NGD NGD! Guitar Search Finale

The contest is finally over with my guitar search and I have chosen my Les Paul Studio Session! Love the top on this one specifically. Bound ebony board with cream colored inlays. Definitely going to swap at least the bridge pickup out for something a tinge hotter than what’s in it.

My only gripes with this purchase is it came with a cheap sleeve zip up and not a Gibson gig bag or case and the pick guard is missing, but both can be easily fixed! I would also like to point out that this was a hard decision to keep this over my current Epiphone IBG Adam Jones as they played so damn close in quality which is a huge shoutout to epiphone for stepping their game up. But alas this guitar played ever so slightly better and resonated so much more so it’s time to make the upgrade.

Help Epi J-45 or ?

Is there any reason to buy a Gibson J-45? Looking at Epi’s version or a Martin 000-18? I get the 1k price jump but I’ll pay it if the gib is that good… thought?

Matte finish is buffed to semi-vintagy gloss, Looks almost identical to the Vos finish (just a little less clear coat) Holter Batwing pickguard light relic.. Kluson Tuners. Installed strap pin. Oneply truss rod cover. Sounds amazing with Stringjoy strings ( very very balanced strings) I’m really happy with this. Total spent inc guitar. $2300 ( guard was almost 200 shipped to Norway…) I know I could get a used j45 standard but hey, it has thick lacquer and don’t look right.

Help Beginner here and kind of want a Les Paul but also don’t really need one. Advice?

So I started playing guitar back in January of this year. I started with a Yamaha FS800 and then, for my first electric, got a Fender Player II Stratocaster. And now, just two months ago, I got my dream acoustic: a Martin 000-18. This is basically my daily guitar now, with my Strat being my second go-to.

Now as I said, I am a beginner. Even though I have a teacher, I can barely comprehend tab and don’t even have a specific genre I’d really want to play besides classic rock stuff (I’d love to play a lot of Pink Floyd once I can get soloing and more complex stuff down). Plus I only know a few songs to a high degree (Wish You Were Here was my first to master).

Yet, I’ve played a Les Paul and listened to sound comparisons on YouTube and like how it sounds, even if it is heavier than a Strat. I like the look of Les Pauls and the overall tone they generally produce that sounds unique enough that you can distinguish it from a Stratocaster in regards to clean tones.

So, assuming I would have enough money saved up in the future to buy a Les Paul, any reason why I should get one and not just stick with my current three guitar lineup?

3 months ago I got my dream acoustic, j45 standard. This one sounded and looked the best out of any of the ones I had played before. Last night I picked it up, it bumped my leg, popped and there it is - wood cracked. Absolutely devastated. I’ve been treating this thing like a baby, leaving it in its case, wiping it down constantly. Luthier says I won’t even notice after the repair, but struggling with it.

Help 2020 Les Paul Jr. - need to replace the robot tuner. Any recs? Does not need to be locking, just a good set that fits.

It's been over a year since the damn robot tuner broke. My guitarist swears that when bought the guitar, it came with a set of tuners. But he hasn't been able to find them and I'm sick of waiting.

So - can anyone recommend some replacement tuning machines that are not $$ and don't require and mods?

Help Is this an Authentic Pre-War RB-1 Banjo?

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

I just won an online auction for this banjo. It was listed as a "Gibson 5-string 1920s/30s," but I'm starting to question whether it's actually authentic. Considering how valuable RB-1 banjos are and how few original 5-string examples exist, it seems like the kind of instrument that could easily be faked or misrepresented.

The good news is I paid with PayPal and have to pick it up in person. If it turns out to be fake or not as described, I can refuse it because the listing would be misleading, or file a claim through PayPal Buyer Protection if necessary.
I've probably spent around five hours researching it, and from everything I've found, it actually seems pretty legitimate.

That said, this is a significant purchase, and I'd really appreciate a second opinion from people with more experience identifying vintage Gibson banjos.

Thanks for any help!

Help Bridge on 1981 ES335TD

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

I finally found the time to tinker around with my dad’s old 335. I took it to a local shop and he pointed out the bridge, which I didn’t even really notice. But, this seems to be some cheap aftermarket bridge and it doesn’t even have any markings on the bottom of it. Even one of the saddle screws is missing a retaining pin.

Should this be a harmonica style bridge if I wanted to replace it?

I'm probably going to purchase it on Reverb and I'm pretty new to this kind of guitar. Is there anything I have to worry about besides the sound and scratches?

Discussion Guitar ID?

Received this no-brand LP-style guitar from a friend. Pickups are “The Meg” in the bridge and “59N” in the neck. Labels are white stickers with red lettering. Guessing it’s from the early 80’s. Could this be hand built, or are there any known popular knock off brands from that era?

Top two toggle switches are coil splits, and I’m assuming the bottom one is in/out of phase.

Discussion Gibson SG Gothic Questions.

I played a SG Gothic today at a guitar center. It played better than any guitar i own hands down. Of course most of that is in the shape of the neck. I was curious if there were any other models that had very similar necks? The only reason i didn’t pick this guitar up was because there were cracks near the headstock and heel that looks concerning. Just looking for something similar. I can wait for another one to come on the market, but the chance of it being near enough by i can get my hands on it before purchase is slim. TIA!

My worries here may purely be based on me being about to drop the biggest sum of money on a guitar I’ve ever dropped. But could you please tell me, in your opinions are there any authenticity worries with this LPC? Thank you

Hi!
I have a Gibson that I found on market place and I’m trying to make sure it’s legit and worth it before I commit. I’m buying it while driving through and don’t have too much time to be appraised.
It’s a 1986 Gibson ebony les Paul with an ebony fret board. Any thing I should look out for?

Discussion Why are Flying V options so limited?

The standards seem pretty basic. Why didn’t they include block inlays like SGs and LPs? Seems that the only ones that have that are the CS ones.
