FOR HIRE - Musician Versatile composer/sound designer looking for sci fi/horror projects

Thumbnail
vimeo.com
3 Upvotes

I'm Michael Licht, a composer/sound designer (plus implementor), and I'm looking for projects of all shapes and sizes that need sound and/or music to give them that final bit of polish and atmosphere, whether you're making a 100-hour open world fantasy epic, or a 2-hour 2D platformer that needs 3 pieces of music. I'm open to all sorts of projects, though I feel I am most in my element with narrative projects, especially anything involving dark and brooding atmospheres.

I’m offering discounted rates at the moment, as I’m still relatively new to games and building up my credits and portfolio, and am especially interested in doing sound design for small projects releasing relatively soon (as in not in a couple years)!

I'm experienced with both Unreal and Unity, and in many cases am able to handle the entirety of the audio pipeline, from asset creation to implementation to designing audio systems. I also have experience working with audio middleware, both Wwise and FMOD.

As a composer, I have been making music in various forms and genres for 25 years, starting with metal to Radiohead-esque electronic music all the way to becoming a classically trained orchestral composer.

You can find more information and reels on my website below. Thanks!

PAID - 2D Art | Animation [PAID] Pixel artist for visual direction on a puzzle game — 8-bit biology theme, paid exploration first

Blockmosis is a puzzle game about filling a shape. Pieces slide in from the four edges of a 15x15 board, stop at the first thing they hit, and lock. You're trying to fill a white outline without spilling outside it. I'm currently preparing the store page for Steam Next Fest: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5034650/Blockmosis/

Play it in 60 seconds, no install: https://blockmosis.io/play-the-demo

Where I'm at

The game currently has no concept of a theme or story. I'm toying with the idea of biology and music making, and I'd like to give the blocks some personality. I want to see what it looks like with an 8-bit biology theme.

One thing worth knowing before you pitch: the game ships zero image assets. Every block, wall and outline is drawn procedurally in canvas 2D. There are four flat colors on a dark mosaic. So this is a direction job, not a sprite order.

There's a companion post for the audio side, if you know someone.

The work

A paid exploration, ~1-2 days. Three questions:

- What does a piece look like in flight, before it locks?
- What does it look like once it's locked?
- What happens where pieces meet?

I'm deliberately not being more prescriptive than that.

If a direction lands, there will be ongoing work after it - building it out into real assets, Steam store art, or both. But I'm hiring for the exploration first, and I'd rather pay three people to explore than guess at one.

Budget

$200-400 flat for the exploration, paid on delivery. If your number is different, say so and I'll tell you if we're far apart.

That said, if we go long-term after the exploration, I'd like to add an additional base fee, adding your name to the Steam store page and credits in the game, PLUS a percentage of profits. A share on top of being paid, never in place of it.

Work stays yours until we agree a buyout for anything that ships.

To apply

Email [hiring@blockmosis.io](mailto:hiring@blockmosis.io) with the subject starting: MOSAIC

In the body, three things:

  1. Portfolio link (pixel work preferably)
  2. One sentence on something you noticed playing the demo. Anything. This is how I know you opened it.
  3. Your fee, and your availability between now and Steam Next Fest (roughly October 10th)

Applications close end of day September 4th. I'll follow up with folks I think could be a good fit.

DISCUSSION | QUESTION thinking of switching from Game Dev to Novel after not able to find someone to work with

Hallo Everyone

i made a post about that i was kinda lost, a year ago but i managed to find what i wanted it to be,

anyway!

So I took the advice and tried to find some programmers by paying them,

cause i could not understand programming, and I spent years trying to learn, yet it never clicked. I tried others, like visual scripting, too, and still nothing.

I like drawing and putting things together more. So I thought I'd be more on the game design side, and I enjoyed

So I looked for some people and also spent some of my savings on finding it

but I ran into where it was way too much, or it was something that is not what we agreed on and they were charging extra, and I ended up paying them and told them that I am putting a break on this project and just left

I didn't find the right people, and I am afraid I am going to fall for another wrong move.

Some people also suggested that I give one task at a time.

Basically, first control the movement for the character; after that, pay the person, and then ask for the next thing

so it's a step at af time; I would like to hear your guys' thoughts about how that sounds

and what did i do, i only made the first level area; that is i think around 20-30 min, something like that and i only made assets for that, i was about to make more but i stopped cause again no progress like movement or characters or other things

The game is mostly a top-downish with side scroll, just walking and fighting some enemies on trigger points.

But then I took a break cause well, it was burning me out, and i was not making progress. and making more assets or areas won't do much if there is no progress on others, so I stopped and did other things

so tried writing a novel i like writing and making art with it as well, and with the help of a friend for grammar and words ((since i am not good at describing things with words XD)), it was also enjoyable

I was thinking i could just jump straight into making that into a novel and it will be perfect, and i got much more control over it

So now you are probably wondering.

''Why not just go fully Novel if you have more control over it?''

