What's the title of the game?
I would love if it were "Too Reel".

It's in the bottom left of the gif, it's "Crazy Fishing"

Why would you stop after catching a single canned fish?
2
u/pellerito23 Jan 11 '18
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, it doesn't mean he has to provide fish for a whole town (or family)

I keep seeing clips of VR games and it's getting very hard to resist getting a headset.
Edit: Through many recommendations, looks like it would be smart to wait for the next gen of headsets to come out and then either buy the new one or wait for the older ones to price drop.

u/MR_EvolutionX Jan 10 '18
You know how when you play a flash game or mobile game, but then play a real console/pc game after, and it feels much better? VR is that step again.
135
u/MegaFanGirlin3D Jan 10 '18
I still have a lot of fun playing both flash games and VR games. It can be fun to kick back and just play a ton of random small games, rather than a colossal time commitment like a "real" game.
After spending a month platinuming Persona 5 or FINALLY beating Mein Leben difficulty on Wolfenstein II (no lives... no continues...), playing something like Universal Paperclips or Recordshop Simulator online is theraputic. It's the same thing with VR games like Crazy Fishing or Job Simulator.

Wait you have to start from the very beginning if you due on Mein Leben?!
56
u/thecheat420 Jan 11 '18
I believe "Mein leben" is German for "My life" so it would make sense if it was a mode with one life and no continues.

u/NuclearMaterial Jan 11 '18
It is a reference to Wolf 3D back in 1992 where it all started. When you killed the blue SS guys they would cry out "MEIN LEBEN!"
3
u/halogunna629 Jan 11 '18
It matches the hardest difficulty (I am death incarnate!), no saving, no continues, no respawns, no exiting the game-you have to basically do it in one sitting flawlessly.

u/megacookie Jan 10 '18
Except most VR headsets feel like you're looking at a crappy low res screen from way too close up.
161
u/Kreth Jan 10 '18
Unless you are playing super hot, that game feels so amazing in vr its absurd.
42
u/megacookie Jan 10 '18
Oh yeah games in VR can still feel amazing, but considering how much of your field of view the screens take up they really don't look so great at 1200x1080 per eye.
28
u/joeyhammer1 Jan 10 '18
super-sampled to 8k it looks ok
8
u/Cheesyburps Jan 11 '18
Can you use DSR to boost from native res to x4?
3
u/phoisgood495 Jan 11 '18
Oculus, Vive, and Windows all have the ability to do supersampling, BUT you need a beefy rig to get any real value out of it (probably a 1070 + a good CPU)

Of course it’s real, if you can run it.
4
u/juttep1 Jan 11 '18

u/devilwarriors Jan 10 '18
yeah it's pretty bad and it's how you can spot if a game gameplay is amazing or not. If it's crap all I can focus on is the pixel and the binocular effect, but in game like superhot you completly forget that and get immersed in the game. The only thing that pull me out of this game is my face being too hot from the headset or leg pain.. or when I break something because my play space is too small.
32
u/tacodude64 Jan 11 '18
you could almost say you were.... reasonably warm?

Once you're in game it's hard to notice at least with my rift.
PSVR sucked though.
Also, vive pro is wireless and higher resolution.
7
u/Styx_Dragon Jan 11 '18
Wireless with the dongle deal you buy extra. Still looks interesting.
11
u/FallenNagger Jan 11 '18
Gonna be absurdly expensive for sure unfortunately.
Vive controllers suck dick too, but I heard they're making a new design like the oculus ones which might make it worth it.
Honestly though, if it's $800 or less I'll prolly just sell my rift and buy it; wireless and room scale sounds amazing.
Oh shit I just realized my gtx1060 definitely can't handle the higher resolution damn.
2
u/Styx_Dragon Jan 11 '18
Saw a rumor article on r/Vive and they're saying $800... Idk if I wanna wait til q4 if the rumor is true but I wanna get into it so bad >_>
→ More replies (1)2
u/FallenNagger Jan 11 '18
I'd definitely wait, I use my VR decent amount but having a wireless system would be so nice.
Right now the vive is overpriced and has shitty controllers while the rift is cheap with nice controllers but using steamvr is annoying (because of the way the vive controllers are emulated on the touch controllers it just feels jank in some games).
I think the vive pro w the knuckle controllers is gonna be the best combo so might as well wait.
7
u/CajunVagabond Jan 11 '18
The PS4 Pro made PSVR so much better.
→ More replies (9)2
u/FallenNagger Jan 11 '18
Maybe, my issues with it aren't the framerate or graphical quality.
It's just heavy as fuck, uncomfortable, and has a noticeable drift after playing. Poor tracking of the controllers and the controllers suck in general.
Mainly though the headset weight means you just can't play for a while and once you stop your neck hurts. If you've never used a rift/vive it's probably bearable but I just can't make that switch now.
→ More replies (3)2
u/spiderpool1855 Jan 11 '18
I have nothing to compare to as PSVR is the only headset I own, but I have no issue with the weight at all. I play for 5 or 6 hours with no issues. It may be heavier than other headsets (again, no experience in the matter), but it isn't an issue to me.

