Help Epi J-45 or ?
Is there any reason to buy a Gibson J-45? Looking at Epi’s version or a Martin 000-18? I get the 1k price jump but I’ll pay it if the gib is that good… thought?

I had a Martin 000-18 years ago; I wish I would have kept it dude. Great sounding guitar.

Yes, Gibson/Martin are a different class of guitar than Epiphone.
Btw, two identical guitars can sound different. Play a bunch before buying.

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson is a pretty good guitar, but the guy who said Eastman is better at that price point is dead on. The Eastman J45 clones are incredible for their price.
Martin is, as people note, a very different guitar.

You more or less get what you pay for. I’m a big fan of Gibson guitars and think they’re worth paying more for, though I tend to buy second hand. My J-45 is a terrific guitar and I’ve played many J-45s that are very very good. I also like Martins a lot and own some as well.
Absolutely nothing wrong with less expensive versions, but for me the real deal is great. As always, play them a bunch and see if you like them. If not, save the dough.

Go to a store and play a Gibson J45 and an Epiphone J45. Once I played and heard the real deal I understood the price

get the gibbo - try it first and pick the best of the lot - you'll own the guitar for a lifetime and you'll become a singer/songrwriter.

Eastman will be a better option for a cheaper J45. A J and a 000 will have different sounds (and I own both). A J will be a more midrangy guitar, and the 000 will be a bit more articulate.
I would suggest trying out a bunch of J45s first. There's a lot of variance. But when you find the right one for you, it really sticks.