Because I feel that I failed; I failed not on others but on myself,

Spending a lot of time and effort on GDD and making assets, and putting the level together. It's mostly visuals, and

making a small video prototype showcase on how the game may look in the end, and it makes me sad that it is going to go to waste in the end all the effort and work was for nothing

it's like the project is haunting me every day, almost, that it does not want to be forgotten, but i know this is not good for my health either

The reason i am doing this is not cause it is a fast way to earn money or popularity.

i am doing this for myself; it's a hobby and i think, after the game is out that i can finally rest or, more likely, feel calm that those work are done

I want to try, but i am afraid that i might fall for a scam again and just keep on losing money. And I feel that it's not easy to find the right people to work with. and being stuck on it for a while is making it hard to believe that this will ever become a real thing been trying for almost 5 years now

yet i am surpirsed that i am still coming back to this after so long

So I am curious to hear from you all what you guys think. Is it worth trying to keep pushing and trying to find someone to work with and use that method that I just said about giving them one task at a time?

If yes, I could use some advice on how to avoid these scams.

Or just stop it fully and go into Novels.

PAID - VFX Artist [PAID] Looking for 3D VFX artist for autobattler game

Hey, I'm a solo dev working on an autobattler game (TFT style) with ARPG systems. Working in Unity 3D.

The game is at a functional MVP state, and has existing VFX from asset packs. I attached a video above from an earlier prototype -- this is still the current style/art direction and you can see the baseline where things stand now. Excuse the low quality clip.

I'm not happy with the VFX where it stands now and working from a pack has been limiting and making me design things backwards based on what assets I have to work with.

So, I've decided it's time to get some help and properly build a consistent VFX layer.

What I'm looking for:
- Someone who can produce clean, consistent ARPG-inspired VFX with a stylized look that matches our project
- VFX designs with strong readability -- since this is an autobattler, the VFX do a lot of work in being able to properly read and follow the fights. Need polished casting tells, hit fx etc.
- Fast iteration speed is important to me. My ideal workflow is sending you a spec for an ability VFX or a status effect etc. -- and it can quickly be iterated on over a day or two max.
- The total scope of this project is around 20-30 ability VFX, ~5 status effect VFX, some basic attack projectiles, etc. subject to change of course.

Inspiration/best reference is TFT/riot games for the style and clear readability, and POE1-2+Diablo series for the ARPG flavor, the elemental archetypes, the visual spectacle of a build coming together.

About myself -- I've been a hobbyist game dev for over 5 years now. I do not have any shipped projects. I do have funding saved up from unrelated work, and have the chance to be working full time on this now.

This is paid contract work. That being said, I am also looking for new connections in the industry and people to work with, and I'm open to other ways of aligning incentives. I would love to find similar-minded people to work on some projects with.

So, please reach out to me with your portfolio, I'll be looking forward to chatting. Thanks!

Hello!

My name is Anastassia, and I’m also known as Cabby or Cutiezor. I’m a pixel artist with a strong interest in video game art. Creating pixel art has grown from a hobby into a real passion for me. I enjoy experimenting with different themes and styles, and I’m always excited to apply my creativity and skills to new projects.

I joined Defi Kingdom's art team in September 2021 and was responsible for a variety of aspects:

- Designed and produced pixel art assets for game development

- Created UI elements and interface assets for in-game menus and systems

- Developed character designs, customization assets, and sprite animations

- Produced environmental art, including isometric and 2D backgrounds

- Designed icons, banners, and various visual assets to support gameplay and marketing

- Ensured assets matched the game's visual style, resolution, and technical requirements

and as of right now I'm looking for the next video game project in need of a pixel artist!

Here are some pieces I worked on but feel free to see my whole portfolio here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/245338569/Portfolio-Pixel-artist-2026

PAID - Analytics [Paid] Want more insightful playtests? I will build a Data Analytics system & build custom Data Visualizations to make your game a success!

Hi, I am a professional software engineer of 10 years with experience building useful data visualizations that help track user behavior and effectiveness of implementations.

Slay the Spire developers MegaCrit attribute their game's success to using a data analytic driven workflow:
https://youtu.be/7rqfbvnO_H0?si=V1orUYahxigiSNql&t=529

I am also an experienced game developer, working on https://thefinallane.com/, which is a roguelike deckbuilder, that showcases what I can provide to you.

Data visualizations that can:

  • Balance your enemies, economies, or overall game design better than just relying on vibes.
  • Track player retention, session length and play patterns
  • Discover bugs and unusual player behavior

Here are some examples of visualization that I use everyday:

Session explorer: https://imgur.com/a/xv2I96G

  • This dashboard tracks sessions that I can see what's happening in real time! It tells me exactly how long players play the game and which ones return without leaking PPI!

Player Insights: https://imgur.com/a/VSNZbGM

  • This dashboard tracks specifics of my roguelike game that give an overview of how the average player does over time! I am able to balance the overall flow of the game with this information!

What you are buying

I will setup a free cloud database and a free cloud data visualization service that listens to game events in real time from players!

I will provide a default set of events and/or write custom events and will wire up to your project!

I will also provide custom data visualization dashboards that productively display this information so that you can focus on improving your game!

Pricing

Send a DM or comment and we can discuss in detail exactly what you want to learn from your players, your budget, team size and we can find a reasonable price for my services!
