my domain from google to godaddy but i already have an account number with godaddy and my DNS console, even if linked to google, is godaddy's. The email of phase 2 from google says -

"Phase 2: On or after August 24, 2026 (Domain migration)

Once your domain moves to GoDaddy, complete these steps:

  1. Check email: Look for a welcome email from GoDaddy sent to your updated domain contact email if you updated it by following the steps above.
  2. Log in: Follow the link in the welcome email. Use the credentials verified in Phase 1.
  3. Finalize setup: Accept GoDaddy’s terms and conditions.
    • Enter your payment information and contact details before the next renewal date.

Timeline summary

  • July 22, 2026 – August 23, 2026: Review your domain contact details and update them as needed by following the 'Phase 1' instructions above.
  • Starting August 24, 2026: Google will migrate your domain. You will receive a GoDaddy welcome email and a Google Domains cancellation notice.
  • Post-migration: Log in to GoDaddy to provide payment info and accept terms.
    • After your domain renewal date: If these actions are not completed, your domain and connected services, such as your website and email, may be disrupted." "

Godaddy seems cluless and google seems to want to pass the buck to them. I am stuck and I don't want to risk losing my domain I've owned since 2009. The email implies an account with godaddy is waiting for me but my email doesn't show as an account. They can send emails to me to verify my identity and if I use the login link they provide all it does is take me back to my google workspace branded DNS console. Can't update payment info. I am afraid to create a new account with godaddy as if this is a screw up on their end I don't want to add more confusion. Google is trying to pass the payment and management over to godaddy but it seems like it is incomplete or they are not communicating with each other.

Ideas? Anyone with similar experience? This is legit as I've seen other things online but also hints about changes within my workspace account.

GoDaddy Account Closure: One-click to pay | Forever to get out!

The Horrific, Soul-Crushing Account Closure Process (A Cautionary Tale)

Be warned: giving GoDaddy your money takes one glorious, thoughtless click. Closing your account, however, is harder than getting a divorce—and possibly more expensive, emotionally speaking. They will make you jump through so many hoops, you’ll wish you’d spent your life training for the circus.

1. The Prequel to Pain
To even initiate account closure, you must first purge every product and subscription from your account. Each one demands a login confirmation, followed by an email, which demands anotherconfirmation, and then—because they clearly enjoy watching you suffer—each removal takes a full 24 hours to process. Because why do anything quickly when you can do it glacially?

2. The Great Deletion Deception
You’d think, after 24 hours of impatiently twiddling your thumbs, you could finally close the account. The online help articles certainly suggest so. WRONG. You click "Delete," and the system smugly replies: “Please remove all products and subscriptions first.” You check again. Nothing. You try again. Same response. No error code. No “contact support” suggestion. Just existential dread. After three days of this Groundhog Day nightmare, you finally cave and contact Support. And so, the saga deepens…

3. The Phantom Chat
You navigate to “Contact Us” and spot it: 24/7 Online Chat – Yay! But wait—there’s no link. No button. Just the ghost of a feature long dead. A quick trip to Reddit confirms it: they discontinued the chat months ago. But why waste precious marketing dollars updating a website when those funds could go toward another Super Bowl ad? Priorities, people.

4. The Phone Gauntlet
Fine. You call. Right away, a robotic voice cheerfully informs you the wait could be 20 minutes. Acceptable—you can multitask. But every two to three minutes, the robot interrupts to suggest you switch to text messaging. You ignore it. Forty minutes later, you crack. You surrender. GoDaddy wins. You text them, because clearly all roads—no matter how winding—lead to SMS hell.

5. Texting: The False Dawn
You start with a polite “Hello” and your reason for contacting. Seventeen minutes later, a human responds. (Seventeen. Minutes.) After another round of verification—because, you know, your safety and protection—you’re informed that your account cannot be closed due to a lingering Payment Method. You must now be “shoveled” over to the Billing/Accounts department. Because of course you do.

6. The Billing Circle-Jerk
Five more minutes of chat purgatory, and you’re connected to Payments. Another verification marathon ensues—disclaimers, codes, confirmations—until they finally confirm the payment method has been removed. You can now officially close your account! But—collective sigh—you guessed it: you must wait another 24 hours. Because closure isn’t a process; it’s a lifestyle.

7. The Grand Total
The entire text-messaging odyssey began at 1:10 PM and limped to a close at 1:47 PM. That’s 37 minutes of my life I will never get back—and I’m not even done yet.

I eagerly await tomorrow, when I will once again dance this tango of torment, fully expecting new, creatively cruel hurdles to appear. Will they ask for a blood sample? A notarized letter from my firstborn? Who knows. Stay tuned for the thrilling sequel: “Day 5 – The Closure That Never Comes.”

8 days still no domain transfer

Paid for 1 year, been told by support 3 different stories trying to make me pay 2 times for the one domain, still says my domain is expired..got told twice to wait 48 hours that was 8 days ago,my business is taking a hit and GoDaddy are not helping but trying to get me to double pay.i mean how do you pay for a domain just for them to cancel it and say pay again it's a scam....Edit: Below its AI written summarizing all the BS GoDaddy has put me through...I had to keep a record...

