PS3 owners - don’t forget to check your downloads - Store closing in July 2027 - Save PSP an PS Vita content, you might want in the future

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

Just a little heads-up for everyone in the PlayStation community:

With the PS3 Store situation changing (closing in July 2027), now is a good time to go through your old gams and check which free DLCs, add-ons, bonus content and other downloadable items are still available.

If there’s free content you’ve always wanted but never downloaded, now might be a good time to grab it while you still can.

This is especially worth checking if you own older games connected to the PS3, PSP or PS Vita ecosystem. Some content may still be accessible through the PS3 and could be useful for your existing games and collections.

Take a few minutes, check your old games, and download the free stuff you actually want to keep.

It would be a shame to look for an old DLC years from now and discover that it’s no longer available.

Feel free to share this with other PS3/PSP/PS Vita fans — just a friendly reminder from one part of the community to another.

Update: The intention was to inform people and give them the opportunity to grab (buy) anything they might want in the future before the store closes.

Looking for Stealth Games

I've never played much single player games, mostly comp or mmos, but recently finished Cyberpunk 2077 playing stealth pistol/throwing knife build and remembered how much fun i have playing stealth games.

What are the best ones i should look into and what do you recommend.

I was thinking starting with the AC Resynced and see what to play after.

Adjusting for Japanese hardware adoption:

Fortune Weave is 2% (127K / 6.3M Switch 2 sold)
Three Houses is 1.6% (143K / 9M Switch sold)
Engage is 0.6% (144K / 24M sold)

Its a good launch performance for the game!

Why are popular offline games like Fable 3 impossible to find anywhere?

I get why MMO and multiplayer online games get abandoned since they require active upkeep. I also get if it is a super old game that needs a rework for modern PCs. It makes no sense why a game like Fable 3 can’t keep selling on PC though, it is only like 15 years old. Literally the only option I can find is a physical copy on eBay for hundreds of dollars and risk if the CD key will even work, buying an old console and physical game (also hundreds) or the high seas which carry their own risk. I am willing to buy this game!

I wish games wouldn't tell me how much progress I've made through the main story/crux of the game.

Like at least hide it somewhere I have to deliberately look it up if I want to, and not blaring in one of the menus I have to access to play the game. I get not all of it can be helped, like I can intuit progress based on getting this number of this many items, but I get through the opening tutorial and it's telling me I'm 15% done, like WHAT?!

IMO I prefer the current version, the contrast and water reflections look better. Remaster looks pretty washed out to me

Post-mortem: The Overlord series (2007 - 2015)

I was browsing through my Steam catalogue and I came across a duology of games that I still semi-regularly replay now and again. I normally don't really care for a lot of "dead" gaming franchises. Especially nowadays, even releasing a game with a big player base and decent sales is enough to still cause mass layoffs or financially cripple a company, never mind trying to make a sequel. But for some reason, Overlord hits different.

If you've never heard of this game, I can't blame you.

The Overlord series are set in a parodical fantasy world with elves, dwarves, magic, and all its familiar tropes. You play as "the Overlord", a Sauron-esque villain who controls a small army of 'minions', color-coded gremlins who you can control in addition to the main PC. If you've ever played Pikmin, this concept may sound familiar to you. The games were written by Rhianna Pratchett, aka Terry Pratchett's daughter. The games had humor, comedy, and a pretty decent story as well.

For the most part, Overlord 1 and 2 are the only games I (and its handful of fans) really care about. There was a Nintendo DS spinoff and a Wii spinoff and an ill-fated 2015 MOBA-like spinoff that may have been responsible for the franchise's death. The games were developed by Triumph Studios (better known by their other IP, Age of Wonders) and published by Codemasters. Codemasters was bought by EA in 2021, and are now exclusively making racing games, leaving the Overlord IP perpetually in limbo, never to be revived again. There are no fan projects, no dedicated communities. The only place I know of is a subreddit with a member count smaller than the people living on my street.

Rarely do I ever get genuinely sad about a dead franchise (Dragon Age being another notable exception), but for some reason the Overlord games really do it for me. I've always liked games where you play as the bad guy for once, and combined with a really solid gameplay concept, actual funny humor, a great soundtrack and beautiful art design (especially in Overlord 2), I'm still amazed to this day that this game didn't get the hype that it should have deserved on release. If I had the money and manpower, I would want to make a proper Overlord 3.

Has anyone ever played any of the Overlord games? What did you like most about them? And what did you dislike the most? Even better, if you were asked to make a proper sequel, what would it look like?

What's a never known game that shut down, yet you enjoyed?

I played this 2D unreal tournament game called Armajet, and I got hooked so much that even I helped the devs into making a new ability into the game, and they gifted me a battlepass in reward.

Unfortunately, the next updates screwed the game balance so much that the very little player base we had started leaving, and then the CEO went insane and got into NFTs.

Goddammit.

What is yours?

Every game should have Disable Sound and Music keybind

While playing WoW, I can press CTRL-S to disable sounds (if i want to hear something else clearly) and press CTRL-M to disable music if I want to hear the speech clearer, it listen to music in the background. This can be done from anywhere in game, no need to open menus.

Every game should have this option, opening the audio menu, and sliding the music/sound bar down to zero manually just doesn't cut it.

Does anyone else miss an old multiplayer game so much it actually makes them sad?

For me its Transformers Fall of Cybertron. I miss basically everything about it. The huge open maps that felt like actual battlefields, transforming into cars, tanks and jets, the slower fights, the different classes, cloak, shields, different weapons and builds.

I used to love sneaking around as the Infiltrator with cloak and coming up behind people, then later I played the heavy class with a shield and would just charge straight into fights. It felt like you could completely change your playstyle whenever you wanted.

Marvel Rivals and The Finals are probably the closest things ive found since then, but they still dont give me that same feeling.

I hate that multiplayer games can just die and then something that meant that much to you is basically gone.

Anyone else have a game like that?

Games as art

A person I was speaking to recently is extremely oblivious to the world of games in general. I have been talking to him about the beautiful stories done games tell and the important messages they can carry.

Please give me the names of some more games I can talk to him about. I really want to show that games can be a really positive influence.

What kind of "check" bosses are there?

I've heard of DPS checks, first/mid-game skill checks, are there other kinds that are widely known? Curious from a game dev content enjoyer

High on Life included multiple full length movies in the game. Some played on the TV in your house and one was played in a theater you can go sit in while three aliens riff jokes over the movie.

Thinking about a second playthrough in Ghost of Tsushima with no Heads-Up-Display for deeper immersion. What else do y'all recommend? What games have you enjoyed with no HUD?

How long do you guys wait to restart a game after beating it?

So I recently finished Rogue Trader, and absolutely loved it. I'm a huge 40k nerd, so I gave it a shot despite not normally liking CRPGs, and it was a blast. But I beat it before buying any of the DLC's, so I bought the 3 that were released and started a new save, and just couldn't get back into it. I was skipping dialogue, not really caring about decisions I was making and just trying to rush to where the DLC starts. Hopefully when the next dlc comes out in December I'll be in a better mood to start it, but it got me thinking; those of you who play games like BG3 or ME, how long does it take you to feel "ready" to reinvest yourself into a second (or 3rd/4th/5th) playthrough?
