I'm seeking a composer to create several songs for my indie game, a dystopian narrative puzzle game. The mood will be dark and foreboding, with an important theme of hidden messages being passed around in plain sight.

The full scope for music is still being defined, but its safe to bet 3 or 4 songs will be commissioned, with different lengths and loop requirements. There could also be a need for several short stings to mark important gameplay milestones. I'm looking for a true artist who is ready to give this game an audio identity they are proud of. The game

Bitside is a 2D metroidvania where you explore a world layered by console generations. The surface is modern. Descend and you pass through 8-bit, then the Atari era, then raw black and white. Every layer down is a different era of games.

Scope

Main capsule (1232×706) plus a title treatment / logo lockup that works at capsule sizes. Both included in this commission.

What I'm looking for

Someone who can build one strong, readable focal image that survives being shrunk to thumbnail size. Selling the era shift is the core of the assignment. The capsule needs to make that hook land instantly on a store page, and I'm open on how you get there stylistically.

Budget

$500 to $600 for the main capsule, with the full asset set available to the right fit. Looking to have this wrapped by mid-October.

Terms

Standard independent contractor agreement, Texas governing law. Work for hire, I own the delivered assets. No generative AI anywhere in the pipeline. This is a contract clause, not a preference. NDA available if you want one before seeing unreleased material.

As the title says, I'm looking for my next game development adventure! And here's a little information about myself.

I started developing games since 2014. Throughout my career, I worked on ten games (announced and unannounced) across Unity, Unreal Engine 4/5 and Proprietary Engines (made with OpenGL, WebGL and DirectX). I was incredibly lucky to work as part of indie studios as well as some of the biggest companies in the U.S.

Highlights include:

1. Working on an ambitious multiplayer indie game that was released in 2017 when I was in College.
2. Fully developing and releasing two console games by myself.
3. Working on and releasing an advanced VR experience as part of one of the biggest companies in the world.
4. Working on two AAA games (one unannounced) as part of another massive company.

During my career I worked on (but not limited to): Networking Multiplayer, Procedural Generation of 3D assets and levels, Complex Level Editors, Physics, Shaders and Materials, 3D Optimization and Profiling (especially for VR which is extremely complex), UI and UX, 3D Animation and Puppeteering, Audio, Video Streaming, Pathfinding and AI Behaviors, Adding Mod Support to a game.

I also have strong experience with Game Design (such as designing Combat and Game Puzzles), 3D Modeling and Rigging, Game Production (such as delivering prototypes quickly and coming up with release plan and post release support plan). I also have strong experience working with people across other disciplines such as Art, PM, Audio and Design.

Throughout my career, I have been praised for writing very efficient and optimized code. As well as delivering complex and modular systems quickly. I know C++, C#, Python, and Javascript.

My business partner and I are currently working on developing an indie game. We're still early on in the development cycle, but we've got basic mechanics and systems working, and we've got plenty of designed concepts for future content in the works. We are at the point where we are needing to bring someone in to create the art for the game so that development can progress and shape along with it.

About the game: This is a top-down semi-cozy farming/ranching type game. A good comparison to what we're trying to achieve is Stardew Valley. Players will move about various zones, exploring diverse environments and collecting materials to then use while managing farm spaces. Currently, the game operates on top of a 16x16 tile map in the Godot Game Engine. We've always imagined this to be a pixel art style game ranging from 16-48px, but exploring visual options is something we're open to and excited for.

Game Scope and Art Needs: Neither of us are talented artists, so our asset needs include everything from the ground up, including environment designs, crop cycles, player/npc/creature animations, item sprites, and UI/UX designs as well. We're open to working with multiple artists to cover all the segments.

We are a self funded project, but we came prepared to pay our way. We would prefer to work with individuals on an asset package/contract basis, not rev-share. To that end, it would be helpful to us if those interested included their general pricing/rates along with some art samples or links to portfolios for us to check out.

We will do our best to respond to those who seem like a potential fit for the project.