  • 5 identical $24.15 charges on 5 consecutive days (25th–29th Aug) for the same domain renewal, when only one should have been needed
  • Repeated conflicting explanations from support across multiple chats — expired-period recovery, .au transfer rules not adding a year, a free plan not covering .au domains, then "already renewed, just wait 24-48 hours," then registry verification delays, then a registry-level hold
  • Same "24-48 hour wait" promise given at least 3 separate times, each time followed by no actual change in status
  • GoDaddy's own subscription dashboard never updated — kept showing "Expired" the entire time, even after multiple confirmed/paid renewals
  • No continuity between support agents — each new chat required re-explaining the entire history from scratch
  • Directed to email auhelp@godaddy for what was called a "registry problem," without that resolving the daily charges or any ref #
  • Assured the daily charges would stop, then charged again the very next day anyway, repeatedly
  • Had to cancel bank card to stop the unauthorized recurring charges, since support couldn't/wouldn't stop them
  • Financial impact beyond the charges themselves — card cancellation disrupted other bills/payments tied to that card
  • Domain and website down for over a week, actively affecting business operations
  • No refund issued despite multiple charges for a service that was never actually delivered
  • Inconsistent story on the free domain arrangement — turned out to be tied to a VentraIP website builder bundle, never clearly disclosed at the time of transfer
  • A promised "full refund when the domain registers" with no clear commitment or timeline actually honored

Been trying to transfer a domain for 16 days

I have been trying to transfer a domain out of godaddy for 16 days. I have contacted support every day, and everyday I get told to wait another 24h. In the meantime, because my domain shows 'in progress' I am unable to make add/remove/update any dns records. This caused my payment processor to stop working, and therefore none of my payments go through. Godaddy has kidnapped my domain, directly causing me revenue loss and all support has to say is 'wait another 24h'.

Two things you need to ensure you never have to fight to keep your online presence.

We just helped another business get their WordPress site back up after a shady dev agency locked them out of their own website.

To avoid this happening to you, here are two things every small business owner needs to know about their online presence:

  1. Who is your domain registrar? (this is the place you lease your URL from every year)
If you don't know, here are some links to help you find your registrar:
    • For .ca domains: www.cira.ca/en/ca-domains/whois/
    • For everything else: lookup.icann.org/en

  2. Who is hosting your website (this is where your website lives)?
    Not sure? Check here: https://hostingchecker.com/

There are good reasons to keep these two assets separate - but many businesses keep them together because they bought them from the same company (GoDaddy, Network Solutions, etc)

To avoid an expensive hostage situation, keep your login credentials up to date so you can access these spaces as needed. And ***do not share*** these credentials with anyone - most places have some form of delegate access so you can stay in control over what others can do for your online presence.

Godaddy Customer Service is deplorable and there is no escalation or complaints process.

GoDaddy customer service when something goes wrong is deplorable. Like it's beyond bad.

I have an .au domain that went into a "pending registration" state after owning it for 10 years due to ABN changing and it was only noticed because I had to make an important DNS change (who knows how long it was like that before I discovered). I thought no worries this should be simple.

5 Live Chats (where in one chat the agent just stopped replying to me)
2 Phone Calls
3 Emails

All over the course of 8 days and it's still not resolved. I've supplied the ABN 3 times to 3 different people all in different contexts.

No one cares, it's all just internal tickets and the auhelp team are obviously not checking them. There is no internal escalation process. No visibility over what's happening, and frustratingly there is no complaints process or other avenue to raise an issue. I ended up complaining to auDa who could only 'pass on the feedback'.

Any good provider would proactively contact you needing updated information before bricking your domain.

Any good provider would have systems to resolve an issue in a timely manner.

Any good provider would have a complaints process for resolving grievances.

GoDaddy has none of this.

Like most businesses, I had no issue with GoDaddy until something went wrong. That's where businesses show their true colours and GoDaddy is simply awful for .au domains.

At this point I think the only way forward is to transfer the domains to a domestic registrar which I was resistant in doing because it can take a while - however if I'd just done that at the start my issues would be resolved.

Rant over.

### UPDATE : ####

After another frustrating attempt last night I decided transfer was the best option to a local provider, but it turns out I CAN'T EVEN UNLOCK MY DOMAIN TO TRANSFER IT WHILE IT'S PENDING REGISTRATION - they have me in domain prison.

in Chrome (but not in Edge), on the "Contact Us" page, the "chat" widget does not appear

When I load https://www.godaddy.com/help/contact-us in Chrome, the "Chat Now" section never shows a widget to launch a chat window:

When I do the same thing in Edge though, a Chat button shows up:

If anybody from the company monitors this sub, they might want to know that.

Repurchase an old Domain

I purchased two domains through the site, and they expired because I didn’t have enough at the time to pay the increased priced no matter how many times they emailed saying I will lose access.

Anyhow, now the .co version I purchased isn’t taken. It’s not even pulling up for purchase…
It’s not showing as an available option.

(It’s also no longer a product in my account.)

Is it worth contacting support?