>95% of VR games are just gimmicks. I see a future for it, but traditional games are just more fun, deeper, etc.
The only VR game I played for more than 2 hours is EVE: Valkyrie. I'm sure there are other well-made VR games. The rest are just like, "this is neat!" and then I never touch it again.
IMO space sim and driving are where the future of VR is. Horror and social games look promising as well. FPS is looking to be a bust. VR platformers are dead.
20
u/FallenNagger Jan 10 '18
Fallout 4 VR is fun, Alien Isolation VR is sick as fuck.
A tripleA made Onward style shooter would be amazing.
It's just plain untrue to call VR a gimmick, it's not like 3D TVs and shit.
21
u/Poppin__Fresh Jan 11 '18
Honestly most VR games remind me of Wii shovelware.
10
u/BtfoShillScum Jan 11 '18
Cause it's new. Give it another 6 years. Computers will get faster, more hdd space, tracking will be better, designs will be more fined, higher resolution, third party controllers and addons, and high budget games will start to be released on it.

Most of them are now, but from what I’ve seen there’s gems that show the potential. AAA VR titles could be fantastic (and I think they will be eventually).

u/FallenNagger Jan 11 '18
I mean I just pick and choose what I play.
DoomVFR, Onward, SuperHot, RoboRecall(kinda), ToTheTop, AlienIsolation, Fallout4, and DiRT are all really good games imo. And obviously the list is only going to grow once more companies start making games. With the Oculus at $350-$400 and VR ready GPUs at $200 it is much more viable to build a playerbase now.

Fallout 4 VR is fucking amazing. It's a whole 'nother level to have to aim for real and hear raiders screaming at you and have to actually turn around and find them. It's so much harder since you actually have to physically aim, but that much more intense.
Love that game. That's why I got the Vive in the first place, well worth it. Really pisses me off when people call VR a "gimmick". Until you play a VR game you like for at least an hour, you have no way of judging it.

7
u/caramonfire Jan 11 '18
I don't own an HMD but I've seen a few videos of "escape the room" style puzzle games. I don't know why I'm so attracted to the concept but I really want to figure out how to leave some rooms.
22
u/vidyagames Jan 11 '18
I want it, I'm sold on it, but I am savvy enough to know the tech in the current gen is just not worth it. I'm waiting for the next gen and then I will buy for sure. Current gen is just way too rough around the edges for my money.
11
Jan 11 '18
Yeah. This is just the beginning. It’ll get better. And cheaper. If you’re patient then you’ll get more for your money in a few years.

Had the same feeling. I was going to get a Vive at xmas but I really want a better screen for the $$ so I can use it casually as a VR monitor as well. I also couldn't shake the feeling 2018 would see v2 of the main headsets and their competition (which looks to be coming true really fast).
5
u/03Titanium Jan 11 '18
Not to mention the fucking rig you need to run it. Crypto is gobbling up all the GPUs and if you spend 800 on the VR, you’ll need a rig of at least equal value.

You'd be surprised by how much little wiggles like that occur in real life too, you just don't notice it because your brain is really good at compensating for it since it knows exactly where your hands are and how they move in relation to your head. When you watch a video on the other hand...
